Yes, for two reasons.

Ukrainians voted to be independent.

Ukrainians have a radically different mindset from Russians. Ukrainians are western oriented, believing in a democratic republic and free enterprise. Russia is an authoritarian state, run by kleptocrats.

No, Ukrainians aren't any of those things you mention, indeed they're exactly like the Russians if not worse (for some of them). And I think I know what I'm speaking about as a Ukrainian citizen.

Ukranians though, those are truly freedom loving people, and fully deserve independence.
