SGOTM 04 - Geezers

Geezers won the Silver Laurels in SGOTM1. markh, Sam and The Hawk were on that team, but I didn't join until SGOTM2.

Yes, in SGOTM01 we had the earliest diplomatic victory which got us the silver laurel.

Seems like only 2 teams got Gandhi to the stars and no other team will follow. The variant stays very tough. I thought the CIV-AI would do better than the Civ3-AI. When will Civ5 come out for the next try on this ?????? :D

Misery loves company. Still at least we stuck it out to the bitter end.

I really thought that this SG would do CRC/CFR no favours but I've been proved wrong again. Looks like we just have to become more expert at using Worldbuilder and playing test games. ;) Better strategic decisions would probably help as well. :D

From what I remember, the teams that have done well in most of these SGs were the ones that bumped off most of the AI. Somewhat depressing for game play if true. :(

We weren't really to know how useless Gandhi was going to be. It seems to have been more a case of slowing everyone else down rather than speeding Gandhi up, although I still haven't worked out how one team managed to get Gandhi to tech to space in the 19th century. I'm sure even if our Gandhi had had two continents, he would have still spammed battleships instead of SS casings.

Yahoooooo
It is over :p.

I am not going to play another SGOTM untill I get a new computer. Several times during this SGOTM I left my computer running most of the night until the graphic problem resolve itself instead of just shutting down the computer and picking up from the autosave as I do with my GOTM. So good luck to Team Geezers next outting. I may be able to acquire one by xmas but we are in the planning process of moving to east coast from west coast. Anyways :thanx: for allowing me to be a part.

Sorry to hear that, Htadus. It was a pleasure having you on the team. :hatsoff: If you are interested maybe you can sign up as a dedicated lurker and state your opinions from time to time like The-Hawk did this game.

Harbourboy

We just destroyed all Gandhi's oil wells and uranium mines with our fighters, thus he couldn't build his modern military like battleships and jet fighters. Actually, he was still building military (but not so strong units as modern would have been), but simultaneously with SS parts. And another thing is that we were way ahead in power over him, and we easily could have destoryed him in 20+ Turns - but thanks to AlanH he survived ;)

Thanks for the update Morcar. :)

Sorry to hear this although I understand your reasons. Hopefully we'll see you in the future. Perhaps as lurker as mark suggested?

Look at how crappily composed my avatar is and you'll soon see why you don't want me designing anything artistic that is going to sit next to your name......

You need someone like whoever did Dianthus's avatar.

We could have Grampa Simpson or, maybe his buddy from the resthome (the guy with the beard) or maybe those old hecklers from the Muppets.

The muppet hecklers would be my vote ;)
of course, I'm not sure how much my vote counts...probably less than 2 cents :p

If we all had Waldorf and Stadler based avatars for the Geezers, it would be pretty cool. Shame none of us can be bothered doing it. Who can we badger into doing it for us?

We have five confirmed members. How many more do we need to be a viable team? Do we care who else out of the 21 orphan players is assigned to us?

Given that everyone tends to have RL issues at times we could really do with six members. IIRC Geezers has not normally had more than six members in the past so we probably only need one more team member.

To date the team members assigned to Geezers have fit in quite well. The original team was assembled at random by AlanH anyway (SGOTM01).

How would you guys feel about taking on a complete newcomer to SGOTM in your next outing?
If you remember, I was the guilty lurker who was following your exploits during the previous SGOTM. I also kept up to date with you this time around - until a mass of RL busy-ness took me away from CIV completely for almost 2 months. I even had to give the GOTMs and WOTMs a miss.
Thankfully, that RL stuff is now coming to an end, and I can come back here as much as I used to.
I'm basically a Monarch-level player (or I was, until my enforced break!) - though that depends a lot on map-type. I've got vanilla CIV and Warlords, and a PC which was quite fast a couple of years ago. Anyway, it runs Warlords without too many probs.
So . . . what do you say, Geezers? I'm sure I would have to learn a lot of the mechanisms of SGOTM, and the etiquette of the spoilers - but I'm up for that!
I also promise not to sulk too much if you say that you have 2 or 3 folks higher up the waiting list than me, and could I wait til next time.
