[BTS] SGOTM 26 - Home Slices

If we could get Peter started on astronomy now, GS on T156 might be perfect for his calculations on bulbing Astro to completion.

I’m not convinced an AI will even partially bulb a big tech like astro.
It's not much different than bulbing Edu, and I'm almost positive they do that.

The military situation remains a bit murky.
Everyone will move towards Cahokia this turn, even the injured Muskets.
The Catapult will hit the Scout and the Chariot will kill it.

We have the option to hit Cahokia hard on T151 or Mound City T152 after a bombard.
If our 2 reinforcement Muskets unload 1S of Cahokia T150 to prepare a big attack, a Longbow would cause them to attack Mound City T153.

Hmm, I'll have the Trireme inch south this turn, then take a peek at Mound City on T150.
That should clarify things.

Cahokia T150
Let's just ignore this option. Even with archers, it's 60% plus hill. And isn't he likely to upgrade first in his capital? Not sure on that.
Let's go with Bombard, flat land, 40% or less defense. If/when there are longbows, can't we just finish those cities by going to 0% defense with our cat? Looks like no walls yet.

I know I've had success with HorseArchers vs longbows (probably with suicide cats). Muskets with Cover should be fine.

When can our heroes from the 1st battle be healed and attack Mound City?
Should we make a suicide cat? or many of them? Make our 11 muskets erase 5 AI from the planet.
Or would CR2 Trebs have a better survival rate? Over 50% if non-hill city.

Moscow might birth a Great Scientist on T156.
Do we know which of the GP births were in Moscow? Novgorod got the GS I recall, cus remember: there were no roads and it was walking to Moscow (for Academy) and we coerced him into builbing Philo for us :king:

I still like timing an attack on Cahokia with a 50% spy mission to revolt it.

Meantime pillage it to the stone age and abandon.

Take out his flatland cities that are 20% first, if any.

Our 80 beaker cushion was just a mirage.

We won't have +10%:science: from Monasteries T151, T152, or T153!

Science City can work scientists on the Wealth T151, but I don't see anymore beakers anywhere else.

I hate Build Research
As near as I can calculate, we drop from +520:science: down to +490:science: after we lose the Monasteries.
Just need a very tiny bit of build Research on the final turn and we should have T154 Sushi.

Even if we take Moscow to 0% defenses, with Longbows we face 15:strength: with 1-2 First Strikes
Taking it will be a bloodbath even with Cuirassiers.
Would probably need Airships to take it easily.

With the castle fully intact and Archers, we have 9.9:strength: Muskets vs. 9.9:strength: Archers? with 1-2 First Strikes

It is still tempting to me to attack Cahokia on T151 if there are 2 Archers and 1 Dog Soldier if we have 5 full hp muskets, 2 7/9 muskets, and 2 chariots

Cahokia only has 3 units now? That’s very tempting.

How do you get to 15 strength with 0% city defenses.

https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Longbowman_(Civ4)
+25% city defense
+25% if on a hill
+25% from a hill
+45% from City Garrison 1+2
+25% from fortify
14.7:strength:

Thanks to Totem Pole, all of them will start with City Garrison 2 and 4/5 xp.
One successful defense and they will promote again healing up half hp.

At least when they upgrade Archer -> Longbow, the 25% fortify is lost and has to build up again I think.
I don’t think Cahokia’s dog gets the castle defense against our chariot when the city’s in revolt, does it?
If the city is revolted, the defenses fall to 0%
Revolt City takes a whole lot of :espionage: points to do it even with 50% wait bonus.

We can probably blow up Walls faster, then have Catapult hammer down 60% defenses in chunks of -16%.
Defenses are gone after 4 bombards.
But then the outrageously strong Longbows still kill our Muskets in droves.

I might have some bad news for you.
Are you just counting 10%?
What about the +2 per monastery we get from Sankore? We lose that, rt?
Working 4 scientists in Science City on T151 (the Wealth turn) gets us from -81:science: RAW to -47:science: RAW

I guess I just need to grit my teeth and build about +50 Research once we have the trade mission in hand on T151.

I'll try and put up the final 6 turn PPP tomorrow early afternoon.

Even under ideal conditions, we will probably lose 2 Muskets taking Cahokia from Archers and Dog soldier.

Should we just commit to pillaging it to dirt, starving it a few pop, and just hitting flatland cities not defended by Longbows?

If we do this, should probably change our espionage to Chalemagne? and just keep our spy at home.

SB flatland lbs are also going to be formidable. Now that we have PP, I think our priorities are 1) 8XP unit for HE, 2) capturing Cahokia now if pos sible, 3) cleaning up SB, 4) harvesting musket XP for the New World.

Maces seem better than muskets. We’ll soon have iron.

Maybe the catapult should take 5t to get to 8xp. Build HE. (Harvest failgold too.) That’s my vote.

Wait! How much XP per catfight if we attack inside our borders? 2? That’s 3t to 9xp. Might be 4t if the scout needs 1t fortify to start getting healthy

How did he get +19:hammers: in a build?

If he ran that tundra forest 2w1N for capital instead of Novgorod, and ran scientist + engineer, that would be +7:hammers:
2.75 multiplier would be +19.
How do you see what tiles? or are you guessing to make it come out to 19?

11 base (+75%) = 19, so isn't that much more likely since he has cow, horse, +2 in the city tile, windmill, and several plains (farm/cottage).
Therefore: good chance no harbor.

So take the 1300?, cus a harbor would probably slip to 152 anyway -- with a switch to Tao.

1xp for catfight, 2 GG points I think.

Maces: not that much better, and 11 Muskets are waaay better than zero maces--which is what we have. Mace doesn't ignore walls/castle. 700:hammers: into maces? Doubling our unit and supply costs

Cahokia: we can gather and see if there is no longbow. remember the river crossing, so pile up units 1N--none on the turndra-1NE cus then they can board boats.

A worked coastal tile from the previous turn will have a little sailing ship icon
A worked mine or pasture will have smoke coming out of the chimney
A worked farm will have a glowing farmhouse
A worked forest will have a little icon on it

A worked cottage has no indication at all :dunno:
Perhaps Buffy lets you know the change in how many turns until Hamlet

I'm pretty sure the only hammer tiles Moscow is working is Cow (+2), City tile (+2), and tundra forest(+1). (so 1 Engineer +2)

Don't forget Harbor gets +100%:hammers: bonus for Peter
7:hammers: * 2.75 = 19:hammers:
