I had a lot of fun playing this scenario as Boer. No mountain to block anyone, tough to balance econ, culture while at constant war with several well established European civs.

Ability: each farm +1 :c5food: and +1 :c5culture:
UU: Weaker rifleman but + 50% defense and +25 HP if it destroys a unit.
VC: gain culture as your VP. You get additional culture by killing enemy units (base strength or ranged strength). So constant war is necessary.

Highest VP at turn 100 wins the challenge. Enjoy!

Sorry only got turn 1 save.

Hint:
Spoiler :

1. look to steal Zulu worker/settlers early, your units are stronger than Impies

2. England and Germany will DOW from the start

3. Only use your Foreign Volunteers in your Own territory

4. Use GGs to steal lux

My effort so far:
Spoiler :

Just became score leader at turn 79. Got lots of highly promoted units. Defending on all sides.

I was never able to win this one without taking lot of city from the other culture IA. (sub saharian, like ethiopia and zoulou) (you wipe out zoulou ? completly ?)

how the F* did you manage to get that score without conquering something ?

I was around that score as OCC. I missed first place by 1 turn GW pop and didn't want to replay so I have yet to do it in full -_-

Once you fill the right end of the tree and have all of your caps' GW/GA filled, your CPT is crazy and a GW yields a horsehockyton of points towards VC.

I am actually impressed that he managed to defend this AND get his culture up. The games I would try early wars I would always wind up feeling way too far behind on GAMW spawns hence I moved towards a peaceful approach of moving all units/settlers/workers for about 10 turns north to find a highly defendable position while letting AIs unleash on Shaka.

Once I got Dowed by England and Germany at the start, I realized I had to build up a potent defensive force. So I dedicated the capital to first max hammer output, and then military. Caravans were used to deliver hammers, GE rushed 2 factories (traded coal with France). Built a couple of Cavs and 2 Rifle Cannons before building HE and Mil Academy.

I also filled 3 left Social policies (before going to the right side ones) to maximize my army efficiency at killing invaders; it did not take long to complete the full SP tree). 45%(clear terrain)+15%(HE)+15%(in own territory)+15%(adjacent to friendlies)+15%(General) gives 105% bonus fighting in my territory, not to mention the additional 50% defensive bonus for the Foreign Volunteers. Later on, my Cavs and FVs were promoted to Bliz+March, each one of these units were better than 2 AI units of the same type. And I started getting 2 shot cannons near turn 70. I built plenty of road so that cannons and move 2 tiles and setup and shoot in the same turn. At that point, anything enters my territory get killed on the same turn, even there are a lot of them

As you can see in the turn 79 screen shot, I am maxing out Cavs by available horses, and have plenty of Cannons, the Cavs get to Bliz+March ridiculously fast give all the bonus fighting within my territory. Most cannons got clear terrain bonus, at 45XP when built, it takes 28 turns for them to get to logistics (2 shots) if they get to fire at something every turn, and in this scenario, it is pretty close to that.

In the beginning, the culture I earner from killing invaders far outpaced culture I produced in cities. I dedicated the 2nd city as the GP farm (with NE+Garden) running all 3 types of culture specialists. This city did not produce a single unit yet.

I was able to bribe Portugal to attack Shaka, and it did not take much of my own force to capture Shaka's cities once he were weakened.

I completely forgot about Hermitage until now, so will try to get that in the GP farm. Another GW will be born in 5 turns will burn him on culture.

This is my second attempt as I got back stabbed by Portugal while invading Germany and England in the first try. So in the second try, I just stayed in my land (except quickly killed Shaka) and defended and just reaped cultures from kills.

I play this scenario many time (achievement OCD this summer), and the one I win was one of the game where i got lucky enough to exploit DOW between euro civ against ethiopia / zoulou.
I ended up with a good part of the pacific coast of africa. and my opponent for culture have been beaten down by other.

I try one or two defensive game like that at the beginning, and was always far behind the other culture civ at the end, i surely was doing something wrong...

nice sum up. almost wanting to try that again. (almost... I play like 30 time this scenario to get all the achievments)

update at turn 87, extended my lead more by burning a GW. Took a city from Portugal since it was easy. Started on Hermitage, wont make a big diff at this stage. Got a cannon to Logistics+Range (2 shots and range 4). Several other Cannons hit Logistics.

Still, Portugal's soldier score is 3 times of mine lol.
