ROTQM10: Raging Over the Quarreling Mountains

In terms of cities I would say that we should raze everything except:

- Choke points. ( can't see any clear one ATM )

- Really good cities. This includes caps, cities with useful wonders for us ( don't see much of them either ) and stellar cities ( can't see much of them either )

This because we can't keep them until we have a solid grip on maintenance ( that we don't ATM ) and because the AI LOVES to ressttle spots and that is actually good for us, because it allows us to munch them piecemeal :D

I agree with mysty on the spies as security network. I had already started to do that in my set , but spies die fast :/ I also agree with him techwise.

Spies shouldn't get caught much if they don't stop in a city. Plus they are rebuilt very quickly. What I meant to point out, we only have 3 spies and 2 of these aren't fulfilling their purpose at all. I wanted to stress why we need them and put them to better use.

I'm not sure I understand you on razing/keeping cities, rolo. I would put it that way: keep cities if a) they have at least one food source or b) some useful wonder. I don't see many other criteria. Not sold on choke points. By the time we cleaned out the portugese (:D) and vikings we'll have a very advanced army with cannons vs. medieval units so our front should be moving pretty quickly and with advanced siege counterattacking wins vs. waiting for the AI to suicide so we probably won't do much choking. Not on that map script anyway.

On this point , where we are struggling at 20% even with our army inside our borders, ANY city that is not very good NOW is a luxury we can't afford. I'm not so sold on choke points either, besides the one we already have. To be honest we could even go to raze them all and get money from land pillage vsince IMHO we can with with the cities we have in hand, but I don't want to go to extremes :D

WOW - we are very different in terms on cities. My opinion is to keep most of them unless you can shown why the cities sucks. I saw the argument for Braga, and I agreed with that one.

Those AI food happy capitols are far to good IMO to give up.

At this point I don't think science will be the issue, as much as production. We need more cities.

Well, more prod is good, but it will ammount to nothing if we can't pay our troops ;) ( and prod-> wealth makes me :cringe: without heavy prod multipliers ). And anyway more prod is only really important if you are expecting to lose a lot of units, otherwise it is not that important ... I already played enough OCC-AW to know that you can go very far with only 20 worked tiles :p

Not that we will not win by keeping cities ... I'm just worried with the ability of keeping our empire afloat ,and before FP and/or SP, that ability is quite limited.

I'd say if a city doesn't fulfill either of those requirements it's doomed and there's no point in keeping it anyway.

c) A resource we don't have

Nice game. You inspired me to play am AW game yesterday myself :) . But pholkherina could have written a PM before starting this :spank:

Yeah, and just slightly late ;) I mean we just started about a week ago or so, right? :p

Well, if you guys start up another game - count me in! Haven't played a SG in ages. To be exact, the abandoned last DMI game was my last SG...

In another news I've started modding Civ IV. Made a mod for my own pleasure, though the wonders in it are slightly overpowered ;D ...

I'd like to be skipped. Sorry for the late notice, I hoped I'd get some time to play but I got more and more swamped in work over the weekend :(

i set research to lit for now, and started up the smashy-smashy. after lit came in, and went 100% money to help w/upgrades to canon...which is fortuitous as you'll see later ;)

1706: Braga

1716: lisbon

1724: lagos and nidaros

1730: my last turn, and faro fell:

Here's the military situation. We've got our Portugese army up by faro, with our knights starting some recon up there. you can see them on the pic above.

here's teh viking front:
Civ4ScreenShot0016-2.jpg

the army in nidaros just had their trebs upgraded as we lost a few in the sacking of the city. also notice the army in red down there ~ that's for defense once we get to the arrows there and our army can go back and take out more viking cities. also, there's a few obsolete units i have fortified at nidaros to stay and act as defense for now. as you can see, too, there's a small greek force in the fortress there. I bypassed it for now, thinking it was worth the risk.

Here's the small force that took polynesian, heading north more.
Civ4ScreenShot0020-2.jpg

It's two knights, and two canons. there's another knight on its way up there.

and here's an obsolete army coming from the west:

so, all in all, a fair set. research is set at banking for money problems, but maybe we should keep it at 0% to upgrade our other seige. also, nidaros might be agood spot for the Forbidden.

pholkhero >> just played
ozbenno >> up now
LKendter >> on deck
rolo
pigswill
mystyfly

I'll have a spot in that as well please. Funny games indeed, but can we find GreyFox
figgered you would :D as i think i've said before....the last time fox left, he had to go on maneuvers with the army...i just hope he's alive really

WOW - that really broke open. Getting the AI stuck on the single Mongol city really helped us.

I definitely love the damage to Portugal and the Vikings this set. The Inca is the strongest left, but getting rid of these other civs still pays big time. The sheer volume to fight and size of the front are both going the right direction.

Can we please whip another culture building in Smolensk? At some point we really will need that incense.

We should settle on Libson or Nidaros for national epic. We really could use a GP farm. Maybe the other city could be the globe city. A good military whipping / drafting center would also help a lot.

what's more, we really didn't have much action down there. Alex caused more trouble simply because he was able to access our interior cities. Once we take out our 2nd Viking objective (i forget the name), we *should* have free rein to clean up the eastern part of the map.

Lisbon looks great for a GPfarm, i think.

I also think Nidaros might be good for the Forbidden as well, due to its central location.
