Shortcut for Steam Beyond the Sword

For those of you who, like me, got the Steam version of BtS the shortcut included in the FFH2 install won't work for you. If you want the mod to load without having to do so manually go to the games menu, right click on BtS, select properties, select launch options, then enter "mod=\Fall from Heaven 2 025" without quotes. Hopefully I can save someone the hassle of checking and rechecking their shortcut target like I did

If this isn't working check to make sure that you have installed the mod to the correct "/Mods/" directory, as the Steam filepaths are long and confusing.

I realize this is a necro post, but I had to do some futzing about to get this to work, so I thought I'd share how I got it working. This is on Windows XP, I don't know if it will work differently on Vista (you might not need the quotes). Here is a pic of my shortcut's properties window.



The full target line should look like this:

E:\Games\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 8800 mod="\Fall from Heaven 2 030"

To get the shortcut working properly on Windows XP you need both the backslash and the quotes in the "mod=" switch to get the shorcut to open a mod. If all you want to do is start up Beyond the Sword, just remove the ' mod="\Fall from Heaven 2 030"'. If the creators of the mod have provided an icon you will probably find it in the root mod folder. For Fall from Heaven 2 the icon was in bmp format, so you have to set the view to "All Files" when you are looking for the icon.

I suppose I'll link that one instead. I noticed that I already had instructions for setting up a shortcut if you use steam. My version wouldn't launch the actual Steam application itself, and I have never used it so I do not know if that is important. Could you try my way and see if that works for you? If not I will delete that little bit of information, otherwise I will leave both options available.

That way does not work. It starts Beyond the Sword, but does not start the mod.
