Server is too busy

I got a "server is busy" message for 15 minutes at 3:30 in the morning.

These new people are not going to magically vanish.
In fact, if anything we can expect the community to grow massively for CIV 5.

Disabling function after function of the forum until all that remains is a white page with single line borders and the post function are not going to help much.

Sooner or later the administration will have to update to new and improved servers.
Either that, or risk loosing many of the old members in favor of guest accounts made to post another: I hate [insert function here] rant.

But I hope I got my point across.

I agree that we have arrived at a new normal. Civ4 was going strong after 5 years, but now that we have a new Civ and expansions on the way and probably even more mods than Civ4, this is likely to be a sustained push.

As someone who basically lives on this site, it's been really hard since Civ5.

Anyone else having problems while connected to the site? Because it is considerably slower for me nowdays, when i can connect (connecting has got to be harder to)

Yes, its slower right before it says "Server Busy" (For me anyway)

Anyway so far today I've had the server busy once, while I was at school on my Ipod.

Has been slower, though no problem connecting, and it´s fine now.

How about we kick out all the guests?

Yeah, we could do that, consider they're probably about 60% of the load right now. However, it would needlessly piss a lot of people off. No need to create an account just to read the forums.

Whether this is a good idea or not, it is not "Needless."

Whether its worth it or not, it would improve the quality of the forum and it would make things easier. It isn't "Needless" and its a good idea.

I support it for a few days at least, keep the forums usable for members. You can always lift the ban in a few days.

Or, on a less extreme note, let guests in, but give members first priority.

All Turner is saying is that there is no sense in aggravating guests when there isn't a need to. :) He's not saying the idea is needless...whatever that means.

I don't get how there "Isn't a need" when its hard to get into the sight during all daylight hours.

I realize there are reasons for not doing it but its not "Needlessly."

I could make the same argument about why the admins shouldn't block members or forums that don't contribute to the main purpose of the website. Maybe they should block OT or people who only post in OT for while?

Seriously, there's a whole lot of the Little Red Hen in this thread.

I definately don't want to see guests turned away, but I wouldn't assume this is going to die down anytime real soon. During the day I'm rejected more than half the time, sometimes for more than an hour. I hope a long term solution is found.

Forums need a server upgrade.

Or just certain people.

Blocking guests would be counter productive to attracting new members so is stupid.

Closing down OT for a while could work OK but it's not exactly the most popular forum (civ 5 ones have loads of browsers).
