[NFP] September Update Video Discussion

Confirms most dedications will be reformed as golden age policies, altough new ones seem to be added too - Sakdina? (wikied it, is a system of Thai hierarchy) is new, and more focused in the loyalty game. Dark policies are probably revamped as you'll need a bit more punch in the Dark Age.

Dramatic ages will probably military more needed, not to fight other civs, but to quell your own rebellions. Just hoping they probably have tweaked the number of cities rebelling on a dark age depending on the age. Losing half your empire when you have only 4 cities and room for expansion is maybe not as bad as loosing half of a consolidated empire late game (probably % of rebellious cities should diminish by age, or be a fixed number)

I would imagine that the importance of Reform the Coinage dedication/policy card or internal trade routes will increase, since all these Free City will be the border cities of an empire and all their rebels will pillage your traders non-stop.

Renaissance Italy is already in the game as it should be , a bunch of city states. There was no central polity of even much unity. They certainly didn't think of themselves as italian. And Gauls were in far mor than france that is very reductive. They were in Italy and Spain and germany and even in Central Anatolia. Hopefully the civ 6 city list reflects this and is not the civ 5 celts which were just the welsh or britons

As were greek city states ;)

Plus we don't even have the italian city states in the game, there is only Bologna. Now they are adding Venice with this DLC (???), I guess it's something :\

Firaxis tried to be sneaky this time with blurring out the leader portraits in the preview video, but it's pretty easy these days to undo the simple filters in most image programs. ;) Very happy with the new Byzantium leader this time around.

I'm afraid I'm biased with each release now, but can we really call that a new game mode ?

For example, that would be a new game mode:
it could open up some possibilities down the line for something like forming new nations mid game

Well took a gamble with the frontier pass and that’s the risk right? Especially buying something without a set road map. Disappointed for the new game mode once again. I like some aspects of it but I understand the difficulty of catering to casual players while trying to please the experienced ones. Dark Ages for me (in the rare chance I got one) seemed way to easy and the only difference I really had was that the screen was darker. So I would’ve loved to seen them make dark ages harder in the base game rather than taking out heroic and normal. While it is historical and that has been my main issue with the FP it’s just way to unbalanced to leave on just like all of the other game modes. I guess with FXS you have to be careful what you wish for. Honestly have not touched Civ in months waiting for an update that was worthwhile but hope seems to be dwindling. Civs are great as usual and I’m glad they are adding new leader animations. I now wonder what one liner bio they will write up for Sean Bean.

IIRC devs like Anton and people on the forum like @acluewithout already pointed out that the NFP gamemodes will not change the core game mechanics too much, only small changes (comparing to the changes in 2 major DLCs) will be made.

Maybe we will get a second dlc pass after all with other returning civs, if Portugal and Babylon don't show up which I feel is now actually possible.
Who knows, maybe NFP has performed well enough that they've decided more content is feasible.

So what is math behind because Portugal is not in this pack, would not be at all.

And I belive they will surely tweam age mode, its something I wanted all along, but I would imagine this would have some tweaks during later patches ( or by mods, i think it would be easy to add those to this mode)

I'm starting to think it might have, for two reasons, one, it generates a really strong constant hype. So they defeniately must have attracted a lot of new gamers both with the NFP and the rerelease on Epic. I think it's doing (favourably, I mean I like the new packs, they keep the game fresh witout overhauling it completely). And we're getting small but monthly updates. So the hype is maintained for pretty much a year.

I think it's just a guess based on wanting to have a wider geographic distribution of the civs in the pack.

It's actually very obvious that they are doing geographical packs. Pack 1 was South American. Pack 2 was African. Pack 3 was European.

Both Gaul and Byzantium are I believe associated with Europe.

Also I love the low key Rise and Fall of Rome theme to this with the Dramatic Ages.

Automatically losing Cities in a Dark Age could be a cool change. And Golden Age overflow is a great change.

But losing Normal Ages will stop this being an always on Game Mode. The game will just lurch too much from highs and lows.

Trading Dedications for Golden Age Cards will be a question of taste for most people. But to me it’s not a change I’m excited about. I’d rather have seen a few more Dedications rather than just ditching the concept.

The game modes all seem to be very gimmicky. Some good ideas, but mixed in with stuff that’s pretty shallow. To me, all these game modes need another pass to rebalance and or refine the designs more.

I really do hope Firaxis take another run at this in a season 2 or a proper Third Expansion. Because these game modes really aren’t doing it for me. Some things about them are cute, and some are too cute by half, but none of them are great. I really add hoped for much more than this.

Oh well.

It is what it is.

I wouldn't call Venice - which is only now being added with this pack - and Bologna and Vatican City - both of which were part of the Papal States - 'a bunch'.

I would rather see a Civ based around the Italian city-states but at least if they were to add Genoa, Florence and Milan as city-states, then the statement that Renaissance Italy is adequately represented might be remotely accurate.

*wakes from Humankind-enduced sleep*

Wha- what? Oh cool!
Spoiler :
*ahem*something to distract myself while I wait for the next Humankind culture reveal*ahem*

First of all, I expected Byzantium but I did not expect Gaul. Hooray for de-blobbing civs!

Dramatic ages sound great on paper, and I think it's what people expected dark and golden ages to be when they were announced as a feature for R&F. There is that worry though that since you remove normal ages the golden and dark ages get overpowered. Eh, it's a game mode anyway.

All the other features are okay.

I think that the Byzantine leader has a medium-length grey beard. They didn't really make it easy to upscale it this time ;)

Also, GAUL??? That's goosebumps for me, even though I'd like to finally have my Portugal.

Sneaky sneaky devs :nono:

So in civ6 we can have:
- Rome and Byzantium
- Ottomans and Byzantium
- Greece and Macedon and Byzantium
- Gauls and France

We cannot have:
- Renaissance Italy and Rome

Well, RIP.

At least this DLC sounds very good and the mode is interesting+historical, much better compared to the first two.

My enthusiasm for an Italian civ in Civ6 has gone from promising hope four years ago, to just near-disappointment with a hint of cautious expectation. Honestly who knows, maybe Tuscany/Florence gets to be the civ instead of Venice.:crazyeye:

Gauls will be a sort of blob if they give Ambiorix for exemple, it's really depend if they choose a leader which represent well the "gaulish" culture (as we can define it, which it's already difficult). Tbh, I would like to see Belgae in a game, but, really, there is a war of terminology here.

So, what will happen to Hagia Sofia, seems weird to build it in the wrong timeline now ?
