Well, the title says it already.

Do you guys expect the patch accompanying the first NFP-DLC on thursday to break ongoing savegames?

I am asking for my ongoing multiplayer-games me and my friends have going, via cloud asynchronically and synchronically, when we get the chance to meet all at the same time. All of them are somewhere between T150 and T200 and it would be a shame to see these months spent go to waste. Yes, we are taking it slow ...

What is your experience in regards to such patches that substantially alter parts of the game (Well, I don't know it does for sure, granted, but as it has been almost nine months since the last one I expect this patch to be rather heavy.)?

It’s always a risk but the only new “game rules” will be optional. (Apocalypse mode.)

Most balance changes are just table updates, so that should be fine but may impact your play if they are substantial. EG balance changes dramatically swing the state of the game.

I mean you guys can always play with “maya & Gran Colombia pack” disabled.

I'm more concerned about every mod on the planet breaking, especially since I'd have to redo some of my own, too. I hope that won't happen because this is meant to be more modular, like DLC, so they shouldn't be completely changing the core game code...

Most mods should be fine, it's mostly UI mods and mods overriding the base game's files (like YnAMP for the setup, the map generation, the TSL and Culturally linked Start location options) that will break.

Saved games without mods should be working.

Now saved games with modded content, that's another issue, as IDs of custom items may change if there is free content (resources, units, buildings, modifiers, etc...) added to the base game with the patches.

Isn't there a way to prevent updates in Steam ? I experienced many changes in Civ5 vanilla where my strategy got ruined with the patches, and it made me very angry. (like relying on horse units to capture cities, hello the nerfing horse units patch !)

But you will not be able to see the new changes in solo though... hmm tough decision.

If you "select only update when I start game" in Steam update for Civilization VI then only play offline Civ will not update.
