SGOTM 06 - Trash Team

Or to put it another way, stopped my set on discovering printing press.

At the start of the set we were getting 169bpt.

Didn't whip a lot.

Built a couple more cities (on the ruins of Mansa's):

Djenne is building Forbidden Palace, should complete next set.

Cyrus landed a stack. I didn't notice it until London came under attack:smoke: . The stack this time consisted of 4 rifles, 3 grens and 2 cannon. I lost a LB, a cat, 2 grens and 3 knights before the stack was gone.

We've popped a Great Engineer who's resting in London. He'd bulb about a quarter of steel. We're still a long way from corporation for wall street but there may be other national wonders worth considering (we're still quite a way from Oxford as well).

Economy has improved slightly:

But there's plentyof scope for improvement.

Had a couple more fishes pillaged by Alex's two triremes.

Tactically it might be worth going for steel for cannon. Build pinch knights for grens and cannon, pinch grens for rifles, and build cannon in case the stacks don't disperse.

One day I'll figure out how to copy the save  .

We could perhaps pick up meditation for some monasteries.

OK ... as always, good stuff. :)

I know I'm up but can't play until my/Chopster's Friday, everyone else's Thursday.

If anyone can't wait two days, please feel free to cut in. Otherwise, I'll take it.

Pigswill - to copy the save ...

Go to the Progress and Results Page

Right-mouse click over our last save, and "Copy shortcut"

Paste the URL as per the following syntax;

The save

so it comes out like;

Good stuff, keep on growing!

Roster
- Remconius (UP)
- chopster
- cabert
- stuge
- patagonia
- pigswill
- Cam_H (on deck for Friday)

I'll get it now and play today/tomorrow. So that Cam can play Friday evening (your saturday morning?)

Now that's some economic improvement. Let's keep it up.

How bad is emancipation unhappiness? Should we go for democracy after steel?

We can see where Alex is lurking in Pigs' two more cities screenshot. Perhaps we should grab astro after all and pay him a visit. Astro would also allow observatories.

Is it worth (as a long shot) going for an internet beeline?

Doesnt look I'll be able to play tonight or tomorrow....
so I'll play after Cam

Is it worth (as a long shot) going for an internet beeline?
I've been playing a fair few OCC games recently and it's worth noting that the internet beeline is pretty deep. We'll definitely want to pick up Democracy before embarking on one if that's what the team opts for, since double cottage growth and removing emancipation unhappiness will be a significant factor. Communism for SP (and therefore Liberalism for FS) is also crucial IMO.

The main things in favour of such an approach are that it takes in Combustion, Assembly Line and Industrialism, which will force us to military tech parity with the AI en route. I'd go for Combustion prior to the other two since a decent navy will make everything else redundant, especially as our only relevant rivals seem to be focusing on our most developed coast, which means far less ocean to defend effectively.

Were this BtS, I'd say the AI would definitely build the internet before we got there, but pre-BtS AI always leaves it to the human so speed of reaching computers isn't such an issue.

This is great after several days of waiting ... I can't get the game to load. :(

I'll have to skip. Sorry. :undecide:

Just got back, from a heavy weekend out.

The coming week looks busy with month close coming up. Game time seems unlikely. Please skip me this time.

Roster
- Remconius (skip)
- chopster (UP)
- cabert (on deck)

Ok, we'll see how this week pans out with regards to game time for me also.
I should be able to get a turnset in some time this week!

Will grab the save and have a look as soon as I can, then report back for status and plans.

Will be at least 24 hours before I can grab the save and play a turnset, so if someone wants to jump in before me that's fine with me.

At this stage I'll "get it" tomorrow evening, with a view to playing Friday night or Saturday morning - therefore within 48 hours of the got it.

I am still buried here under a giant pile of work, RL things and undefined items.

Still keeping an eye on the thread and looking forward to an improbable victory.

Real life strikes again! Turns out I have to fly interstate sooner than I thought.

MAY be able to play in the next 24, but if not will have to request a skip/swap.

Here's hoping I can get a session in the morning!

EDIT: on the game front, am I to assume we are going to head towards Steel for Cannon as suggested, while focusing on economic improvement?

What are the teams thoughts on bulbing the GE? Does someone have a better suggested use for him?

OK, this now becomes a "got it" post.

How many new cities do we want on the "city" flags? Each new city looks to be around 12 gpt in maintenance - how long before that can be paid off?

Planning to keep building income / research generating buildings with a few military units in selected cities.

I'm in favour of bulbing for steel. At the moment short term catch up is more important than long term considerations.

In terms of new cities it may be worth waiting for Forbidden Palace to complete and see if that makes a significant difference to maintenance costs.
