SGn00b - for those new to SG's

Don't listen to him, he's a misspelt, unsuccessful, pretentiously named and entirely naff euroskeptic political party started by the permaglow-coated former chat-show host Robert Kilroy Silk, a muppet of the highest order. :P

Oh oh... What can we culture bomb?

naff: British idiom, meaning rubbish, a bit crappy, old-fashioned, not up-to-scratch.

muppet: ditto, recent, meaning idiot or fool (not a dig at Sadan - I love the Muppets with a capital M).

Okay, now I've got the save.

I've been playing Advance Wars all day today. I can't help but think how much easier war against Inca or Azteca would be if we could use CO powers, like Sensei's (free mech infantry in every city).

pie, build the cavs and whoever is next will kill them

naff: British idiom, meaning rubbish, a bit crappy, old-fashioned, not up-to-scratch.
so when I see naff, you're talking about me?

Turn 0 (1560 AD):
Wow nice job clearing out all that jungle. I order a mine for the unmoved worker and the other unmoved worker moves down to Texcoco to help with jungle removal. Sleep the Great Artist, he could be useful in an emergency or a war later.

Turn 1 (1565 AD):
We’re leaking money faster than a thing with a lot of holes in it (I’m too tired to think of an analogy) so I turn science down to 70%, while still getting Military Tradition in 1 turn. More worker actions.

Turn 2 (1570 AD):
Mansa Musa cancels gold for spices deal… or something. Well, somehow we aren’t getting spices for gold any longer. Military Tradition comes in, I queue up Printing Press for the extra gold from towns and villages and such.

Turn 3 (1575 AD):
Shanghai doesn’t really need a courthouse right now, so I change to a cavalry. Also, put science back up to 80%.

Turn 4 (1580 AD):
Shuffling workers around is all.

Turn 5 (1585 AD):
Another uneventful turn other than shuffling tiles around in the cities.

Turn 6 (1590 AD):
Beijing finishes grocer, starts cavalry. More worker actions.

Turn 7 (1595 AD):
Machu Picchu finishes Christian Monastery, starts Barracks, just because there’s nothing else pressing to build. Also, I shuffle tiles around so it will grow faster.

Turn 8 (1600 AD):
Snore.

Turn 9 (1605 AD):
Pliny rates us as number 3 of the world’s most powerful nations. Angle finishes Heroic Epic, starts a cavalry. Guangzhou finishes the Hermitage and starts a cavalry.

Turn 10 (1610 AD):
Another snore.

End of turn thoughts:
Printing Press due in two, which should alleviate some if not most of our debt. I didn’t get any cavalry built, but there’s one in three from Beijing, and a few more coming soon after. Nothing much happened. Can you believe my entire report fit on one Microsoft Word page? Take it away Sir Toma.

On Mansa Musa

Turn OOPS! (1656 AD)
I accidentaly pressed enter after my last turn but i haven't done anything on this one. Sorry.

Summary:
We are a long way from a war currently, we need more attacking troops, more defensive troops and our cities need to become more productive. I also noticed that alot of our cities have lots of cottages and workshops which is great...except that the cities don't have enough food to work them. If we want to win a war against the Inca (who i think should be our target) we're going to need some more cavalry and catapults, as well as some Grenadiers for taking out the pikemen.

Good Luck Pling!

Just some other Screenies:D

Got it! Will hopefully play later today (this afternoon is lining up to be all Civ all the time :D)

Am I right in thinking we've got two great people there, an artist and a prophet? I think I'd be favouring a golden age with them at present depending on what techs they can work on, although the artist could be very useful to CB a captured city in order to end its resistance and ward off enemy culture. What else can we get out of the prophet?

The Prophet will get us Education.

I was hoping it'd be some dumb tech we wouldn't want, as then there'd be no decisions to make ;) But Education may well be useful. I think I'm inclining towards having the prophet get us Edu and the artist culture bombing something useful in the war ...

I'll hold off playing so other people can offer opinions and hopefully we'll get some sort of consensus :)

If it's education I'm with you - save the artist for the war and our golden ages for later when we've got more cities.

I second (or I suppose third) education. Does the prophet get us all of Education? That'd be excellent, though I seem to remember that this late in the game you usually don't get a full tech from a GP. I could just be :smoke: though.

It seems to be all of Edu - I was rather surprised, so double checked after I'd posted the last message.

I'm sorting out the post for a different SG I'm in (and then rebooting - my graphics program is in a different OS to Civ so it's reboot-tastic) then I think I'll just play this set, going for Edu & keeping the artist ... given the person who'd suggested otherwise has now changed his mind :) (and it's back to plan A for the artist anyway).

Turn 1 (1656 AD)
Tech learned: Education
Used up St Augustine and got an^H^H Education :mischief:
Send worker to Tlacopan to sleep - can't see anything immediately useful to do with him
Beijing grows: 18
Beijing's borders expand
Guangzhou grows: 12
Angle finishes: Galley

Turn 2 (1658 AD)
IBT: The Incans ask us to convert, I tell them no
IBT: Mansa asks us for Open Borders, I say yeah (it'd be nice if he started to like us, and I don't think this hurts at the moment)
Really can't see much for the workers to do, so send them all (as they finish stuff) to the nearest city to sleep for a while - till we have lumbermills I guess, or want to choprush something
Shanghai grows: 8
Shanghai finishes: Musketman
Machu Picchu grows: 5

Turn 3 (1660 AD)

Musketman promoted: City Garrison I
Musketman promoted: City Garrison II

Guangzhou finishes: Musketman
Good Enough grows: 8
Ironchou finishes: Catapult

Turn 4 (1662 AD)

Beijing begins: Grenadier
Guangzhou begins: Grenadier

Musketman promoted: City Garrison II
Musketman promoted: City Garrison I
Musketman promoted: City Garrison II

Turn 5 (1664 AD)
Machu Picchu begins: Musketman
Angle finishes: Harbor

Turn 6 (1666 AD)
Angle begins: Cavalry
IBT: The Incans asked for Philosophy, I said no
Beijing finishes: Grenadier
Good Enough finishes: Granary

Turn 7 (1668 AD)
Beijing begins: Cavalry
Good Enough begins: Musketman
Galley is now in place

Looking round our cities in terms of offence/defence:
Beijing is making Cavalry, in 12 turns there'll be two to load onto the galley, has quite a lot of defence
Shanghai is making Cavalry, there are already several there, need more defence
Angle makes Cavalry, some defence present, need more
Ironchou makes Cavalry, adequately defended
Guangzhou makes a Grenadier, quite a bit of defense, maybe need more, might be an idea to build up an offense stack here
Tlacopan has some defense, needs more, it's making a courthouse and seems not involved in army buildup at the moment, and it's pretty far from the proposed front
Good Enough is light on defense, but is currently making a Musketman
Machu Picchu has Longbows galore, needs some more modern defences too. Maybe build up an attack stack here?
Texcoco needs modern defense and has a few offensive units
Texcoco: The courthouse in Texcoco is important - it's at -10 for maintenance

All thoughts were based on making war on the Incans first. However, the Aztecs are more annoyed with us, so we'll have to make sure the defences down south are up to scratch before getting distracted by the Incans

Turn 8 (1670 AD)
Judaism has spread: Kumbi Saleh (Malinese Empire)
Judaism has spread: Kumbi Saleh (Japanese Empire)

Saladin has a Golden Age (Taj Mahal)
IBT: Mansa asked us to join his war against the Japanese, I said no way!

And to finish picture of the empire:

Ok, I've got it, though no guarantees (I can never spell that darn word) when I'll play. Should be by tomorrow night, though weekends are unpredictable (I usually have time) and I always seem to be up in this and another SG at the same time. Are we thinking a war soon?
