SGOTM 02 - Geezers

8) 1914AD : raze Cologne and that's it. :woohoo:

Thank you guys to keep this going. :hatsoff: It was a quite funny game and I am very curious to read how CFR could finish that early.

No hanging about for you mark. :goodjob: I didn't expect all the cities to topple that fast. :king:

Tanks and gunships sped it up quite nicely.:) I was a little worried about the transport with the settler. Could have been an annoying search for that ship.

Thanks Gyathaar.

Who's interested in the next SG?

I'm not decided yet, but I am sure it will be hard to resist once the sign up thread is opened.:)

Before I forget I would like to thank all those that lasted the course. :goodjob: I'm not sure what happened to trippstowe and juballs. They were both pretty reliable in the last SG. Presumably RL struck. :( sidioustone obviously wasn't that interested as he/she never even signed into the thread.

By the by, a cursory glance over some of the other threads shows a fair amount of drop outs as well. :( Perhaps having only one victory condition (conquest) and the start positions discouraged a number of people. I have to say that this particular game wasn't the most inspiring from my point of view. Hopefully the next one won't have just one victory condition. (crosses fingers)

Thanks to you and klarius and an occasional thrallia we could keep it going. :thanx: I stated in our thread at the start that this setting might discourage some people. That was why I could not believe that the maintenance would be that high for the second city. Only Team CFR was able to win this very early, so we still have much to learn. Nevertheless I had a lot of fun with it.

Thanks to the SGOTM crew for setting this up. :goodjob:

It will have two..

Thanks for the info Gyathaar. :)

@markh - Any chance you could post the save before the conquest pop up appears (1914?). It would be interesting to see the stats screens.

I just have the 1913AD save. Here it is.

Thanks mark.

Interesting to note that Izzie survived till 1274 AD. In retrospect I suppose we should have got rid of her earlier. Still at least we don't pick up the woodn spoon. :p ;)

Yeah, by that time CFR was already through with this game.

From a past Geezer and occasional SGTOM 02 lurker...

:goodjob:

Well done, and congrats for sticking in there as the team got smaller. I enjoyed watching you keep up the Geezer's winning tradition! :)

Thanks. I noticed you are quite active and successfull in the HOF. :goodjob: Keep it up.

sweet, great job mark :)

I'm up for the next SG if you guys don't mind me, I shouldn't have as many RL surprises anymore...my wife is teaching me how to plan stuff out so I don't get overwhelmed suddenly ;)

Of course you are welcome from my side if we can get a Geezers crew together for the next one.

I have not checked the poll whether to play SGOTM in vanilla or warlords. I just have vanilla and I do not know whether I will purchase warlords soon. In my opinion there are not much new things in warlords to encourage me to spend even more money on this game which cost me a new PSU and some more fans.

What are you two intend to play ? Vanilla or warlords ?

Currently I only have vanilla although I was thinking of buying warlords as a christmas present for myself now that the patch is out. Even if I do that I think I would prefer to play vanilla rather than try and get my head around the changes in the midst of a SG.

I'll play either, I've got warlords, and the new patch for it definitely makes things interesting, but I'm not sure I like the idea of doing an SG as the first thing I do with the (much) stronger AI present in Warlords v2.08

double post, but...

Looking at the poll results so far a clear pattern emerges..
Vanilla vs warlords have about equal following..
The majority of the voters want some kind of mix between the two, with most people wanting two seperate competitions.

I suggest the following:
Next SGOTM will be a split competition, using same setup for both vanilla and warlords, players will have to choose one version to play in (I will try to set up the map so it will deliberately will play very different in the two versions... it will be interesting to see how the different versions will compare)

After that there will be two seperate competitions.. possibly start a vanilla game every 2 months, and a warlords game also every 2 months, but staggered so there is a new game starting and ending roughly every month (players who have a lot of time on their hands would be able to play in both competitions if they wish)

Any huge objections?

I didnt see any objections to his idea, so I assume that's where he's heading toward right now. If that's the case, then us Geezers may want to hang back on the old technology ;) Since I may be the only one who's got Warlords among us right now.
