This was originally a proposal for a RB event, but now it's going to be a succession game. Here it is:

----

Version: Warlords 2.08
Difficulty: Monarch
Civilization: Carthage
World Size: Standard
Map: Hub, high sea level
Game Speed: Epic
Victory: Conquest, Culture, Space, Time
Extras: No Vassal States

Start image:

Scenario: Beat the Clock! You begin at the centre of the clock, with 6 AI civs at 12 o clock , 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 o clock positions (of the hub map). Throughout the game you must declare war on each of these civs, starting at 12 o clock and progressing clockwise. At 0 AD, the clock starts ticking and the 12 o clock civ's Time Is Up - you must declare war on them. You must declare war with each civ on your first turn after the following years:

12 o clock civ - 0 AD
2 o clock civ - 700 AD
4 o clock civ - 1200 AD
6 o clock civ - 1500 AD
8 o clock civ - 1750 AD
10 o clock civ - 1900 AD

You may never make peace with a civ who's Time Is Up. If a civ who's Time Isn't Up declares war on you, you may not enter their territory. If you happen to have a peace treaty on the date you are due to declare war, you must declare at the next available opportunity. You may not declare war on a civ who still has Time.

----

The start was worldbuildered in by me (you can't start in the middle of a hub any other way :)) but it was quite a while ago and I honestly cannot remember if we have any hidden resources at the capital. The capital is already settled to prevent sneaky players moving away from the ice. The initial build and tech were just suggestions and probably wrong. The civs were chosen so that we will be at war with each civ during a period of time that that civ was historically dominant - simulating the passing of time. This also means that their UUs will likely be dominant too :mischief:. No, I'm not going to say which AI civs there are before we discover them, but you can probably make good guesses. We are Carthage for no-particular-reason, other than Hannibal predates all the leaders on the map and charismatic is quite fun. I will go at the end of the roster. So ... sign up!

I'd like to join, but with a certain reservation.

I'll have to buy Warlords and play a couple of games to get familiar with the changes, but that can be done before the end of this week.

So, if you're OK with that, consider this a sign-up.

Ye gad. I have a very good idea of what your facing...I feel sorry for ye...I suspect Rome, England, America....not sure what the others are. Perhaps Saladin in there somewhere.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Mongols, either.

Japan, anyone? And, of course, some financial power-house civ in 1900...

As for the start, a lighthouse will be our best friend. Should we try Gr. lighthouse + Temple of Artemis to boost our economy with trade routes? The start isn't exactly screaming for cottages.

Welcome Sweetacshon. We'll start when we have 1 or 2 more players. There are a few options with the start. Bronze working and hunting, with building a work boat. Or since we are financial and start with fishing, those lake tiles are 2/0/3 - so we could go and found a religion possibly.

Lighthouse looks excellent to give us three 3/0/3 tiles. Great lighthouse could also be good, and will give us a merchant who, if we plan it right, can lightbulb metal casting to let us build colossus. Hmm, I'm warming to the start already :)

My dateline take on Civs is:

0AD - Rome
700AD - Arabia
1200AD - Mongolia
1500AD - Spain
1750AD - France
1900AD - England

I'm not sure that meshes so well with the average Monarch Epic UU dateline for those Civs, but we'll see how it pans out.

One thing I'd like to set out is the spirit of the game: I think we should aim to declare a war of conquest on the dates mentioned: their time is up, after all. The map may make this impossible, but I'd like to try it. What you guys think, sooooo in particular?

Disclaimer: I'm not a historian; in fact I learn most of my history from wikipedia . So the dates may be wrong or skewed towards my british education as to who was "dominant".

Conquest may in fact be the only way to win. It may be tough to compete in a space race when we've been fighting for 1900 years vs a civ who hasn't needed to lift a sword yet.

'War of conquest' was meant to articulate that we should actually attack with the aim of wiping each civ out in time to take the next one on; as opposed to declaring phony war, teching up, then going on the rampage with superior units.

I'll try. This is my first warlords game ever (let alone succession game). But i've done a few vanillas, so i'm not completely hopeless (i think).
Unless you want an S-name person

Still room for 1 more player if they want to join. Here is the starting save.

So let's work out some builds and techs for Swiss. Coupled with that, we need to work out which tiles to work. The conservative play is build work boat while working plains forest and researching bronze working, then work the clams and the lake tiles while building 2 warriors until size 4. Build and then whip worker, research hunting, wheel, sailing.

^^^ Sounds good. Perhaps masonry after sailing if we're going to pursue the Great Lighthouse.

I'll start this off tonight or tomorrow morning. How many turns should I play?

Re: tiles. What's the yield on unimproved plains deer? 2-1-0? Without a 3 food tile to work in the fat cross, I'll probably go as per sooooo's suggested opening.

Research wise, Bronze then Hunting is surely a given. If no Copper is available then we should reassess tech path at this point, with the addtional knowledge of the land informing our choice.

We should also try to time getting a dominant military tech for each war.
If our first war isn't until 0AD, then we should consider trying to find a source of elephants (and bronze and iron of course) for our first war so we can do the jumbos/catapults thing.

EDIT: we should also try to be in a position to build the forbidden palace in the 12 o'clock position. If we don't move into that civ's land, then there is a good possibility that the last civ that we can attack will and end up being a beast (by taking over that land). And we wouldn't be able to trim that beast until much later in the game.

Looks interesting sooooo.

Yep, most of your cities will be coastal on this map, however building the Great Lighthouse in your capital will be ... ummm, difficult since you can only work 2 hills with that capital.

Hmm, I'm warming to the start already :)
You could only warm to that start, I don't think colder is possible

Yeah some good scouting is necessary. We need to work out who to attack first for starters :). Not sure how many elephants we'll find on our icy hub - may be a little cold for 'em.

Also I forgot stuge can't play till friday, so new roster is:

Swiss Pauli
Sweetacshon
Immaculate
stuge
sooooo

I suggest Swiss Paulis plays 30 turns, then 20 for the first time through the roster and 10-15 from there onwards.
