RSG03 (Deity) - Random Attempt at Redemption

Nice set. I believe I am up next, but I won't be able to play until tomorrow evening, so that gives plenty of time for discussion :)

Some very nice settling options here. Sinai first? Or should we claim ground towards the AIs?

Edit: If you want to keep the pace higher feel free to swap me ;)

And the roster:

Gurra <= Started us out
Olodune <= up
Menelann <= awaiting a check in
Beorn
Stormtrooper
Consentient
Bugs

We'll go with 10 turns from now on. Yes, the first few are boring, but it keeps things moving and is easy to keep track of.

I think we can wait for you to play Olodune. We probably need to discuss a few things.

1. Are we going with Tradition or Liberty? I'm thinking tradition.

2. What do we tech after AH? I'm thinking archery then maybe calendar.

3. I really like settling south along the Nile (very nice touch by the way Gurra). What is our timing for this?

4. A caravan will get our cashflow going. What is our timing for this? So many decisions!

I played out my turns with Tradition in mind since we aren't getting an early monument, which would be more crucial if we go Liberty.

As for the Nile reference, it worked out even better when the Egyptians happened to be settled up north on the same river. We'll have to rename new cities we settle though because the game will want to settle another Paris. :p

I was thinking perhaps we could go Settler straight after the Worker is done, like Beorn suggested earlier. What do you think?

For settling locations there are two obviously good ones right now: the one on the river by Mt Sinai with the Wheat, and the one south of the Incan capital. The latter might very well anger the Incans since it's so close to their capital but it is an extraordinary location with Wheat, Salt and an Oasis.

Archery => Calendar sounds good to me tech-wise.

In hindsight, settling in place may not have been the best idea, just a tick south would be more viable. Oh well.

I see several decent expo locations, between two Incan cities, to the east of the cap, to the east of Egypt expo and perhaps directly south of the Incan cap. I don't really like the area around Sinai, only a handful of food tiles there. But oh well, let's see what Olodune will cook up

My stab at a dotmap:

I like the city south of Cusco very much (red), but pink might be safer for similar benefits. Black would make a good outpost for that time when we need to renegociate the borders with Pachacuti.

As far as Sinaï goes, blue dot would have potential as a coastal city, but teal might be easier to build up very early.

Depending on horses, Yellow and White could be good. There is also a viable coastal city (Purple) where we could grab 2 extra incenses for trading - but without friends, desert incense is useless so all those east and north projects need a bit more exploration before a go-ahead.

I say we lock at 3 pop for a bit and buy/work hills to accelerate worker/settler. As usual, my early game plan suggestion is to make 1-2 cities, lots of archers, upgrade to CBs, and reap Cusco.

Might I suggest (and it's only a suggestion) that we consider the idea that this map blows for peaceful tradition?

There might be some more stuff to the North and East of our capital, but the screenshot is dominated by flat land. CV needs really good production to stand a chance at Sistine etc.

Purple looks OK, but blue will take too long to grow, Red is flat-out suicide against one of the most prickly customers in the game.

North and east definitely need thorough scouting, but my feeling here is that the game plan would be better rethought :)

I'd definitely send the scout up north, and as for diplomacy, I'm all up for taking the Incas out (man, when did I start getting thirsty for blood  )

the RED spot is good for food but has next to no production, so Purple and Yellow seem more balanced. Either way, archers and spears should move up the priority list, the neighborhood is a wee bit tight

Part of the challenge to play what we are dealt.

I agree that red is a great location, but I guarantee we won't be able to defend it.

Strictly from a military position, I like teal dot. It has some very good food tiles. Green dot would have the advantage of being on the same side of the river as Paris-sur-Nil. A river road would make sharing military units very timely. Therefore, I would go with green dot - Le Point Vert

I wouldn't worry about Ramesses, he is probably building a wonder at the moment. Pachacuti may be a threat. Let's get a worker, a settler, and then a bunch of archers.

First priority is scouting the NE parts.

If at any point Egypt wants us to tag team Incas, mobilize and neutralize them.

Got it, and will play in a few hours. It looks like my set will be about finishing up our worker and getting more scouting. Right now I like Pink -> Teal -> Purple settled in that order for peace and Green -> Purple for war footing.

How about Teal -> War -> Red when we catch a break and start the siege of Cusco?

Summary: We find a nasty neighbour, another plays nice.

IT: Swapped new citizen onto the gold hill - we need that production. Since we will be going worker -> settler there is no point in building half a citizen.

Spoiler :

t22: Find a new neighbour. He is not the cuddly type.

Spoiler :

t23: Kill the handaxe, but the warrior hit our archer IBT. Light damage.

Pachucuti sends us a caravan! A DoF offer could follow soon - should we accept?

AH done. Chose Calendar ahead of Archery since there is time.

t25: Tradition opener selected.

Worker done -> move to gold hill to mine

Spend 80 precious gold to buy a second hill. We'll need to buy it anyways and this way cuts down on the settler build time, so now is the best time to invest.

Spoiler :

t28 Barb Warrior killed, new Warrior spawns in the camp

t29 Calendar done, start Archery

t30 Overview

Notes:

- Check out that Egyptian settler up to no good.
- The land between us and Assyria could hold a nice defendable city.
- Our warrior remains unmoved. Either he shoud come south or continue to scout.
- Watch the citizen assignment when the settler is complete. Currently starving.
- We need to think carefully about this next settle. I think I like Sinai, but settling the Assyrian citadel makes sense too.

Save incoming.

I'll be back home Thursday: please skip me until then.

ah, so it's me then if the team doesn't want to wait.

I like the spot on the sheep, that should put us in range of both the lux and the food. Third city should go to the west, but I'd rather swap in some archers before. Unless Egypt get there first

Either way, I'm not liking the neighbourhood so far. We *will* be attacked sooner rather than later.

Go ahead ST, I'm clucking to get involved ;)

Use 3 moves of the warrior to get onto the tile NW of the deer at the edge of the fog, to see what's in that spot. For me, the most likely best spots for expos are where Rameses' scout is right now, and somewhere north of that. It makes a cushy little triangular empire that can more easily defend against aggression from Tabletman. I'm not a fan of anything to the south and think we MUST make the best use of every river tile we can lay our hands on.
