SGOTM8 - Xteam

I just got home from accompanying my son's High School Band to a competition and I'm going to bed!

Please play a few more turns if you have time and I should have some time later today as it is Sunday at 1:10 AM my time.

Sounds like you're doing great Bluebox. It'll be hard to live up to!! ;) :)

Oh, I was speaking generally. Didn't meant you take over the game in a minute. :)

I was wondering these days what it could mean to communicate with people in the morning who are going to bed in a few hours.

What instrument is your son playing? :band:

OK, here's an update: :band:

In short: I razed Kagoshima, settled another town next to Edo and actually did a little bit of research towards RepParts. Still building up our forces. We haven't got strong enough for an effective invasion yet, but Cav production will be doubled in 2 turns.
[log]
1555AD: Rushing Cav in Edo. initiate Prop in Orebro.

1560AD: Rushing Rifleman in Edo. Investigating Kagoshima; found it defended by a rifle, a longbow.

1565AD: Prop over Orebro, rushing walls in Edo.

1570AD: Rushing Cav in Edo.

1575AD: Rushing cav in Edo. Rome as Electricity, JPN has learned Corporation. We still have that prebuilt going in Beijing which would do nicely as TOE.

JPN: CORP = 4240g
ROM: ELEC = CORP + 4740g

Turning on research for MED. Still doing 630g.

1580AD: Rushing Cav in Edo. DOW. Attacking Kagoshima:
vCav > eRifle: eRifle loses 3hp, vCav dies
vCav > Rifle: defeat.

Razing Kagoshima, getting 4 workers. Capturing another 2 workers and parking them uotside of Edo and defend them with the 2nd rifle and 3 cavs. The rest of the cavs are fortified in Edo.

IBT: eSamurai attacks Rifle, defeated, vSam defeats Rifle, vSam defeats Cav, 2 vRifles attack Cavs and make them retreat, capturing back their workers.

1585AD: Rushing Rifle in Edo, healing he 1hp Cavs. MED @50%.

IBT: JPN rallies eRifle, 3 vRifle, 3 vSam, vLongbow S of Edo.

1590AD:

vCav > eRifle: defeats rifle, losing 3hp, promoted
vCav > vRifle: defeats rifle, losing 2hp
vCav > vRifle: defeats rifle, losing 2hp
vCav > vRifle: retreats
vCav > vSam: defeats Sam, losing 2hp
vCav > vSam: defeats Sam, losing 0hp
vCav > vSam: dies

Rushing Cav in Edo.

IBT: Learning Medicine, SM in 5 turns. JPN reinforces with 3 vSam, vRifle, retreats 2 damaged units, lands a settler on the horsie island SW of Atlanta.

1595AD:

vCav > eRifle: dies, vrifle -1hp
vCav > eRifle: defeats rifle, losing 2hp
vCav > vSam: defeats Sam, losing 2hp, promoted
vCav > vSam: defeats Sam, losing 1hp

Rushing settler in Edo.

IBT: vSam attacks Edo, reinforcement 2 vRifles. JPN settles on horsie island.

1600AD: Founding D-Day 2SE of Edo, rushing walls, moving vRifle and 3 Cavs in.

vCav > vRifle: retreats, inflicting 1hp damage

rushing Cav in Edo.

Notes: The turn SM is learned the palace prebuilt in Beijing has to switched to TOE via the big picture. I suggest Replaceable Parts as the 1st tech.
VIKs still don't talk, maybe they are in AI agony. :( Orebro has flipped yet, I kept on trying propaganda. We can rush another settler in Edo in 4 turns.
[end log]

Shall I play on??

I know. For me it is getting a message on the board for you and the Capt to see when you wake up as my late night is your early morning. If I get one more click-itis, you'll be having breakfast before I get to bed!!

He plays a trombone. They were part of a competition last night that included 24 high school marching bands. It went from 1500 through 2345 hours. The bus finally got home around 0030 this morning. Time for some more

They gather again this afternoon for a band jamboree. My wife is going on that one though!! :crazyeye: :D

Are you planning to play some more today? I'm just trying to plan my day out a little bit. :mischief:

No one else has checked in, so I have no objection if you have the time. :goodjob: I'll try to pick it up this afternoon when you've satisfied you combat lust!!

:woohoo:
When I saw over 12k pageviews for this team, I wondered if something had happened. :p

I can play Wednesday afternoon at the earliest, and I would like a hand in this, now that it's more than giving and taking and propaganda and waiting for civs to talk. But no problem with Bluebox playing some more in the mean time.

We all know these, but:
Things not to forget :nono: :p :crazyeye:
1. Domination limit
2. Off-island towns (Obreo, Hakodate, and new settlement)
3. Capitols jumping
4. Cities flipping and losing units

Hi Willow! :wavey: Isn't it amazing what the flip of the RNG can do!!

I'll see how far Bluebox takes it and decide whether to play some or turn it over to you. :crazyeye:

@Bluebox, please post the 1600 AD save thru the submission system. I'd like to have a look sometime. And if you read this and have continued, the latest save or where you stopped is fine. :thanx:

Good job. Keep it up.

I'll have some time to check in but not much time for playing.

Please note that all of you except Nemesis have been signed up by proxy for SGOTM 9, and have not posted in the signup thread yourselves. I'm just making up the team lists and I shall assume this is what you all wish unless you tell me otherwise :)

I'm in. Got the comp in working order again.
I don't know why people hate me. Maybe it's my 4 mbps connection they're jealous of...

Hi! Just came home late from band rehearsal. Posted the save immediately. Sorry if it caused some comfusion. Actually, I wondered if it would be ok to play on if I uploaded the save myself.

I guess we have to get on with the game. I can play in the evenings during next week until Friday. Gator's on his conference, Willow stated to be able to play from Wednesday on. Maybe Leif and me can play a turnset until Willow takes over on Wednesday.

We are moving forward again, but I guess there are several tasks to achieve. Currently, the war's still in the counter-attack phase where several units arrive at Edo and D-Day [edit]each turn[/edit] that have to be pushed back. It would be great to settle another city by rushing a settler, maybe 2SW from Edo. Edo will grow to size three in 5 turns, so a settler could be rushed in 4 turns. We have an urgent need of cavs. JPN has currently 40 rifles and I guess we're losing some of our cavs on the way. Every new settlement would accelerate our capaign b/c we can rush more cavs.

The Japanese cities are to big and have too much culture to keep them. There will be severe riots and we won't be able to rush units until all rioters are gone. I think it's better to raze them all. forunately, the area around Edo is in part irrigated grassland, so these cities are growing fast.

Moreover, we need a peace deal with JPN to get their oversea settlements. Third there is Rome left. Currently they don't have any holdings that we cannot reach with our troops but there are still some outbound unsettled islands. We should get the Roman Campaign on its legs as soon as we feel we could bear it. Rome has a favor for Cavs, too.

Rep.Parts would allow us to use Infantry to defend our settlements. We can rush TOE with the prebuild in Beijing when SciMeth. is ready. You have to go through the big picture then.

Willow's checklist is a very good one, thanks for pointing out these issues again! We have to take care of these alltogether, whoever holds the mouse.

This is a lot of stuff to do. I really hope we can mangae to finish this on time.

Yep, I'm in.

It's a pity Nemesis isn't there anymore. Noone knows what has happened to him. In such cases, the virtual world is a very cruel one. People can just vanish without a trace. :(

I agree that the Japanese cities must be razed - there's no way we can keep them. (and that can help with preventing domination as well)

And infantry and artillery would be great. How close are we to Sci meth?

I don't see how a third town could hurt, as long as we're making enough gpt to build things in more than two towns (which I assume we still are), and as long as we can defend it.

I'm in also.

@AlanH - are you giving us another Xteamer to take Nemesis' place?

Xteam: bluebox, Capt Buttkick, DJMGator13, I. Larkin, leif erikson, WillowBrook. Playing Vanilla.

From the sign-up thread.

Welcome aboard Ivan. Nice addition to the team.

They did fairly well, thanks. They played very well but I'm afraid they need some marching drill. His band comes from 2 schools in the same town and they don't get to practice together except for once per week and they have many new members still. Next year they will be GREAT!! :mischief:

What instrument do you play Bluebox? :band:

I guess I'd better talk about the game. :hmm: I've got it and will push on this evening and see how far I get, but will not play more than 10 turns.:)

Roster:
Leif - up
Bluebox or Willow on deck
Capt. - Want another crack?
Gator - on Conference.
Nemesis - ?

Welcome I. Larkin!!:salute:

Hi Larkin! :) I like your name cos it reminds me of that British poet Philip Larkin.

@Willow: we're pretty well able to rush Cavs in 4 towns per turn. We currently have a net gain a few coins short of 1600gpt. We are 4 turns from SciMeth. and 4 turns from completing a palace prebuilt in Beijing. Whoever plays next should make sure to switch Beijing to something else in time, preferably the TOE. We still have a leader on the island between us and the JPN-ROM continent. But I find the collected shields should be used for something :)

Having re-checked in-game I saw we could also get SciMeth in 3 turns. Doesn't make a big difference though.

I'm the guy on the right side with the red thing.

Edit: actually, my forum name relates to this activity. The 'MXR Bluebox' is a very rare (and very awkward) effects pedal. I don't own one but I check on ebay from time to time
