SGOTM6 - Xteam

I'm sure Gyathaar has no need for these numbers, but for those not doing their own calculations, assuming we add 63 cpt in 1345, as Gator reports, here's the statuts:

1390: 0 cptpt
1385: 25 cptpt, OR
1385: 53 cpt for 2 turns, then 0

My thoughts are to go strong for 2 more turns, then (assuming we can easily add at least 53 cpt each of the next 2 turns) make sure the treasury is in shape, adding more culture at Gyathaar's leisure and as the treasury allows.

PS - wrt this Bang, do we get to meet the cow beforehand? ;)

Didn't we eat the cow when we wrested it from the grasp of Japan way back when?

That's Douglas Adams, the late, well-known and much loved author and Macintosh fan, not me.

Thanks for the info Alan, I forget to check the submission page for the countdown clock to the end of the universe ;)

BTW, next 100K game we play we need to make sure there is a modded 60 shield land unit in the game. It was nice being able to to poprush 60 shields in the coastal cities at size 4 and only having to use 1 rifle. While our landlocked cities had to be size 5 to porush 60 shields, otherwise it took 2 rifles and did not matter whether the city was size 3 or 4.

@Gyathaar, let me know if you need me to post the Build List in another format. I started to use the color coded system after 2 turns of looking at the same cities over and over and realizing I was wasting time. I forgot to post my play order but here is a quick list.

1. Draft size 7 cities
2. Review the flagged cities (light blue)
3. Focus builds in size 3+ cities, trying to limit rushes to 1 rifle per build
4. If any rifles leftover, look at unis builds after partial poprushing in size 6 cities (without aqueducts)
5. Fix happiness last, because content cities at the start of the turn become unhappy after all the poprushing and drafting

But that was a rather ornery cow - the Japanese stole it from under our noses, and then flipped the town that was supposed to claim it, IIRC! Of course we got it back, but I'd like a bit more docile cow for the end-of-game celebration. :p

I have my own method of doing it using just the ingame stuff, so was not needed..

1345AD, turn 0:

since I want to finish all the rushing in the first 2 turns if possible, I switch ALL cities that will grow next turn to movable shields - except those that miss one of the 3 base culture builds, or is drafing.

in some cases switch around worked tiles so some cities can grow in 1.

end up at -450gpt

IBT:
France and Vikings sign peace

France will no longer give us 4gpt for furs

Carthage wants audiance.. they give WM and 1 gold for our WM

Cathedral: New Agedincum 2, Mountain Hideaway, This Land is Your Land, Bovine View, Deforestation, Rocky Lake, Let's Get Along, Blue Ice, On the Rocks, Squeeze 'em in, End of the Rainbow, Not Mine Either, Smith's Haven

Library: Over the Hill, Horse Thieves, Wool Envy, Lookout Point, Raisin Plantation, Squeezeville

Temple: Mordor, Desert Edge, Babwatch

1350AD, turn 1:

78476 culture, 2978cpt, 63 increase

after drafing I have 75 explorers, 16 cannons and 38 riflemen.. 1295 movable shields

Found 4th last town, 3rd last town

Rushed:

Temple (2): 4th last town, 3rd last town
Library (10): Summer Cottage, I'm Here, Deer Hunter, Leesburg, India Post, Thistles, Sandy Beach, wasted Wheat, Ape City, Desert edge
Cathedral (12): Not My Job, Too Late, World's best Venison, Suburban Sprawl, In and Around, Snug, Crowding Carthage, Cold Comfort, Beaver Outpost, Waiting for electrisity, Whale Watch, Freeze Dried,
Collusseum (2): Camulodunum 2, Brest

should be 74 cpt increase

I check my spreadsheets.. with 74cpt increase I will just need 27 cpt increase next turn to finish in 1385AD, so I dont bother switching cities that grow this turn from wealth.

IBT:

India and England sign MPP
another resource deal runs out with france.. they paid 21gpt, and can afford no gpt any more

America starts to build ToE

1355AD, turn 2:

81528 culture, 3052cpt, 74 increase

start with 78 explorers, 3 cannons and 31 riflemen

found 2nd last town, and The Final Town

Rushed:

Temple (2): 2nd last town, The Final Town
Library (6): San Diego Zoo, English Hill, West Orleans, Vegan, 3rd last tow, 4th last town
Cathedral (11): Straits, Microsoft, French Chateau, Crow's Rest, Silk and Water, Hilltop, Squeezeville, Fish, Ensasewka Mirror, Mountain Pass, "My Will"

this should be 55 cpt increase, so I wont bother rushing any more since this will put us way over 100k

I start to MM for taxmen and wealth.

I leave most drafing cities to draft to build our military just in case, and some cities get to grow for one turn before I make taxmen

I end up at -107gpt... may end up positive next turn.. still 2379gold in coffer.

IBT:
Babylon start ToE
England start ToE

1360AD, turn 3:

84635 culture, 3107cpt, 55 increase

With 0 cptpt we will end up with 100170 culture in 1385AD

I am going to just rush though the last few rounds since dont have to worry about the budget either

why are there automated workers? I didnt see them till now.. not that it matters thou anymore.

I cant be bothered to MM for gold since we have enough to stay positive for 20 turns with -113gpt

I do draft all cities and place the rifles in border towns.. plus make sure no cities riots

IBT:
Amerca and England sign MPP

Huh? several cities riots even if I made sure they were ok... oh well.. should be no problem

We finally get your first flipped town, as the old chinese city of Yangchow pledge allegiance to us.

1365AD, turn 4:

87742 culture, 3107cpt, no increase

disband the new rifle in Yangchong and poprush library there

ah.. now I know why the cities riotted.. I checked happyness before moving the drafted rifles out which acted as MP.

Machine is running really slow for some reason, so I reboot.

IBT:

Uh-oh.. It is the 4th last IBT.. and I suddenly get flashbacks to the 4th IBT of the game when barbs entered capital and stole all our gold.

The only difference is that it is not Barbarians this time.. its Babylonians that enter our cities and steal our gold

Babylon declares war on us :(

Babylon kill a conscript rifle and burns 2nd Last Town to the ground.. stealing 2 gold

Then they burn 3rd last town to the ground, stealing another 2 gold from us :(

They then burn Vegas and steal 2 more gold..

they capture a worker.. and that was all the action .. pfew!

YangChow complete Library

1370AD, turn 5:

Just 3 more turns to go.. just need to prevent Babylon from razing too many cities.

90840 culture.. 3098 cpt.. only lost 9 cpt.. will still reach 100134 culture in 1385AD

One good thing.. Babylon only has RoP with America and Vikings, and neither are our neighbours.. should be no proble holding out for 3 more turns hopefully.

I cannot bribe any AI into alliance vs babylon nor MPP :(

Babwatch is a lost cause.. since babylonian infantery blocks the roads there.. but it only makes 2cpt anyway.. they are going to have to pay dearly to take out the other 2cpt and 5cpt towns they can reach in the jungles thou...

I also send some slaves out into unroaded jungle to make they go after them and use up units

heh.. after this round drafting our military is average to england and vikings.. but still weak to babylon and america (strong vs rest)

use one rifle to rush temple in Yangchow

Press enter and hope for the best

IBT:

Babylon capture Babwatch for 2 gold as expected

loose 7 conscript rifles, and kill 2 cavs (and retreat a ton).. but Desert Edge is finally razed

kill 2 more cavs and an infantery and the defences hold with no losses at the other towns

babs took lots of worker baits, and prolly wasted halt their force chasing into jungle and deserts to get slaves.

YangChow complete temple

1375AD, turn 6:

93935 culture, 3095cpt, only lost 3 cpt this round.. currently schedlused to finish with 100125 culture...

Babs has to raze cities worth more than 40cpt each of the next two IBT for us to not win in 1385AD

IBT:

loose 12 rifles, but kill 14 various units.. loose no cities

1380AD, turn 7:

97030 culture, 3095cpt .. due to get 100125 culture in 1385AD

There is no way babylon can raze cities for 126cpt or more.... thou there is a good chance 'The Final Town' will fall in the last IBT

IBT:

babylonian ironclad kilsl a galleon

kill 3 cavs before The Final Town is captured by Babs

Squeezeville, Ape City and San Diego Zoo are attacked, but defenses hold....

AND:

XtVic.JPG

win with 100125 culture

Fireaxis score 9109, Jason 8326

The Save before win

The Save after win

[party] :cow: ;) [party]

Yay! That was fast, and a nail-biter to the end. :wow:
(What did I say about the AI attacking? :crazyeye: )

 Great job, everyone! :goodjob:

(Now I really must concentrate on some last-minute studying before picking up a 24 take-home exam later this afternoon. It won't be nearly as exciting as getting attacked by the Babs 4 turns from the end of the game....)

PS - what this with being told I'm using too many images in my post!?! I had to take out a banana in the first line, and couldn't close this line with the "hmm" expression.

Wow, that didn't take long to finish and you even got Willow's dreaded AI attack. I guess some of our last aggressive settling near BAB made them upset, or do you think it was a last ditch effort by the AI to stop us?

BTW, there shouldn't have been any workers on auto, unless I accidentally hit shift J versus ctrl J. But I know in Civ III trailing workers will follow the pack moved via ctrl J the turn before.

Great observation on why the cities riotted after checking, I didn't think about the MP effect causing the riots. I just thought that drafting and poprushing during the turn added to the unhappiness.

There was 3-4 workers that started to autochop some forests.. but no big deal.. I kept most of the workers fortified deep inside lands anyway :p

I dunno.. perhaps there was oil down in those deserts and jungle thay they wanted?

I was on the edge of my seat. You held your nerve very well, Gyathaar. Superb :goodjob:

Well done Xteam! We made it :D :D :D :D :D

After killing about 50 MIs and MAs per turn in LK87 this weekend that Babylonian attack didnt feel like a big deal :D

Can we start reading the other thread now, or?

Good question! I think so, but I'm an SGOTM newb, and wouldn't want to mislead. Actually, it's probably a bad thing for me if it's okay, given my impending exams. :( So an official okay should probably include a carve-out for anyone whose real-life obligations require them to be doing something else.... :p

Aren't we suppose to wait for our Final Spoiler to be posted. Seems unlikely that you would have to wait to read the spoiler, but be able to read the thread right away.

So do we all agree that Alan should volunteer to write our spoiler :mischief:

I've started to write something. I'll try to get it posted this evening.

Excellent work :goodjob:
When Gator handed off I thought we could stop with the nail-biting.
But Gyathaar found a way to make it interesting --> Poser :p  [pimp]
