King Crimson.

REO Speed Dealer has to be the greatest band name ever but unfortunately they aren't very good

Hopefully they're better than REO Speedwagon. :p

Group X, anyone heard of them? They do a kind of rap thing with funny lyrics.

I listen to them.

So, am I the only one who listens to X-Ray Spex?

Insane Clown Posse. I am not a rap lover but they are really fine and funny. Children of Bodom(Black and Power and Speed Metal synthesis)

Not a band, a singer. I cast Tom McRae as my vote for relative unknown.

Except by ME!

Now there's what I call an excellent pick :)

Mr Bungle.

Hard to describe their sound, since each of their three albums to date has been very different. The easiest way I can think of to give some idea of what they do is to say that they are very fond of taking disparate styles of music, from cocktail jazz to easy listening to hardcore punk and heavy metal and blending them together to create songs that defy easy classification. Fans of Faith No More should certainly check them out, since their vocalist is one Mike Patton. The same one that fronted FNM throughout the 90s.

Live tracks and songs from their old demos can be found on this site which, while not being operated by the band, is well known to and approved of by them (to the extent that it shares a server with Patton's own record label's site).

Marilyn Manson

Get past the makeup and media hoopla and actually take a look at his lyrics if you won't listen to his music. The guy is quite intelligent and articulate. Unlike so much music today, he has a message and it's a good one.

He also puts on one hell of a live show. :goodjob:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor

They’re Canucks and their music is a bit of a bizarre experience. Check it out, especially you Floppa.

I recommend you try listening to some of Glenn Branca's earlier works and also to Swans' Soundtracks For The Blind if GY!BE floats your boat.

Mannheim Steamroller. I know no one here listens to them (save for Padma), what with the response to a thread I had about them. :mischief:

Will do, Eklek :goodjob:

Miracle Legion a.k.a. Polaris (the band that did the music for the old tv show Pete & Pete). They're from Connecticut in the us but were accused of sounding too much like R.E.M. so later on they changed their name to Polaris. Then after Pete and Pete ended the band split up and the singer, Mark Mulcahy, went solo. They're pretty good, and i like the feeling of having a band of my own, so to speak, not that i wouldn't enjoy seeing somebody else who's heard of them and or likes them. Good thread cgannon

Yes. But I think their debut sucked. Disco Volante is a masterpiece. Chemical Marriage is ridiculous while on mushrooms.

I will nominate VOIVOD.
