Sanguivorant's IM A NOOB Walkthrough

Update:

Generally, there's good news and bad news.

The good news is that I've started the irrigation projects, and in 15 turns I turned a great deal of my land into farms. Also, another Great scientist will pop out in the next turn. I might just make an academy in York, since it is the second highest beaker city:

The bad news is that I was not able to pop out a great merchant in 15 turns. I tried everything that I could, including switching to caste from the beginning and switching to caste during the golden age. I just can't pop out a great merchant in time to switch back to slavery during the golden age. The next Great merchant will come out in 4 turns:

I did not screenie this, but I have a 15 stack army now from troops in Hastings and troops coming to Hastings. A good deal of it is swords and axes, which I wanted to switch to maces by conducting a trade mission with a GM. I think I will upgrade them next turn. It also consists of crossbowmen, and about 5 catapults. I believe that I could attack next update, as soon as I pop out my GM and conduct trade of course.

Meanwhile, Roosevelt is increasing in score. Don't know what to make of that.

Hi

Two fo the biggest factors in counting score is land and populatin. I am only mentioning this because while overall score can have nothing to do with your chances of winning a game, I think it should be pointed out that your cities population are VERY low for this stage in the game.

You had dbl digit happy cap potential since the very early part of the game and unless you were whipping like mad to make an army with plans to use it soon your capitol at the very least and maybe a cpl of the other cities with 2 or more food resources should be much much bigger at this point. And most likely Rosie now edging you in score a bit cuz his cities are starting to be a lil bigger now. Again, Im not saying things are bad for your chances of winning. But just that this should be an aspect of your game to work on. One of core rules of thumbs in civ is "land is power" However all that land isnt much help if you dont have the pop to use it.

Ideally you should have as high a happy cap as possible and that can vary over course of game depending on what resources, techs, buildings etc you have available and such but it should grow as game goes on and your cities population should be growing and pushing that cap as as quick as they can.

I guess you are right. I did do some extensive whipping in some of the cities, and in these few turns, I halted growth to try to pop out some great people.

Ideally, I should be keeping the population to the useful citizen limit (Where no citizens are sick or angry in a city). most, if not all of my cities should be able to grow up to 9 population, even more. I have to keep that in mind for the next update.

Well, it's okay to whip down certain cites in prep for war. Kat may not have been aware of this. Some cities can get more whip abuse because the either have high food or little going for them otherwise (resources, production, commerce).

However, you always want to keep certain cities growing like your capital and maybe another research hub. These serve as you main base for research and great people. Other cities can be abused. (The high growth cities can take some whips indeed, but less so that others)

You should not have taken the rice from London ever. This city does need to grow. Iron city is fine with Iron, 2spices and later chain farming.

Sorry about the Merchants. I should have test this myself to make sure the timings worked out. It's a very good plan, but should have been planned a bit earlier.

Still, I'm unsure why after my suggestion you continued to run scientists in York. Cantebury is working a dry rice tile instead of the fish. 2 more merchants could be run in Canturbury for a GM in 2 turns.

You really need to work on city micro. Besides what I mentioned above, look at Nott and tell me what is wrong with that picture

Why did you not switch to Hereditary Rule and Bureau during the golden age-anarchy free? These are two civics that you want asap and will use a long time. Hereditary Rule is huge alone for the boosted happiness.

Unfortunately, the AIs are reaching Feudalism, so you now face longbows. However, with plenty of cats and Macemen you should be fine starting a war soon.

In lieu of GM trade missions, you can run 0% research for a while to accumulate gold to upgrade your existing swords. You don't have to upgrade them all before attack as you will get some gold from conquering cities.

Go stomp on Darius.

Oh dear, I completely forgot about switcing during the golden age. I'll tell you what. The latest update is a separate save from the last update. I will just redo those 15 turns again, correcting some mistakes.

Like the time I captured the Pyramids and I didn't switch to Rep for the next 1500 years....
