Events
France disintegrates, Champagne, Il-de France, Brittany and Anjou formed.
With the death of King Francis I, the vacant throne of France fell into disrepute. The Count of Anjou and the Duke of Brittany declared indepencdence from the 'rotten French state', suing immediatley for peaceful relations with Spain and England. Champagne followed and actually echoes Burgundy's calls for entry into the Holy Roman Empire, even though it was ruled by a Calvinist. Finally, Il-de France was taken over by a military commander of the remnants of the French military and at the same time France was declared defunct. The pressures of the war with the majority of Europe, and the widely insane policies of the royal government in the final years led to the total failure of this once proud state.
Many people feel the idea of a France, and perhaps one day a united France will return to the continent, but this will be neither here or know due to the severity of this split. With the split, Spain and Savoy were able to advance far into Provence and regain much lost wealth, meanwhile England, a nation who actively supported the Protestant Bretons and Champagnions in their wish for independence had gained control over a large section of the former French Channel coastline.
After the final fall of France and the proclomation of the Duchy of Il-de France, Burgundy and Champagne were admitted to the Holy Roman Empire, however this was to act as a catalyst for the continued polarisation of relgions that the French rupture has caused.

HRE splits: Protestants elect Duke of Friesland as Emperor.
The Burgundinian and Champagion entry into the Holy Roman Empire acted as a catalyst towards the already polarising attitudes between protestants and Catholics enemating form the French rupture and collapse. In fact it was actually the Duke of Champagne that mooted the idea of declared the Duke of Friesland the Emperor of a 'Protestant Christian Empire'.
Over the course of several months this call grew as other Dukes and Counts of the Protestant ilk called upon Friesland to take a crown that, yet did not exist. However this ceased to matter as Swiss Gaurds moved into the Protestant lands intent to return their wayward Swiss brothers to the Confederacy. Within days of the messages reaching Nassau, Duke Federick of Friesland finally accepted the offers and was declared 'Emperor of the Protestant Christian Empire'.
This decleration gave the Catholics in Switzerland pause, and the Holy Roman Empire chose to first try and deal with the issues at hand by diplomacy rather than force, however as summer turned to fall, and then winter it has become apparent that this diplomatic route has failed and the Imperial forces themselves however is in disarray through the mass of desertions that they have suffered as Protestants flock to the new cause!

Hungarian people begin to question higher taxes with the lack of war with the Ottomans
Several years ago the Hungarian Empire levied extra taxes in peperation for a possible war with the Ottomans, however over the course of the last year, several sections of society has begun to question the need to continue these taxes with the absence of the forwarned war. The King has come under increasing pressure to explain himself for this seeminlgly 'robbery of the masses' as the term has been coined.

Japanese forces were put on war alert over the last year due to perceived increased tensions with some of its neighbours. This has had the effect of strenghting its naval branches as the constant drilling and sailing between Serebu in the south and Nippon in the north has caused their training to grow.

Ming soldiers were ordered to halt the advance northwards in the face of the rather stiff Mongol defense as of late began constructing a series of earthen and rudimentary wooden fortifications along the border in anticipation of greater funding to do a larger job of this. They however have also noticed an increase in Mongol activity and Chinese scouts sent into the Mongol lands have reported a growth of the Mongols to the west as well.
Antikethera established by Ayyutthaha in northern Madagascar Island begins 'Scramble for Madagascar'
The Ayyutthahaian King had decreed the establishment of Antikethera in Madagascar early in 1537 which was followed up by an expedition that established an outpost on the northern tip of the Island. This decree however was also heard in the courts of China, Persia, Oman and eventually Ethiopia through the trading routes, and a scramble for the new 'fabled isle' of Madgascar was seen to commence. By the end of 1538 all five powers owned colonies on the island, and the largest was the Persian one due to the sheer investment into the set up of the colony.

'Ironclad' ship idea proved unfeasible by Ayyutthahan science-guys.
An 'Iron-clad[ ship was tested near the waters of Bangkok in 1538, in an apparent attempt to build an 'indestructible' ship. The ship proved to heavy and promptly sank killing all sailors on board. The idea has been now shelved by the science-guys.
England established Rupert's Land
With the sucess of the New Eire penal colony the English crown has established a Penal colony in Henry's Bay (OTL Hudson's Bay) called Rupert's Land. This colony has seen some minor success and the furs being garnerd there have no equal in Western Europe and are rivaling those of Scandinavia and the new Russian territories to the east in Siberia. Futhermore sturdy wood is found in the region and some has been sent back to England for the nobility.

The Danish King has established a colony in the aptly-named 'Greenland' in an effort to gain more land and a more secure route to the colonies in the New World. Little did he know that this would put him in competition with the Ming. Within several months of the Danish establishment on the landmass, Chinese settlers arrived on express orders of the Ming Emperor to establish a colony in the Northern Atlantic Ocean.

Border skirmishes between English and Scottish troops in North America
There has been some minor border skirmishes between English troops from New York and New England and the Scottish troops from Jamesland in North America. This is more due to the lack of a defined border between the colonies and continued orders of the Royal Govenors of those lands to keep pushing for expansionism. There have been calls in London and Edingburgh to come to some sort of an agreement before general war breaks out.

The vast Ottoman army descended upon the Holy State of Greece, quickly destroying the Greek army as it tried to emulate the successes at Marathon of two millenia earlier. The Patriach of Constantinople was forced to flee, and him and his enterouage fled first to Austria, where they then crossed Poland to arrive in Moscow to beseech the Tsar to let him take refuge as a brother Orthodox. A vangaurd of citizen milita still fights on but the idea of an independent Greece has been soundly smashed for the time being.

Songhai signs territory exchange deal with the Mossi. Builds its first port - Port Asika.
The Empire of Songhai has completed the vassa, and land transfer deal with the Mossi, allowing it several new agricultural precints. Port Asika has also been built on the Trading coast of West Africa, and the Songhai economy has boombed. Finally the capture of Portugese weapons sold by the Senegalese to the people and Emperor of Songhai along with the steady stream of information coming from the merchants in the English colony of the Gold Coast built on the ruins of Benin-Ovo to the south ha begun to pick up Songhailian education values.

The King of Congo found out just how anti-African the European countries were this turn, as they invaded and conquered his small but begining to thrive nation. Through trade the Gaelic Free States managed to trade dodgy weapons that would cause more harm to the Congolese themselves and little trinkets for goods of real value. Then the news of the Dutch landings along the coast launched the Gaelic Free States into action and the northern provinces newly conquerd in the KIng's name had fallen... The Dutch had then captured the capital causing the King to flee... The coup de grace occured with the Polish landings and the subsquent capture of the King and his selling into slavery. The Congo nation had been neatly partioned and its independence lost once and for all.

England, Scotland, Spain, Poland, Friesland and Sweden all producing the herb that has taken Europe by storm, being touted as a cure for several ailments. Many monarchs have taken up the habit. This all means cash for those who grow it, and several other nations are looking at ways to increase their own revenue. Meanwhile the tobacco buzz has begun to spread into Chinese, Aztec and Incan lands although with not as much sucess due to the preponderance of coca chewing in these regions.
Scotish King elected Lord Protector of Ireland. Ireland and Scotland unite under a Personal Union. Scotish King declares himself 'King of Ireland'
As the Lord Protector of Ireland died, the Irish nobles met and elected the King of Scotland as the logical choice of a strong Lord Protector. The King of Scotland manouvered over the next six months as Lord Protector and in January 1538 was declared the King of Ireland. He then followed this up in April of the same year declaring the United Kingdoms of Scotland and Ireland, a personal union between the crowns of the two Kingdoms.

The Pope has called for a great expansion of his military given the recent warfare to inflict the continent. 10 regiments were called for in recruitment but due to sheer sucess of his recruitment drive he has gained rather a bit more.

Spain under pressure from the Incan Empire and the Ming Chinese, has ceded the mainland South American territory in its possession to the Incan Empire in exchange for assurances and money. The stability of Carribia suffers a little drop due to this, as riots spread throughout the capital of Santiago.

Spainish loyalists have risen up against the Most Serene Republic in Naples and Sicily overthrowing the Doge of Venice causing him to flee once more. The Most Serene Republic is now based out of Malta and has sued for peace through the Pope in an effort to prevent its total destruction.

Russia with the funds from Sweden has built Ivanagrod on the Baltic Sea allowing its trade to flourish with Russian furs and vodka The Shuisky family, a very influential Russian noble family, hired a Cossack named Predslav and financed him to lead a major exploration all the way to Lake Baikal. This brough Russia into contact with the Mongol hordes of the East and Predslav has called upon no further expansion towards the East until this situation is more understood.

The Scotish crown has continued the expansion of the Scotish Empire with the establishment of New Alba in South America, this brings the total of Scotish colonies on the southern continent of the New World to two. Brazilwood is also found in the new colony greatly impressing the Scotish King.
Free Kamerun, Free Komo and Free Kongo established as states in the 'Gaelic Free States'
Using the slave forts established in the previous two years the Gaelic Free States has established the states of Free Kamerun, Free Komo and from the demise of the Congolsese Empire, Free Kongo. Commonly known as the KKK states these places are vast 'slave plantations' with Scotish slave raiders sometimes using Islamic raiders from Songhai to help capture the slaves. The black communities in these regions have since taken to raiding communites elsewhere to get slaves to offer the 'raiders' to ensuire that they are not troubles. At the moment slaves are being exported at the rate of over 500 a month!

Using the slave forts established in the previous two years the Gaelic Free States has established the states of Free Kamerun, Free Komo and from the demise of the Congolsese Empire, Free Kongo. Commonly known as the KKK states these places are vast 'slave plantations' with Scotish slave raiders sometimes using Islamic raiders from Songhai to help capture the slaves. The black communities in these regions have since taken to raiding communites elsewhere to get slaves to offer the 'raiders' to ensuire that they are not troubles. At the moment slaves are being exported at the rate of over 500 a month!

Austria begins to rebuild an 'Austrian Venice'
The Austrian Grand Duke and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire has begun the reuilding of the canal city of Venice, in a more Austrian overtone, with larger Gothic buildings. The Doge's Palace has been converted into an Imperial Palace for the Hasburg Princes. The people that survived the fall and destruction of the city begin to go back to Venice, losing faith in the Doge who has his core of supporters left and has been forced to begin allowing Maltese postions in his government.

The United Kingdom of the Netherlands has established the colony of New Uterecht in North America. This colony is strategically placed in the St. Andrew's Gulf and as such the Dutch King has great hopes for its future.

After the collapse of Chinese control over HAwaii following the monumental tsunami devestating the settlements, the Ming Emperor made it a mission to recpature the islands. Inititally he got some resistance from Japan but was able to reconquer the islands into the GReater Chinese Empire.
As a bonus there seems to be some overly studious workers on the island and rebuilding gains apace.\

The Kingdom of Portugal was on a veritable roll coming into 1537. It occupied Morocco, the Spainish Atlantic Islands and sucessfully got the Basques and Navarre regions to revolt against Spain. In early 1537 while the Spainish troops were still on the French border battling the forces of King Francis I, Portugal quickly invaded Spainish Galicia and Florida, although the latter proved to be a harder nut to crack, as one of the provinces of the sprawling Carribia colony that had been designated a possible target.
This invasion of the Spainish North American colonies activated the NATO pact as far as Englad was concerned, although it was still unclear wether this treaty actually applied to Spain and its territories of Carribia. They invaded the Canary Islands causingn the Scots to also declare war in an effort to capture the remainder of them. These declarations of war co-incided with the untimely death of King Francis I of France and the start of the subsquent 'French rupture', and the begining of the slowing down of hostilities along the Franco-Spainish borders.
The invasion of the Canary Islands by the joint Anglo-Scot forces led to a follow up invasion of Hy-Brasil by England and Cape Colony by Scotland. Hy-Brasil was captured after a bloody fought 8 month long campaign while Cape Town proved harder for the Scots, only being able to capture a small part of the colony itself. However help was to come from the most unlikely of quaters.
In Dehli a jihad was proclaimed against the 'Christian heathen crusader state'. The first step of the vast Mughal army was to recapture Goa and Malacca which were both done with ease, while the Mughal allied state the Ceylonese quickly recaptured their former capital of Colombo.
The Mughal fleet then set sail from India capturing the western African colonies of Portugal throughout early 1538, encountering resitance in Cape Colony and Tanzania. A small pocket of Portugese resistance persists in Tanzania but the Cape Colony invasion led to the Scots breaking out of their meager beacheads and the colony is now split between Chrisitan Scot and Muslim Mughal. There are also rumours of Christians being slaughtered in the colonies that have fallen to the Mughals but there is yet any evidence of this as of yet.
With the setbacks in the Canaries and its African colonies, Portugal was forced to abandon its invasion of the Fez state. and the subsquent counter-attack by the Fez army and military led to the loss of the Azore Islands to Morocco, as the Portugese shiped all their forces to the remaining island in the Atlantic as a veritable stronghold for the Portugese crown, knowing that with the death of France it was a matter of time.
With the Fez annexation by the now defenseless Portugese outpost of Dakar in Senegal, the Senegelese Empire declared itself independent of the tributary agreement of Portugal. The next day under great fanfare it declared itself a tributary nation of the Fez, boosting the Fezzian trade and presitge in the region.
With the tottering Portugese fortunes around the world Ming China and the Aztec Empire declared war and co-oridinated an attack on New Barcelona and New Libon, both cities falling and the remaining real colony that Potugal had control of. This was followed up by the Chinese annexation of the last remaining trading outpost that Portugal still held in Africa, truly once and for all ending its days as a colonial power. This saw the last major naval battle of the Portugese fleet as it was surrounded by English, Scotish, Chinese and Aztec warships and destroyed piecemeal. Several ships managed to escape total destruction.
Finally the much anticipated Spainish invasion came, Portugal was outmanovered as many of its best commanders including the King had taken refuge in the Atlantic Island that remained Portugese. Fez no longer seeing the huge Portugese navy in attendence around Portugal began its invasion southern Portugal. The battered Portugese fleet sallayed out once to try and cut the Moroccans off in an attempt to prevent some of their homeland falling in the hands of the Muslims, but the Spainish and Moroccan home fleets roundly beat them inflicting yet more casutalites.
By the end of 1538, Lisbon still held out along with pockets in Spainish Galicia, Florida, Tanzania and the sole Atlantic Island under its control which has become its capital in all but name and has been converted into a veritable island stronghold.

Sweden is in debt because he put in orders to sign treaty with Russia but not set aside the money. He will have to pay the 15IC debt off this turn..... After the BT that will take us to Revolutionary times, debt will be more strucutred into the rules and will incur interest and the like...but it will be a simple as posisble at the same time

As for the cape colony in question, we cannot make a precise estimate right now though we feel that at this point the lowest bid we can seriously consider is 5 IC.
