Scions documentation

Maximum number of spawns is tied to the size of the land on the map (not total mapsize, so it can vary say, between an archipelago map and a Pangaea map of the same size.) When the counter disappears, you don't get more Awakened unless you go under the limit.

You can build Awakened in the capital city, and with Religious Law and Sorcery you can build Reborn in any city that has a Cathedral of Rebirth. However, those require four of the scion theater replacers, requiring Drama also.

You can use the entire Scion priest line to capture reborn, but Korinna gets a little nerfed there. If you Raze a captured city while you have both Priesthood and Sorcery you will get reborn equal to the pop points of the razed city. God King assists in this by lowering the number of pop you lose when you take the city.

The Scion tech-tree is kinda all over the place, but if you get a few solid commerce cities you'll manage fine. Another option (not that I am biased) is Fall Flat, which lets you build a Cathedral of Rebirth for every four Temples of the Gift, letting you at least dodge Drama. And Fall Flat's got a more forgiving number of awakened spawn. But the amount of land on the map is still the biggest factor.

When I make my mod of your mod of Magister's mod of Vehem's mod the Curia's status will be the biggest factor.

What I do is this
1.) ranged combat with catapults
2.) ranged combat with archers against strongest defenders (with the ranged combat promotions they can get the enemy down to 60% or so)
3.) now either send in some more catapults or just attack with legates

It really helps if Orthus donated his axe to your cause.

I feel that this is a problem. it's very hard to recruit people until you get priesthood.

Yeah, but there's a very fine line between "enough recruitment" and "So many reborn, am now steamrolling game". Given much more pop than they currently get they can become a steamroller.

Wow, theres so many different ideas on how to set the scions up its like they are a mini mod themselves.

Can you still get awakened from killing animals and barbarians with priests?

Not from animals, and the chance to do it from barbarians is reduced - usually you'll get a low tier military unit.

I have some questions about the Scions. I read the first few pages, but this thread is just too long to read the whole of it.

I'm playing with Korinna, noble (or was it prince?) difficulty, small map.

Is there a maximum number of spawns? I'm on turn 267 and the spawn rate next to the mana disappeared a while ago. I haven't got a new awakened since then, I think.

Why did that happen? There might be a limit, but I really don't know how to check that. On the civilopedia info about Scion population (and the first post here) it says stuff like:

"World Size adjustment:
Population limit/ 40
The limit is 20 for a Duel sized world and goes up to 70 for a Huge world"

Well... I don't understand what that means exactly. If the map is small, does that mean only 30 (or 20 or something) awakened will spawn, and then you have to build them in the capital or get them some other way? Can someone explain to me how it goes exactly?

I have 5 cities, with pops 15, 7, 5, 4, 1 (the smaller one I conquered). That means I spawned about 25 awakened (and I got 5 with Pelemoc), since I built none and didn't get any through war (that thing about "recruiting" with legates, but I didn't use legates because they are too weak...).

There is a limit to the number of awakened that will spawn. Once your population hits a certain point, you won't receive any more free awakened unless your population goes back under the cap.

Once the counter shuts down, you can either build Awakened in the capital, or build a Cathedral of Rebirth (Check the 'pedia for the requirement, think it requires a building unlocked with Drama, as well as Religious Law). Once you build the Cathedral, you can start training Reborn, which are generally faster.

That sounds a lot like that thing I said up there.

Maybe it has something to do with my current game being on Deity, but I'm anything but steamrolling. My awakened spawn rate slowly dropped and now hovers around 5-6% despite my best efforts to increase it.

I've got a few legates, and a sum total of one reborn from quite a few battles so far.
Pelemoc isn't much use either, since all my neighbors are at war with me.

Well, IMHO Deity is supposed to be nearly impossible. The bonuses the AI gets and the fact that they will hate you, says something.

How do I get Alcinus to build the Thau Keep? I have positioned him in a non capital city but do not get an option to build anything. When I look in the pedia it says it requires 'never' to build and cannot be built by any nation ... ?

It's a spell, and you can only do it once, and only if you're the Scions. Other than that, dunno.

Well, I am playing the scion ... and I even have Alcinus! :king:

I figured it was similar to Dark Council or M's Residence, but have3 just not seen an option to 'cast' Thau keep on a city. Was just wondering if it was reliant on any techs other than Kowledge of the Ether.

Is there a chance Amurites have casted Arcane Lacuna? If it is a spell, it can explain that.
Posting a save game will save us a lot of speculation, though.

You can't build the keep in the capital...
