I love how they're making such a big deal about the Beryllium on board. It's only dangerous if you breathe the stuff, and it's not as if the satellite is carrying tanks full of it, either, it's (and I hoped I would never use this phrase) fearmongering.

Here's another article that mentions possibilties behind the loss of control. I guess since it's a spy sat, detailed information is hard for the public to come by.

Considering they haven't been able to get the thing to respond since launch, it's probably just a failure in a communication array, and extremely unlikely someone tampered it.

Apparently the satellite's failure and fall from orbit, at least, has never been secret:
