RSG03 (Deity) - Random Attempt at Redemption

t77: Founded Catholicism (Tithe + Pagodas).

t78: Found Old Faithful in the northern borders of Tyre. 1 NW left.
Library -> Granary at Grenoble.
Horses are done. Sell them for GPT to Pacha and Ramses.

t79: Buy the deer tile, Sur Sinai works it for now (until Grenoble finished its Granary).

IBT: Ramses built the Oracle
DoF with Venice

t80: Mathematics discovered. I think we should still go Currency -> CS
Spoiler :

We also have enough culture to take another SP. Since we currently only have 2 happiness it is a close call between Monarchy and Aristocracy. Monarchy is the safer option.

Empire Overview.

Decisions
- Monarchy or Aristocracy first?
- Research? (I prefer Currency -> HBR -> CS)
- Do we want to buy more tiles? (Sur Sinai’s sheep and another hill at the Cap make sense)
- Settler after the worker at Sur Sinai?
- We could toss in Sailing so that Grenoble can get a Caravan after its Granary.
- We could reassign citizens at the capital to work more hammers by stealing the hill from Sur Sinai. Growth is very important too.

Tyre is just taunting us with that worker, isn't it :scan: but we need their :c5happy: juice more than their worker.

Caravan back to capital was a good idea, I didn't fully realize we had a second granary for that.

We look good, if a bit poor. I would save the cash we make now for upgrades.

Happiness will look a lot better in ~15 turns when we finish Trad, get back a domestic incense and buy a pagoda all in rapid succession. This also coïncides with the growth push from CS. We're a bit short on good tiles to work until then so I'm of a mind to go Aristo, pray for Tyre to come back to us, get a faster NC and fix happiness a smidge later. A circus or colosseum would do nicely as well.

"Chop for the NC, for god's sake!" [/William Forrester voice] [/jovial remark] ;) :)

Link to video.

Sailing > Currency > HBR > CS for sure. I think I do that 95% of games. The 2nd trade route will give us invaluable beakers.

Monarchy vs. Aristocracy is prob a close call. Hard to say how much 10 turns of unhappiness would set us back. I've lived through such times. If we go for Aristocracy we have an earlier NC but it means our 4th city will hurt more.

I vote for another Worker before a Settler in Sinai.

I don't think we can afford to buy tiles.

Capital should work all the hammers as long as its <10 turns between pops.

I'm ready to go when ST is done, but "decked" means something different to a British English speaker ;)

Not complete:

T80 Picked Monarchy. Happiness up from +2 to +6 and some pocket change added. I rarely go Aristocracy before Monarchy anyway, so if it ends a botch job, it's on me. Traded worked tiles around to boost growth in Sinai and production of NC in Nil. Picked Currency because it might be a while before a second caravan gets its turn. Shout if needed.

However, I am always North Korea in my games, so I refuse

T84 Currency done. Horseback Riding next. Probably Markets up in all cities

T85 Worker done in Sinai. Gonna chop a Market then start on roads, Sinai is big enough to net a profit.

And now some good luck

Now, where have we seen that before?? Ah yes

I suppose this was a mistake because we need the money, so, sorry about it.

Images are not working, Sir Stormtrooper :(

Why not just attach them? It's much easier than uploading to TinyPic or whatever.

Wasn't it something with the code last time?

They all work for me, I've uploaded them to my dropbox... Oh well, give me a sec to readjust. It will have to be split though

Rest of the current update:

T86 Hey look what I found!

Grenoble finished Granary and Pasture is up. Queued a spear, which should finish just before we get Pikes.

Something to keep an eye out:

T87 Barb camp spawned in the area I lost sights on. Archers should mobilize and clean it up for influence. We got a unit from Budapest, but I didn't capture the event quickly enough

This game is moving quickly. I get distracted and watch some world cup and we are 20 turns further along.

Once we get NC our science will be strong.
Markets and another caravan will help our economy.
Diplomacy is keeping the peace, but if London falls to Shaka, we will have two 800 lb gorillas.

After all that we need to think about military and a strategic road network.

I don't think I'm up yet. There is no save and I think ST has 3 more turns to play

Yeah I'm not finished yet. Hopefully this evening or tomorrow afternoon, sorry about the delay

in the meantime, you can hit up suggestions. I say we use the second caravan to feed back to the cap as well and then start working on the 4th city, somewhere in the neighborhood of Sinai, possibly NE of the sheep near the barb camp in my last screenie. I also suggest we denounce England randomly because that would make Ashur and Shaka like us better. I wouldn't bother roading up the north expo as it's still small and wouldn't yield net positive. Then, have Zulus and Assyria go to war with Egypt and Incas if we can afford it

I probably would have swapped our Gold with the Silks, but buying them is not the end of the world. We can consider selling our Gold for 7 GPT for only a small loss. If happiness is manageable for the next 20 turns or so then I'd sell it.

I think it's good (but weird) to stop fog-busting in Civ 5 to allow for those barb spawns. The main reason I kept some vision there was to block any AI settlers heading that way.

I will usually let barbs spawn until I have barracks, then I will suppress them with a worthless unit like an untrained warrior.

For the fourth city I like the spot southeast or east of the second wheat near Sinai.

T87 The gifted unit is a most useless one, so I delete it to save on maintenance

and here's the save

I have moderate concern of how the neighborhood activities are shaping up. If either Shaka or Ashur get cranked and attack, it's game over most likely. I have to wonder how will they get influenced culturally because they're QUITE likely to become hostile at one point, will not want OB, will have a different ideology and will be embargoed.

On the plus side, NC is almost done, happy is good, our economy will go up once roads and Markets are up and we should consider working Guilds soon. Grenoble stagnating during its Granary/Library may have been a mistake and should have been chopped but oh well

I don't like the deletion of the Catapult. Having a modicum of military dissuasion would have been useful, IMHO and it's not useless if we later upgrade it to a Artillery piece. When I play peaceful Tradition I always keep all gifted units and build several of my own. We all know that you can win a peaceful game around T280-300, but you can't win at all if you're dead.

I say we court the friendships of both Ash and Shaka and go with whoever likes us the most, and use them to kill one or two of the culture enemies. Also, I suggest we follow their identify as well. We also know that you can win a CV with Freedom, Order or Autocracy.

Anyway, any final thoughts before I start my turns?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we have the weakest military. I can't believe we deleted a catapult. What type of unit would you have preferred? We haven't researched that many military techs so therefore we aren't going to be getting some superstars.
