SGOTM 02 - Team CFR

Don't forget we get plenty of research from scientists (and with Academy!) under castes. Also 800 coins is a hefty startup. Also we can trade for cash smaller techs with Currency-owners... when they get more currency

Edit: found cities ASAP. At least 1 more settler is required.

Now we have only +10 at 0% research rate. May be to us necessary wait a little with found new cities!
That is perfectly fine. We'll get CS in time anyway. Our research will be OK once our cities regrow after whipping.

My easy program:
We must maximize commerce and production!

Research – Alphabet at 100% (4 turns), then Civil service at 0%.
Trade with AIs, i think necessary upload intermediate save!

Cities We continue in the same spirit!
Here a unique question: found additional cities at once or later?

Warfare – next turn destroy Spain (may be lost 1 sword)
That sounds good. And don't hesitate to use the whip, the faster we build all the things we need, the faster we switch to CS.

So they start bringing money ASAP :D

We need them up and ready to pump fleet very soon, don't forget.

I'm too occupied with GOTM9 now, can't give well-analysed advice. Maybe tomorrow. We're in no rush here :)

I think that the bottleneck for us now is production, not commerce. Switch Kyoto to a settler, we will get CS on time anyway. Even if we get there, say 5 turns later, but with say 20% higher production, it is fine. Also the sooner we build those cities, the sooner they will grow and the sooner they will build infrastructure and become actually usefull! Actually I don't think that limiting expansion can be justified in a military game at all. In a research game - may be, but still not in the beginning.

"But not hurry!" (c) Dynamic :D

First part my session:
Premove:
Osaka: Switch to forge
Cordoba: forest changed to sea on 4 turns.

[1] We have constructed a Forge in Kyoto. Work has now begun on The Parthenon.
We have constructed a Granary in Madrid. Work has now begun on a Forge.
The Parthenon has been built in a far away land!
Caravel seen border of last unknown nation!
Axeman attack scout,
3 swords attack Sevilla (one defeated).
We have captured Seville!!!
The Spanish Civilization has been destroyed!!!
Kyoto can no longer work on The Parthenon. Kyoto has now begun on Explorer.

[2]Satsuma has been founded. Work has now begun on Working boat.
The borders of Barcelona have expanded!
Christianity has been founded in a distant land!
Last unknown is Chinese Mao Zedong!

[3]Madrid rice changed on sea at 1 turn.

[4]Taoism has been founded in Gao!
We have discovered Alphabet!
Musa suggested to change MC on CoL. While decline.

Analyze it! ;)
Maintenance with Satsuma is 50(+11!!!) .

We can trade for CoL, Calendar and Currency - great! :goodjob:

The cities should be settled ASAP though even if they cost 10-15 gold. We are at 110AD now. Our 4th GS and Astronomy is expected to come at 800AD. So we have almost 50 turns to research a single tech. And we already have more then 700 gold in the treasury. At this point we don't need to worry about research at all! Even if our gpt becomes negative for a while. In other words we should invest money into expansion, not technology now.

The new city will soon start paying for itself. Just take the worker that is mining a hill near Edo (useless, since it is better to work cottages for now and we'll switch to CS and use scientists soon) and go chop Satsuma a workboat. Then whip/chop granary, forge, lighthouse, court. This can be done quickly and it will pay off. the same with the second city - fish, sheep and lots of forest to speed up its developement. I think we need that one. Actualy I can agree on a compromise decision: don't settle the 3rd city (southern, fish and iron), but settle the other one on the west coast.

As for the trading itself, I see that Alphabet and compass are monopolies while MC is not (Huyana knows it too), so I would suggest to distribute MC around. This should be able to get us all the techs we need (Calendar, CoL, Monarchy, Currency) and some gold. Trade it for more expensive techs first, since it will loose value as more civs know it. And don't trade for Meditation or Theocracy! Also, don't switch to CS yet.

I'm not sure on MC, I'd rather trade Compass. MC leads to Machinery and we plan to rush with melee units... In my test AI are willing to trade all 4 of techs important to us when we monopolize Compass, even proposing some extras - and right, don't take Meditaton! Of cource, once we trade it with one, it's value will decrease, so we need to trade for the most important techs first and might have give some extras away in the end (small techs/gold).
I'd go for the following trade order:
1. Musa - CoL
2. Hatty or Kublai - Calendar
3. Mao or Capac - Currency
4. Some of remaining - Monarchy

Here we risk not to get Currency or pay much for it, but it is not a Mainstream tech.

Don't forget when you turn on castes put 1 artist in small-border cities to get new resources fast (e.g. fish in Cordoba). I'd raher mot do it for MAdrid to keep genetics pure, and it has enough food in 1-tile radius.

If we start trade with MC we may get all accessible techs (and Meditation too :D). Compass remain in a stock in this case!

Also, don't switch to CS yet.
It is better to freeze researches of CS during last moment.

First - CoL, then Currency! We need it even if we will pay some money for it. Currency lets us +10 gold per turn and ability of trading gold. Next Calendar and Monarchy. All other tech we can trade next turn for Currency and Calendar (because not all AI have it). Of Course, we must not trade Meditation nd Teology!

A couple of suggestions:

-Build Barracks in Kyoto first, before explorers etc?
-Edo is working a plans hill mine - switch temporarily to farm or cottage to grow the population necessary for 3rd/4th scientist in time for Castes?

I, too, wouldn't help the AIs along their way to macemen/crossbowmen by trading Metal Casting.
