SGOTM 18 - Kakumeika

Here's my thought. After Currency, Aesth, Lit. I would hope that we finally research towards Civil Service. That means we need to have gotten math + CoL. If Mansa goes for construction or Monarchy or MetalC, or other (Theo?) then we will have to get CoL ourselves instead of trade for it. We will need Priesthood for that.

also temples some day.

So I'm thinking take PH while it's free.

I'm thinking like you, take Priesthood if it's free, but there's no logical reason for it, as Currency unlocks CoL aswell, while we want to get Monarchy through trade. I also cannot remember the last time I built a tmple, oh yes, I can, it was 2 years ago when I started playing CIV and played a Super-Shrine-approach on a Huge map, and yes, it was exactly 1 Temple in the Capital to generate a Great Priest for the Shrine.

In all seriousness, do you guys really build Temples in other than Culture-games? It's very likely that we'll get the Silver + Gems, Furst are also not far away, and we even have Dyes before the front door, WTH should we build Temples?

Regarding self-teching Priesthood, I still think it's not worth it, we can sell it to 2 Civs at most which would give us 200 gold at most. Now as I say that, I realize that it's more than expected, but it's actually only a 2:1 trade as we'd have to invest 100 beakers ourselves.

I'm still for skipping it completely.

Will read progression-post now.

Regarding the screen you posted: Is it possible, that that Railroad goes through the lake and over the mountain so that it'd allow connecting the elephants towards one of our cities really easy?

[EDIT]

You wrote so. Thinking again, I'm guessing that that railroad and the Elephants are somehow connected with the city of Goldmember in the south, I have no idea though how that should be possible.

Is Mansa in war with GK now? Didn't find anything about you having bribed him, only that Mansa is GKs WE again. It's important that we get him in wars with GK asap because it also permits Mansa to trade Alpha to anyone else, so we take that chance as long as it's still there. Priesthood or not doesn't matter.

Mansa was bribed into war (no PH)

You're forgetting No Brokering again. He can't trade Alpha.

You also forgot the #1 reason for temples: +2 hammers from the AP.

Off to bed. Should be able to finish tomorrow. Need approval on Dr. Evil peace. I don't see a downside. We can sell him PH too!

...and should Shark whip anything? wb? archer?

That's what I didn't find in the progression post Wastin, I know we're playing without tech-brokering, so I wanted to make sure that Mansa would not be able to trade Alpha to Gandhi by trading him the rest of it.

AP-temples are a valid reason to build temples. Could also be, that AP will be available really early in this game, if Mansa i. e. got a Great Prophet next, he could bulb it.

Regarding Dr. Evil, I think we should not conduct peace earlier than needed. Writing will let him open Borders with various Civs, which will enhance his Commerce, atm. he's teching ultra-slow probably because of Swinger Pad causing a funny amount of maintenance, especiall with running PS on top.

Regarding the Archer, I'm still for Capitalist building it, and Shark whippen the WB and starting on a Granary or Worker.

Could you btw. plz upload the savegame? I want to take a look at it. There's a reason for that railroad going through the lake, and it's connecting the Elephants to somehow. They are at least exactly where Goldmembers and our city is, but I don't know how it's possible to connect something from the very N to the very S. I'm sure Culture has something to do with it, but test-game is non-tororidal / cylindrical, so I want to look at the real game.

I'm also wondering for what the dyes are for, I'm sure those were put there (and at the entrance of our empire) too, but associating things with them doesn't get me far.

Tia and good sleep.

S.

I'd say whip the workboat, work the copper tile at Size 1.
Then on turn 40, we can build the archer next. If there is any danger at all from the sea, working the copper tile instead of the fish for 1 additional turn will get the archer done just in time to save the city.
Otherwise, working the Fish for 4 turns will get us back to Size 2 and the archer will complete on T42 instead of T41.

We really need a worker to improve the bronze.
Maybe we can 2 pop whip one in the capital after the granary is done and we grow a bit there. =/

Ya, Goldmember got 500:culture: in a city it looks like. Gandhi already has a city that big.

Peace with Dr Evil? Everyone likes him. If we DOW him to take Swinger's Pad 100 turns from now, it could result in some -1 diplo hits. :hmm:
If everyone is worried about Impi's attacking us from Swinger's Pad, I suppose we could make peace with him now.

No, take the peace later, when the Impis are there! Conducting peace now, could lead into Evil dowing us again, and being able to attack immediately then too! Afaik, it's not more difficult to get peace when an AI is threatening a city, than it does without AI doing so, so peace later has the clear advantage of giving us more time to rex and build up. Impis can walk 2 tiles, so we'll simply have to pay attention to the log (or the terrain) , as we'll be able to notice Evil even before he's able to even move into the position where he could threaten that city.

Nobody (except GK) reallys like Dr. Evil-- all cautious rt now. Hopefully we can get him in a different religion. I think peace is wise. Evil barely knows where we are and we are not a very good land target for him.

Sorry about not uploading. I thought of that when I woke up this morning. Uploaded.

wait, so you want to build the workboat, but NOT work the fish? :crazyeye:

Once it gets improved, sure I want to work the fish :D

But during T39, when the whipping occurs, it won't be improved. So I want to work the copper tile so the archer can get out 2 turns faster.

Good work with the cease fire with Genghis Khan. Hopefully we can steal another worker from him again soon :)

I think I get what you're proposing. So you're saying you want to build the archer with the overflow from wb. I'm not sure we've all agreed on that. I agree with those that say there is little chance of a landing party. I think a galley, not just for defense, but to also explore, is good. Or a granary.

i'm gonna make peace and whip wb. i'll end my ts b4 commiting to the next build

playing and finishing in 4 hours

Dr Evil takes peace plus only writing (no fishing)
Pig traded to Mansa

T40:
Fish netted and traded to Joao ( we can always cancel Wheat if we need to soon). All trades will be up for re-negotiation once we have currency.

I'm going to stop the TS for the next player. Unless no one is around, I can play if we are sure what we want to build in Shark.

Shaguar hasn't moved and I don't think he should. The worker should show up soon.

T41
Mansa : Monarchy(8) Screwed again  I can think of a couple things that would be better than monarchy.
Gandhi gets Priesthood :( So much for selling that to him.

T42:
Mansa : Monarchy (6)
GK Archer noted...here's your sign.

I failed to report (or notice until now) that GK's borders expanded. That means he has copper in range. Which then means the worker might road towards it. Which means Shaguar should move 1N to be ready for the worker to show up in one of those two un-roaded tiles.

I did however point out the Goldmember border pop. This will allow him to see our empty city. I've not looked at the code, but in my experience, the AI loves to move on an empty city. I'm not sure if it's the same in our case because we are not accessible on land. My point is. An archer is only 2 turns away, so we could just finish that.

If both of these are all agreed to, then there's no reason why I wouldn't just play on at least one-tow more turns. This would allow the next TS to go until the end of Currency.

I'll get started on the test game.
