SaveGame editor for late version of Civ3?

Hi all. I have been trying to use a SaveGame editor for my Steam-downloaded version of Civ3, but so far all the editors I've tried have not been able to open any .sav files. I suspect this is because I'm using a late version of Civ3 and that the editors I've downloaded only work with older versions.

Can y'all tell me if there's anything I can do? Or am I just out of luck?

Thanks very much.

Well that is the Goldflash we all know.

Considering that was BeyondDC's first post, that is not exactly what I would call a polite welcome, regardless of who the individual is. BeyondDC has no idea who Goldflash is beyond a 25-year old who could use some lessons in civility.

Now, Moderators, go ahead and rip me and ignore Goldflash.

Sounds like your browser is trying to open it. Maybe right click and save-as?

... Or maybe the Steam save files are different.

Either way, thanks for trying.

BeyondDC, try putting it in a .zip file and uploading it to the thread.

He wouldn't be a grumpy old man otherwise…
I can confirm the format is different. Normally, it rules are embedded in the save, just at the beginning.

Here it jumps straight to the GAME section.
So Firaxis modified portions of the game to make it Steam compatible, but they won't fix artillery? Hmmm...

Simply enough, fixing the dozens of bugs that civ3 has or releasing the civ3 coding so that people can fix it will not yield any financial profit, so why should they?
On the other hand, enabling a Steam version of civ3 does fulfil the 'makes money' condition, so there you go.

Steam is the best thing ever. Don't knock steam. Also, I don't get why you're knocking a for-profit company for trying to make a profit. Firaxis isn't a charity.

He's got a point there about Firaxis not being a charity. I wish I knew someone there to contact and bribe, er I mean financially motivate to fix all that's wrong with C3C. ;)

:deadhorse:

The threads are still here. Worth reading. Financial incentives have been offered amongst other things. It's a dead end. As in dead. End.

Which is why all of our wonderful utility makers deserve to have their work discussed & used.

Firaxis might not be a charity, but selling a product which doesn't work as advertised (glance at my FUBAR thread) AND NOT FIXING IT is worthy of ... commentary ...
