Hmmm... I actually remember that, however for some reason I thought our eternal friend would sign a PA despite his power position.

On gifting units staged for attacking Saladin to Roosevelt, I don't think that would be a good idea. We still need to attack Saladin for domination and we might already have lost a lot of time with the PA-fiasco.
I have another suggestion: we still have loads of units on our homeland, almost all of our cities have at least 2 garrison units. Since most of them are obsolete, I would suggest setting research to 0%, cash in, promote these units, then gift them to Roosevelt. We still have some empty Galleons near the Incan lands, it will probably cost them about 4 turns to return to the homeland, load the units and bring them to Portland or that island city south of Inca.
It's of course not the smoothest way, but gifting away our units near Arabia and staging a whole new attack will cost much longer. If we do that, we might even end up finishing at a later date than Team VQ:eek:
 
That is my worry too - not having enough units to take out Saladin - I don't really care when we finish. However, we need the PA to actually finish. I checked the Dom limits (45% for population and 64% for land). We are at 39% and 36% while Gandhi is at 15% (estimate because Roosevelt is 2nd with 20%) and 23%. That means the only problem one is land where we are at 59% - 6% shy of what we need. I am really hoping that Cyrus' cities will give us that.

So - I am proposing to give away just enough of our Saladin-staged units to make Gandhi 2nd in power and starting building units at home like crazy (including the use of the whip and also drafting) - send our galleons back home to pick them up and sailing on Saladin with our new units. As soon as we sign the PA, we take out Cyrus and hope that we don't need any of Saladin's cities to cross the Dom threshold.

I don't really see how this is better than my suggestion. Your way will take longer. I'm not even considering score here, but I see no point in dragging out the game, it doesn't add anything to the game anymore. And why would we attack Cyrus and *hope* that that will be enough, while we have enough forces near Arabia already to take out Saladin, which will (almost) certainly put us past the treshold?

If I remember correctly, Roosevelt is very close to Gandhi in power. This means upgrading a couple of units back home could be enough to put him past Gandhi.

I start by checking the diplomatic situation. We have a Defensive Pact with Gandhi but so does Cyrus. I check about a Permanent Alliance and get the message "We are doing just fine on our own." As you can see from the post above, this means that Gandhi will not sign a PA while he is #1 in power.

I invite Gandhi over for a cup of tea and a discussion about the intelligence that he has been given. Here is his understanding of the situation ...

I leave the information with Gandhi to consider. At the same time, I put all of our cities on a Cannon build (except hammer poor cities - I just leave them alone). Several turns go past and Gandhi still is unsure about a PA with the following comment "We haven't had a defensive pact or shared a war for long enough". At least that is a different message. We learn Assembly Line and I set the tech for Biology (Gandhi knows all the other techs that will soon be ours - at least I hope they will soon be ours).

Following the PA, we are at 59.7% population (domination limit 46%) and 61.2% land (domination limit 66%). I immediately declare war on Cyrus and ask Gandhi to take care of Minoan (by turns end he is still working on that city but he has captured one of Cyrus' other cities and we have captured the other one - Cyrus is down to one city). I have about 6 units in Gandhi's land that are heading to Cyrus' last city to give Gandhi a helping hand. Gandhi also gives us Dye and Uranium.

I don't like the look of Saladin's capital or the city near the capital (probably too full of units) so I sail slightly North, declare war on Saladin and take one of his cities. He has sent some camals and catapults as counter-attack but they are all dead for the loss of two units.

I swapped to Nationhood and drafted a bunch of infantry (after the PA so that we got infantry instead of musketmen) but I think we should swap our civics back to the ones that give additional XPs). Tranports are marshalling for troop pickup. We also have Galleons that we should upgrade to transports. I have been running at 100% cash to build up gold for rushing units and upgrades. We don't really need any more tech.

Finally, there is no unit that needs a medic upgrade :D, rather, we popped a Great Artist and I can think of nothing better for him to do than entertain the boys at the Saladin front with a Great Work - 4000 culture points should pop a few borders! The Great Artist is on one of the Transports heading for Saladin's Land (or should I say ... ex-land).

Good turns Ruff! I looked at the SGOTM Progress page just before you posted, thinking we'd finished the game already. That's not the case, but still well done there. We are on the brink of Domination!

Gathering from the report I assume you followed your own plan. Whether that was the best way or not we'll never know, but I'm satisfied with the result, so no :gripe: from me:lol: Is the Great Artist on one of those transports in your screenshot of the Arabian Front?

And are we gifting transports away to Finland now? Don't get overenthusiastic ruff:mischief:
 
You can download the previous save and try your route to a PA. My thinking was that it would take a few turns to gather enough galleons and troops to bounce Roosevelt enough. Yes, giving away seasoned troops was hard but we could easily catch that back up. Here is our power graph over the last 50 turns ...

I think that jeejeep will be the last unless he fails to post a 'got it' in the next 24 hrs.
 
We won in 1742. Not much to write about, it was over as soon as the great artist arrived in the former Arabian city. We never captured any more Arabic cities, but Gandhi captured Minoan and some other cities came out of resistance. I have attched some pics and the replay file for anyone who wants to see. Great game, guys. Now lets get to reading the other threads.

Well done all. Pity we cannot see the score in the score screen shot :D. Also, 3996 points - you couldn't squeeze another 4 from somewhere? Have you uploaded the final save file?

From reading the spoilers - we removed the Russian civ very early. Knowning that she had that second source of copper really helped us.
