Those pigs look absurdly like Brahmin from Fallout 4,

(Sugar/Rice?)

Definitely rice. Rice always looks kind of floppy, while sugar cane is very rigid and has a brownish base; it looks like mini palm trees IMO.

Source: Am from Louisiana, have lived next to a sugar cane field.

Wheat is the yellow field. Unless it is green until you build the farm.

 Oh Eagle.. obviosuly this is before you conquer the wheat with farms.

I do question the color, but the appearance is very similiar to wheat.. just different color.

I'm hoping it's rice though.

Rice I would expect some water, just to differentiate from wheat or other tall grass resources that might be in the game.

Maybe it's weed. That would be pretty amazing.

[snip]

Maybe, but when it's full-grown you barely see the water.

It could alternatively be tall grass. Changes to grassland after discovering Lawnmowers.

I understand. Rice in Civ4 also had water on the map, just to make it stand out. That's where I'm going with that.

It's possible that is Rice and they go with the yellow tinged tall grass for wheat.

It differs too much from previous depictions of sugar, which usually have specks of white.

Actual sugarcane stalks aren't that straight either.

I bet it's just going to turn out to be "grass."

Actually the rating information put up on one of the press release articles says that the game has been uprated for alcohol, violence, and drug use. Wacky tobaccy could be in this time.

I just tried to track down which article it was, but all I found was that Rock, Paper, Shotgun doesn't have an article anymore.

"Alcohol and Tobacco" is a general term. It's probably just for wine.

also those ratings could come from information in the civiliopedia, which is what happened last time

Yeah I see what you mean, and it's a good idea, but I'm 99% sure that's rice up there. I've lived most of my life close by sugar cane and rice fields, and between the two, it definitely looks more like late-season rice. It probably would be a smarter choice to depict it early/mid-season with the water though.
