Should the COLOSSEUM forums be merged?

I suppose some kind of vote ala the OT merging vote, would settle the issue in a definitive way.

I also think that a number of posters would be starting some art threads, but currently do not since the art forum is not in that good shape post-wise. I don't mean myself, by the way, although i would like to start some art thread in some circumstances, but i do not own the forum in many senses :)

So OT threads don't get derailed constantly into talking about abortion/Obama/something else all the time? News to me.

And the art threads stick monomaniacally to the original post, with no topic drift?

This is why I most sincerely hope the admins make a special subforum for the 2016 U.S. election. The rest of us would like to be able to find something other than politics to talk about.

When the subforum forces me to discuss the things I like with fewer people, then yes, it is harmful.
Well, in some cases that may be a positive.

The MLP fans have repeatedly been subject of viscious attacks. Efforts of the mod staff to protect them have been, let's be generous and say "partially successful".
They are still occassionally attacked in that thread they have in A&E, but the isolation there no doubt serves their protection.

Or, as another example, there is this thread right now in S&T about human genealogy, that has some rather explosive angles to it. But no exploding is taking place. Mostly due to the isolation.
If that thread was in OT it would ka-boom in less than an hour.

Another straw poll established to determine what people think of something the mods were going to do anyway?

There was a vote on the OT re-merger?

Yes there was.

A vote at least in terms that people could register their feelings about the merger.

But not a vote in so far as voting implies any sort of agency or power.

And it is incorrect in which way…?

Birdjaguar announced that the remerge and RD "trial" was going ahead prior to the close of the voting thread. From my end, it appeared that the remerge was going to happen regardless of what people thought about it.

We've never had polls about decisions before, so it'd seem strange to suggest that we'd put a decision in the hands of one if we had already made up our minds. You could say that we only created the poll because we assumed the proposal would pass it (and this assumption, coupled with early results meeting the assumption, is why some moderator comments might seem to pre-empt the final result), but expecting success for a proposal we favoured doesn't mean it wasn't contingent on the vote. I suppose those on the losing side might feel they were left powerless by being in the minority, but that seems to be more a comment on the nature of democracy than that individual poll.

To be fair, while CFC (and virtually all other forums of similar size) is not a "democracy" anyway, i do not see how the mods/admins themselves actually care much if/what subforums are united to other ones.

So i have to suppose that the overall view of the posters who might use them is still likely to play a role.

So go ahead and unite arts to OT :yup:

The opposition might be bigger than you expect.

Staff decision is that the fora will not be merged at this time. There are enough members who like their current separate subfora that inertia wins.

Thank you, and may it please be a good long time (several months at least) before yet another such thread pops up for no particularly pressing reason. :please:

If one does, and you do not feel like publicly debating the subject again, just PM me "Still opposed". I will know what you mean.
Likewise anyone else who has a view on a Site Feedback matter and would like their view known to staff without a public post can PM me.
