Sandman's Diplo Fastest Finish

I am also having some difficulty genrating very many two cow starts on Tiny...
I was getting around 1 in 200 tiny maps with 2 cows, so I started looking at Grass Wheat and Floodplain Wheat as well, using the bonus food feature of MapFinder and sorting by Wheat then Cow.

Huh? I admit I am a relative newb to your and Moonsinger's wonderful mapfinder utility, without which these quests for fastest finish games would be much more tedious. So I hope I am not asking a dumb question when I query exactly what you mean. The version of mapfinder I have been running is 5.7 - is there a simple way to duplicate your search pattern?

[I had a streak of 600 iterations without a dual cow being found.]

The option I'm using is the "Minimum # Food Bonus" at the bottom of the "Resource" tab. This currently returns lots of other types as well as Cows/Wheat, but the sorting feature in the html report can be used as a further form of filtering.

I am also new to the MapFinder crowd but I have added in on the extras tab to save any maps that have greater than 2 cows. I was watching MapFinder run and saw it pass on a 4 cow start because there was no fresh water (somthing I turn on).

Also, I dont know if it is appropriate to talk about this here, but why does cattle NOT include plains cattle, and why is there no way to include them anywhere (except maybe im not sure as generic food bonus...)

They don't show up as food bonuses because on plains in despotism they aren't (2f2s, irrigating or mining doesn't change this). This is a weakness, but since Moon is working on a different interface where you'll be able to more specifically control what you look for we have to wait patiently.

MapFinder DOES include Plains Cattle if you check the Cattle box......I know 'cos I just played a 60K with a 2-Plains-Cow start Map....and the 2-Cow-Minimum box was checked! :)

a plains cow irrigated is 3 food under despotism!

and to the other comment, Im pretty sure the latest version doesnt, maybe mapfinder detected some other cows, check again

This was the release note that came with the previous version (the second post of the MapFinder thread):

Changed to previous feature:

* MapFinder no longer counts Cattle on Plain as bonus resource. Therefore, if you happen to see a cow goes by and MapFinder didn't count, that is perfectly normal.

Since that day forward, MapFinder was no longer counting cattle on plain.:) Please confirm the version of your MapFinder. If it is still counting cattle on plain, please let me know. Thanks!

Oh, you're right, sorry. Not sure what I was thinking.

I'm left with no explanation why Moonsinger would exclude them.

My guess is because theyre not as strong to make Settler factories in many cases...
I understand that, but it would be nice to have an option to include them somewhere...
I mean theyre one of the strongest tile in the whole game (3f, 2s once irrigated) and cannot even be detected....

I excluded cow on plain because its bonus is insignificant! It doesn't matter if you play a fast game or a slow game, would you rather have cow on grassland or cow on plain? Please note that I excluded them only in version 5.7; other versions count everything...cow on desert, cow on swamp, cow on mountain...we all know that those cows are very none-productive and no one would want to start with them...therefore, I exclude them; since no one would want cow on plain any way, why keep them?

PS: It was just a figure of speech...there is really no need to tell me that there is no such thing as cow on mountain.;) All I'm saying is if there is such a thing as cow on mountain, I would exclude them because no one would want to start with them.

To make a 4 turns settler factory, you just need 1 cow on grassland at the starting position. Therefore, by setting MapFinder to include all maps with at least 1 cow, any map with 1 cow on grassland and 1 or more cows on plain/rock/swamp/mountain/whatever will also be included. Even though, I do not count them, they would still be included because the requirement of 1 cow on grasssland had already been meet!

Thats pretty much what I figured.. (it was about settler factories)..
But in other situations , for a 20k game say, a plains or grass cattle is not a big difference.

I dont understand why you say cows on plains are insignificant, theyre among the best tiles in the game?
Id rather have one of those then say a bonus grassland, which mapfinder DOES detect... (or in fact almost anything else, because as I said theyre

@Lul: You have to understand that Moonsinger just about invented milking and growth is just about the only important thing in the beginning to milk and most other games (like all that use Jason scoring).

@Moon: Your statement is true for most games, but there is a specific game where capital production is so important that you delegate capital growth to your second city, fast 20k.

Because of that the plains cow is one of the best for a fast culture 20k game. Bonus food in your start city is mostly irrelevant and only matters for how many low food spaces you can work. At any rate its all about shields and plains cow is superior to grassland for a couple reasons, one it starts at 2f2s, which is huge early game for temple, library etc. Two you can work it to 3f2s in 4 turns versus 6, *or*, 2f3s once out of despotism in 6 turns, compared to the second best of wine on hills which takes 12 turns.

Ok, if it is important to you guys, I will put it back in.:) No problem!:)

Please be careful with your thought, EMan!;) Some children may be listening!

Btw, just in case you didn't get what EMan was implying....I innocently said "if it is important to you guys, I will put it back in"... I'm not sure if EMan was thinking about MapFinder at all when he call me :queen: ;)

I read that as meaning EMan was grateful for your efforts on MapFinder. I guess that's because I'm a child (at heart) ;).
