SGOTM 16 - Misfit Gypsy Nuts

I was going to stop a few turns out but thought no real point. ;)

Save uploaded and another post with a few piccies to follow.
So our final date = 1872 AD (T306)

Looking forward to reading the other threads. Pretty safe to say we are a few centuries behind the best teams, but I'd be fascinated to read about any mishaps with reaching the conditions! :mischief:

Some Piccies

Spoiler :

Four turns to Future Tech1 and our legendary cities.

Lyons with four artists ready to bomb was home and dry hence merchants.

Was moving another Artist to Bibracte so knew we had enough GA's to culture bomb all cities on the last turn.

I had gifted both Ham and SB techs and gained a +1 with both for shared technological advances. Both still only pleased though so adopted both Enviro and Bureacracy to get them to friendly. Big hit to our finances though!!! So had to juggle finances a bit more.

Another one ticked off the list. No piccie of Humbaba but nothing to see anyway. :) We lost 1 unit. A level 4 Drill XBow I upgraded to an Infantry who made a big dent in what was left of Humbaba after being bombed.

Mmm cut a bit fine!!! As expected we needed both SBs and Hams votes. With just SB we would have been 9 short.

I'll take the blame for the couple of spies in the pictures. Only put there by the governor on the last turn though.. I think

Only other thing of note in the game was as expected Sal declared on Ham which I put a very quick stop to. Did lose a point with Ham late on but as we were +15 at the time was quite happy to refuse.

Save attached before the winning turn.

Yep least we get to read the other threads now (when allowed). Do we have to notify anyone that we have finished.

Hindsight is a big thing but think there is 1 or 2 things we could have done better early on. ;)

Well done though everyone. :goodjob:

Final Save.

Hi Alan,

Team Misfit Gypsy Nuts have completed and submitted our last save for SGOTM16. May we have your blessing to read other team threads?

Regards,

Adrian J
Well done :) Please go ahead and read the other threads. Please refrain from posting in the unfinished ones.

Nice going sleepless!:goodjob:

Congrats to everyone for the effort!

Time to read.

Good game and great thread

Just top make things official:

Objectives acheived: 10
Victory: Diplomatic & Culture t396/1872AD
Score: 95378

Nice game!:goodjob:

Well who was worried we would miss out on a award..

As long as there is a next one everybody still available to play?

I am sure KCD mean't turn 306. Don't be too down beat. Full culture was a harder task than domination.

I do like a good wooden spoon :D

@Gumbolt - interesting that you say Culture is harder than Domination. I do agree it can be technically harder, but domination seems much more hard work in real-time.

Consider this:

Time played:
  • Plastic Ducks - 70:28 (Diplo/Dom)
  • Kakumeika - 205:05 (Diplo/Dom)
  • Phoenix Rising - 70:18 (Diplo/Dom)
  • Unusual Suspects - 102:13 (Religious/Dom)
  • Fifth Element - 239:04 (Diplo/Dom)
  • The Shawshank Redemption - 238:30 (Diplo/Dom)
  • Maple Sporks 109:37 (Culture/Diplo)
  • XTeam - 100:17 (Religious/Dom)
  • Misfit Gypsy Nuts - 40:27 (Culture/Dom)

Actually, this doesn't really help me illustrate my point at all! Actually... see the edit below. Only that we probably earned our Wooden Spoon. I do know that in my single player games Culture goes much quicker, as there are far fewer units to move around and typically fewer cities to care about.

Edit:

In the Results thread:
A small correction, not that it matters much, but Maple Sporks won by Culture and Domination, not Diplomacy. Being nice to AIs is just not in us. ;)

So we were the only team that did not pursue Domination. Saving ourselves > 30 hours playing time.

We were the only team that did not pursue domination. So I've modified my earlier post.

I think the biggest factor in game time is whether you use the pause button or not. I myself will easily leave a game open idle for an hour to check things / handle some RL interruption, without pausing it, while others will pause... I think in that way I easily added a couple of hours to the Maple Sporks tally :p

Indeed. I do the same, DwarfSleepy. In fact I don't have a pause key on my keyboard at all!

I usually play slow with attention to every detail, not trusting the "wizard"-like features such as the governor. I often double check things too, especially for SGOTM. While I do try to use the pause button, I often find that a "quick" RL distraction stretches to hours and I do leave the game running overnight and occassionally forget to pause it. So I'm easily the largest contributor to Kakumeika's playing time tally.

Congratulations Misfit Gypsy Nuts on your Wooden Spoon award winning game!
