SGOTM 06 - Trash Team

I still think we should finish the game rather than resign - it's in the spirit of the "competition" to complete.

I'd be happy to play a large turnset of trying to secure a loss ASAP - that would sure put an interesting spin on the game!

I've got no objections to anyone doing that.

I do, however, have painful memories of just how difficult it was trying to get Gandhi to capture our defenseless cities in the last SGOTM, so would rather it wasn't me to do the dirty work.

The best tactic will probably be to delete our remaining military and whip everywhere down to size 1 by building workers which can be used to lure AI units adjacent to our cities in the hope that they'll capture them.

well then, that sounds to me like pigswill gets first shot at trying to bring the house down.

Looking forward to this turnset report!

Got it.

Played a turn. Deleted all units. All cities working citizens only. Whipped loads of workers. Power and score are falling quickly.

Played 20 turns. Lost 5 cities. Strings of workers to entice Cyrus seems to be working albeit slowly. Got a stack of workers waiting to be laid down for future bait lines.

Onwards to Victory

Cam are you able to play tonight?

Oh hi!

Not tonight ... but within two days ... unless I still have computer problems.

I've just started a roleplay challenge in case anyone just can't get enough of Churchill.

[Edit] Apologies again ... :badcomp: Nope - no good - the save still fails to load on my machine. Over to you Remco. [/Edit]

Chopster,

The game crashed at the end of the first turn on one of my turnsets twice in a row ("Windows has encountered a problem with Civilization IV - Warlords ..."), and 'debug' didn't fix whatever was the problem.

I decided to re-install Warlords and the HoF mod. I also manually deleted some of the hang-over directories.

Now the HoF mod locks me out - sorry, I can't recall the exact wording of the first of the two part message (can't check as I'm up in Berri while the game's in Adelaide), but the second is "Game failed to load".

Under normal circumstances I would consider installing the game on my work computer and playing it from here, but given our recent 'change in strategy', I figured that the rest of the team wouldn't be overly concerned about who would Kamikaze it.

Yeah, I hope it didn't sound like I was concerned with you missing a set, more concerned with you not being able to enjoy the game we all love.

Remconius, you keen on playing a set of "kill me quickly"?

Thanks for your concern! :) It plays a standard game of Warlords alright. I'm 99% sure it just doesn't like this particular game because I re-installed mid-contest.

Its been a week and a half since I posted my set. I suspect that in real terms this game is a dead duck. No-one appears committed to completing it so let's just resign and forget the wooden spoon. (Or a couple of people volunteer to play a set in the next couple of days).

Here's the 1895 save. Thought I'd leave it for someone else to put this to bed.

I'd forgotten how inept the AI is at capturing cities or protracted war.
Saladin finally landed a handful of tanks next to Coventry and the number of Persian units is slowly increasing. Cyrus has even got some fighters out to pillage all the improvements he's capturing from us. :sheesh:

At least he's getting plenty of workers to rebuild them.

We're down to 2 cities, Djenne which we should lose this turn, and Carthage which we could lose next turn if Cyrus decides to attack us with his tanks rather than cannon.

I'm happy to play some turns to finish this one off.
Will grab it and play tonight unless someone else wants in.

Hey guys,

Been off the air with work, travel and a long weekend with family.

My computer is also locking me out just like Cam after I reinstalled. Not sure how to fix that.

Perhaps someone can just pick up the game and die quickly?

Warlords is being silly on my lappy, so I can play tomorrow night when I'm home again if someone doesn't kill us off before then.

Whoever kills us off, remember to set autosave to every turn so you can upload the last one before our conquest defeat.

My last manual save was later than the last autosave.
Press enter to see us die!

So, we did it - we finished the game so we're eligible for the spoon.

Now I'm claiming the 500th post to say better luck next time to the Trash Team!

Now that we've submitted the loss, I'd guess we're free to try the game again either solo or as a team, or "trash style" as suggested earlier. I believe that as a team we could beat this game if we took a different approach.

Here's cheers to you all for your company on this journey!
