I know I often sound like the decency police, but a relative of mine was an extra in a direct-to-DVD film recently, and one of the actors in it had been up-and-coming actor until he had his career ruined after the fact he had stared in gay porngraphy when he was 18 when he was broke and needed money desperatley came to light. BTW the actor has said he's straight in the press and the films he started in were solo but aimed at gay buyers. That said, I think this anecdote illustrates my point ... IMO 18 is far too young to star in pornographic films, teens are less mature than they were a while ago, and it's a big decision that many will regret in a few years time. 21 is a better age for them to make the decision about whether they should star in porn, by then they will have been at college/work for a few years and they will have better judgement.

Also, I find the fact pornographic studios target actors who have recently turned 18 and look young for their age and market them as 'barely legal' to be disgusting with pedophiliac elements.

I think the problem lies in the fact that starring in a pornagraphic film is held against him. It shouldn't ruin someone's career. It's like fighting the symptom.

there is nothing wrong with pornographic films.

I do agree with the "barely legal" sentiment though.

I hate arguments that say teenagers can't do something because "they don't have enough judgment," especially ones over 18.

I chuckled at that. You can't objectively say teens are more misbehaved now then before.

Do you want to raise the draft age to 21 to? That way we wouldn't have immature teens fighting in wars.

18 is legal adult. You can't tell them not to star in porns if they want to.

What Ziggy says.

His career was not ruined by acting in a porn movie, but by people who judge him on that.

Yes. I support the troops but teens should not be dying in the battlefield. Well, that said, nobody should be dying in the battlefield.

That was more as an opening story ... my point is that these days teens are growing up slowly (lots of people still living at their parents homes into their twenties...) and that 18 is really the new 15 IMO, it should be left til later. Also it would encourage them to seek more 'respectable' employment areas, it's not like staring in porn in something like voting, I don't think it's vital and can wait three years.

I'm not saying it should be raised because I disrepect 18/19/20 yr olds and their judgement capabilities but I'm just saying it is a choice that many regret once they are older and once it is done it can't be taken back.

@ Puglover. Considering that you are a teenager, you just do not have enough experience to know the fallacy of that statement. ;)

There are other reasons, though, to keep the age limit at 18. Someone younger than 18 is still largely under the control of authority figures like parents and teachers, who might pressure them. An 18-year-old has the independence to do what she wants with her body, and it has nothing to do with how well they can make decisions.

I agree that the government should not poke its nose into the business of the public, but I see this as more of a helping hand rather than a controlling hand.

Whereas you have the opinion people grow up slower, I have the opinion they grow up a hell of a lot faster.

A matter of perception, I guess.

What mine? Cause my second on is pure haystack.

See how the time of our two posts are exactly them same. My post was directed at puglover, which is why edited. Some of it was tongue in cheek and some of it was serious.

Oh yes, lets raise the age. 21 year olds are sooo much more mature and knowledgable than 18 year olds.

In fact, we should really raise the age to 30, because thatswhen folks are really mature.

And yes, thats alot of sarcasm

NO! We are living in Amerika....in AMERIKAAAAA!!! COCA COLA!! WONDERBRA!! WE ARE LIVING IN AMERIKA!!

I think it's a bit of both really ... kids are growing up 'too' fast in some areas while in others they are growing up too 'slow'. Also it can be true in that people are growing up faster/slower at the same time. Where I live a lot of parents are buying their kids brand new cars at the age of sixteen (or even 15!) etc and then pay for any mantinence and insurance etc, which is really making them grow up faster in terms of having the benfits of adults, but at the same time making them grow up slower while not having the responsibilites of adults.

Stop the hypocracy. Men are attracted to young girls, because nature (or God if you wish) designed men to be like that. 17-years old girls are most attractive (except for pedophiles) because they are most fertile. And when they get pregnant the child is most likely to be healthy. So if you say that the porn industry is disgusting for seeking young actresses, what you're basically saying is that human nature is disgusting.

Btw, what is "unrespectable" about being a porn star?

Yes, that is 'human nature'. Actually, I believe it's also 'human nature' for girls to get impregnated at 13 with their brothers child, eating poorly cooked meat (possibly even human meat) cooked on a campfire, and living in a cave with no sense of purpose. Why would anyone want to challenge the greatness of 'human nature'.
Btw, what is "unrespectable" about being a porn star?

Figure it out for yourself. :)
