Ruhr Valley wonder

Ruhr Valley

Requires: Industrialization
Cost: 1450 production
"+30% Production in this city, and +1 Production for each Mine and Quarry in this city. Must be build along a River adjacent to a Industrial Zone district with a Factory."

The icon looks a lot like the Zeche Zollverein. I'm a bit sad they called it "Ruhr Valley" instead of calling out its name specifically , especially since it is a world heritage site... but I'm very happy to see the area represented in the game.

I wonder if it's a national wonder, though, much like Oxford University, which is also in the list and has the same build time. Could be coincidence, though, hard to tell.

I think there are no national wonders, but I'm happy to be corrected.
While I am also sad that it is not called Zeche Zollverein, this might be due to the name Zollverein (german custom union), which is a bit weird if someone else that Germany builds it. And 'Zeche' alone is a bit unsatisfying as a wonder.

Same as Oxford University! :p

Also noticed that there's actually the build animation in the video, too. Looks very nifty, looks like a full-fledged wonder.

Oxford is a city (that might be conquerable in some games :D). There have been such cases, like Chichen Itza and Machu Picchu, where you build something with the name of another city.
The german customs union is I bit more attached to Germany for me. But that might be me.

I agree, Ruhr Valley is a strange name, since that's the name of the valley rather than the building or structure itself.

It's analogous to the Silicon Valley and no one has a problem with that.

Err, that's completely not analogous at all.

The Ruhr Valley is named after a specific river named Ruhr. It's a geographical landmark.

The Silicon Valley is not named after any specific geographical place - it is named after the fact that businesses there are related to computers, the building material of which is silicon.

Let's just hope the Silicon Valley gets not represented by the Facebook Headquarters only...

Also, the text "a world wonder has been created" in the top of the screen is sort of a give-away that this is not a natural wonder ... :mischief:

There's been no mention of 'national wonders' in the game, and it'd be odd if a major production booster was a 'national wonder' that anyone could build.
Eh, I was just referring to my previous post where I thought it was a national wonder since it could be a more industrial version of Civ5's Ironworks with a more flavourful name (much like Oxford University or the Hermitage).

But agreed, there's been no indication of national wonders so far and they wouldn't make as much sense as in the past where they differentiated/specialised cities. Unstacking cities and district-terrain interactions do the same job with less abstraction, alleviating the need for specialisation wonders.

I hadn't thought of that. Yeah, another strike in favour of 'unstacking'. I hope they can pull off fun / balance as well.

While it's named after the river, the actual common German name is Ruhrpott where the latter part is a bit of slang and very distinct to the area. Not sure where it actually comes from, but the term is unique and might be the "Silicon" part of the comparison you were looking for. After all, it's just another name for the coal valley.
