Lots of places in my scripts will still have the turn numbering problem, as the parser outputs turn numbers relative to 4000 BC. I've fixed it in the submission system, but is it *really* such a big deal?

Nope, not a big deal at all. Just thought it would be easy to fix and it helps for comparing team results after the competition is complete.

Thanks for the fix and thanks for running the tournament.

Just a reminder that more than 1/4 of the time alotted to this game has passed.

Is it time to review the timetable for this game? Without giving anything away about team strategies and plans, how do you feel about the current deadline?

I have heard from two teams who are suffering from real life pressures on their players, resulting in a reduction in the active player group. It may make it easier for those teams to stay in the game if we allow more time for turn sets, rather than having a deadline that forces one or two active players to try to keep to a schedule.

Thoughts?

Looking at the progress page FE is the 2nd most advanced team in terms of game turns. But at this point we can't foresee our finish date, as i suppose all the other teams. Our team too is suffering some RL problems, but i think we can count on at least 4 members which can play and discuss properly until the end.

Nonetheless, if some team are suffering RL problems, i think it's fair to give them a chance to finish the game. Re-reading the post opening this thread and the mapmaker's comment i guess tha game is set up for a long - hopefully not tedious - game.

We're only 9 teams, lose 2 or more for time problems will surely diminish the fun to win a medal. Let's give them what they ask for :king:

Misfit Gypsy Nuts have a good core of players up to this point. Compared to other teams we are progressing well in terms of turns played at least. Obviously without knowing what challenges lie ahead it seems we are on target.

However, if some teams are expecting the deadline to be a problem then I (and I believe I speak for the whole team) don't mind if it is extended.

I suspect PR will be glad of any deadline extension. We would hate to rush the rest of the game.

Plastic Ducks will do their best to meet the original deadline.

However I'm not opposed to an extension so that all teams are allowed to finish :hatsoff:
Still, maybe wait until 50% of the timeline is completed to make a decision?

Sounds reasonable. Maybe in roughly 10 days' time send out PMs to the team captains and ask for them to vote privately (after having consulted with their respective teams, of course), as was done in the past.

As a representative of the only team that seems to go lightning fast (though I'd rather call it at a steady pace), I must say that while the friendliness of the competition is of paramount importance and as such I won't object to an extension, I also think that talking about an extension is premature. We're not even half way yet and I do think and hope that a deadline gives teams the urge to speed up a bit. I'm sympathetic to RL issues, but I think it's better to evaluate towards the end of May when there's about a month left and decide then about a possible extension.

The reason that I do not think it is premature to be asking now is that if we are committed in principle to allowing an extension (we can determine how much of an extension is warranted at some later date) it will affect the turnsets that are occuring now.

As Alan noted, some teams are presently having difficulty getting enough players to take turnsets due to temporary RL issues. Their options at this point are to (a) Put game on hold (or slow-motion) and hope to be able to finish on time, (b) Continue with only 1 or 2 active players, or (c) retire.

Option (a) is unappealing if there is no certainty that an extension will be possible. Option (b) is judged unappropriate for a team competition. Option (c) would be disappointing for all participants.

Perhaps a merger could be arranged, but that would be sub-optimal considering that players are expected to return.

At this point I am gladdened to note that there are no objections to an extension, so that option (a) seems viable. imho.

I think as long as there is the option of an extension that is fine. Maybe 10-30 days would be ample. See how the game develops. I would hate to see PR not finish due to time and team participation issues. Neither do I want to post a completed game where 2-3 players pretty much played it all out quickly to meet deadlines.

You may need to update your signature, Prof. Warmheart.

Spoiler :
Or you are thinking that with more time, at least one team might survive the evil game you created?

Spoiler :
I have no objection.

Plastic Ducks should be all done conquering the world in the next 5-6 turns, so either way is fine.

Spoiler :
5-6 turns? Just kidding. :D

No objections from me, speaking as an individual. The game should be fun and not a burden, we want more teams than less, RL is more important than Civ, and if one or two teams currently have just 2-3 active players, those players deserve some slack. :)

Speaking as individual, I agree!:agree:
