SGOTM 09 - Xteam

Had a look at the save and noticed a few things:

  • Sippar can be MM'ed to grow in two turns
  • Corinth has an ordinary citizen hired - change to scientist
  • We are loosing 375 gpt and have only 367 gold in the treasury. Our loss must be decreased to somewhere below 367 gpt or the science slider will be adjusted down automatically when pressing enter.

Please note that gold from overflow can't be used in the same turn it's generated. This means that if the gold deficit is greater than the contents of the treasury the game will automatically adjust the science slider down!! I think this may have happened during leif's turn set and that is why the slider was at 80% in the save.
You are correct about this. I just went back and checked the autosaves and the game, indeed, change the slider back to 80%. :hmm:

What I do not understand is why as I know I left a margin of safety before hitting enter? :crazyeye:
Wish I had tracked it more carefully so that we knew what the margin has become??
Should probably try to keep a small positive gpt if possible? ;)

In the current interim save, the Treasury stands at +367 while the expenses are at -375

One possibility is that you spread SE in a city after checking and since spreading the coporation consumes gold the treasury may have decreased to somewhere below the gpt loss. If you were unaware or forgot about the gold spent in spreading a corp that could easily lead to such a mistake.

Its possible. I was getting tired.
What I was doing was spreading Corps first thing to make sure I didn't do something like that. I can't remember if I found an Exec late and ... :rolleyes:

"CP, are you on top of making sure that chops go to the right cities? This is relevant in all places where cities have overlapping FC's. The way to make sure a chop goes to a certain city is to work the tile. It may be enough to make the tile available (defogged) in the city screen. Perhaps SCT knows? " I'm planning on working the tile, at least during the chop.

Had a look at the save and noticed a few things:

  • Sippar can be MM'ed to grow in two turns Sorry you had to repeat this. I actually noted and added it to my todo list last night after I posted.
  • Corinth has an ordinary citizen hired - change to scientist I'll check on it before proceding.

Oops, forgot to readjust. Thanks.

Still looking for info on whether the recent workshop in Seoul was chopped and on Corinth chopping (or not -- can't figure out why SCT didn't prescribe it) and thus number of additional workers that would be needed. There are two workers in west Africa that leif obviously was preparing to move.

I didn't include that recently built workshop as one of the 13 forests to be chopped at Seoul. Chop 13 current forests.

Corinth can get an engine in 3 turns (just barely) without chopping by working its highest hammer tiles.

I'll look at it again carefully before I start play in about 15 hours, late Wed afternoon, and post if I can't see how it can be done.

Yes, it can. I saw turn 160 and mindlessly presumed I only had 2 turns to 162.

A couple of ways to get more workers to Seul:
  • Build workers in Korean cities (Not cities assigned for space parts though)
  • Build airport in Africa and airlift workers from there.
  • Airlift workers from Athens/Sparta and replace with workers galleon chained from Africa.

It shouldn't be tight. You only need 15 worker-turns to complete the workshops, prechops, and chops. With 11 workers in the area, you have 44 worker-turns to play with. You don't need to build any more workshops after the current 5.

Five workshops seem like a good number and will probably mean that the starvation is not critical. With more workshops we would have to figure out if starvation will reduce hammers too much.

Did have to restart and replay the game, but had been saving during turn and only had micromanging a few cities and workers to replicate. That was all dictated by the plan, so really didn't have to remember it. Leif, please notify administrators if appropriate.

No problems, but note that we had not considered how to thwart spy actions.

Also, I've shut the game down now and realize I forgot to check the Dom'n limit.

SGOTM09 REPORT ON TURNS 158 – 162

TURN

158 – Implemented posted suggestions, including getting treasury > expenses and assured myself that all prescribed chopping was possible

IBT – Vandal expands, causing barb revolt in eThekwin; Greek revolt in Taejon (Justinian’s city); para on hill W of Vandal is killed after taking out spear and 2 rifles; Satellites>Composites;

159 – Vandal falls, yielding 187 gold; thrusters started in Nippur and Oporto; SE corp in Namp’o; SE exec to Knossos; GM to Asoka’s capital; Hermitage switched to Akkad; manage workers and adjust treasury/expenses

IBT – Accept Justinian’s offer of wheat for oil; Composites>Genetics; gain 440 gold from aborted Hermitage builds

160 – More builds started as per plan, with hammers maximized; SE corp in Knossos; GM nets 1005 gold;

IBT – Genetics>Ecology; gain additional 184 gold from aborted Hermitage in Delphi(?); barb para appears in Atlantis (will leave him no place to land).

161 – Begin cockpit in Bab; manage cities and workers (seeing no problems now); upgrade units for possible attack on Atlantis

IBT – One spy caught near Machu Picchu, but another poisoned the water supply in Wonsan; Ecology>Artillery; Docking Bay completed in Sippar>Life Support; Golden Age ends

162 – Initiate new GA;

Note Justinian’s galleon is beached(?) NNW of Leira.

Cycle through cities to complete parts and find that a single chop is needed in both Athens and Sippar, but rest of parts will complete without chopping. See save – workers haven’t moved this turn. (What do you think, leif, would be appropriate penance for SCT, having arranged such unnecessary tedium as torture for us?)

SAVE: http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=221155&stc=1&d=1247726301

I’ll try and finish within 24 hours, but it may be a bit longer before I can get back to it. Confident I'll soon learn if I've missed something.

What happens after I press enter at the end of this turn? Does it take several turns for spaceship to reach its destination? When do I save and register game?

You get to mash enter for ... um... 8 turns on quick speed after launching? You'll get a little countdown on the top right of your screen once you launch, indicating the number of turns remaining. At this point we can still lose the SGOTM if our borders exceed the domination limit (BEWARE). The space mission is also aborted if our capital is lost, I suggest pulling back a few paratroopers just to assuage any paranoia about barb paratroopers.

You need to wait until after the victory screen and select the "just one more turn" option. You then create the final save for submission.

Hope that helped some.

Looks good CP! :goodjob:

If it matters, we can pick up another Iron from Justinian.

We are at 58.06% on domination limit, looks good.

Did you upload the correct save? The one I got is on turn 161 - 1680AD? Your log says turn 162? :crazyeye:

As far as I can see you can go on and build the space ship :goodjob:

Since I have never played a space game before I'm wondering if it might be necessary to open the victory screen and launch the spaceship by pushing a button? Or does it automatically launch when all the parts are there?

Each time a part is built, it takes you to the Spaceship screen automatically. After all of the parts are built, you need to click the LAUNCH button.
