Shyuhe-6: Re-learning war

OK I will take it but dont thing our demise will be down to anybody's play but just a tough set-up in a tough variant.

Lower difficulty setting, maybe? :P

I think we are doing pretty well. What I can't understand is the choice for Alphabet. You commented on the lack of a proper counter of AI units, yet instead of Construction which will precisely give us that, Alphabet was chosen presumably for spies. It's all a question of priorities I suppose.

Uh, wait? Can we counter anything with cats? I don't think we...
OH WAIT. FORGOT ABOUT THE DAMN ELEPHANTS.

Never mind. We'll steal it from someone.

and yes, I'm still not optimistic.

Ok on opening the save this is a game where we just get to watch our Empire crash n’ burn. The two waves we are facing at Carthage and Tiwanaku are not going to be something we can stand up to for long.

I change research to Construction as Alphabet won’t help and Elephants might, also put in HA’s in the queue in our backline cities to be whipped in just in case they can make a difference.

We survive the first wave but only just and when the next one comes it looks like Carthage is toast.

When we are reduced to our Super medic and GG I abandon Carthage to see how long Tiwanaku can survive.

Now we have bult a decent defensive force here but nothing compared to the stacks they are facing.

And next turn we are reduced to this so the city falls.

At this stage I think we need to admit defeat and start again.

 Indeed it does like like defeat. So we have a number of options:

1) re-roll (I'll hand pick leaders in this case to avoid the Caesars).
2) re-roll at monarch.
3) try a different variant. I have an amusing one in mind but it's completely non-standard. I was thinking of starting us with SM and requiring us to build forest preserves on every tile possible.

Thoughts?

edit: in view of Fox's new SG, I'm inclined to choose option 3. Let me know if you guys are interested or would still like to try AW.

I would say 1) could well be a repeat of this game so I would vote for 2) but will happily join you in 3)

I'm okay with whatever idea you come up with Shyuhe. This one was, by the looks of it, pretty much doomed to fail. Emperor AW is very hard... might well be harder than normal Immortal. I can't do either. :crazyeye:

3 seems amusing enough if not a bit overpowered. We'll have gigantic (albeit not very useful) cities in no time. :p

The premise of 3 is to turn the entire planet into forests (save the rain forest!). So, we can never chop. We must also build a preserve on every available tile. The one exception are resource specials - we are allowed to build the appropriate tile improvements on those. We are also not allowed to build roads unless necessary to hook-up the resource specials. So... basically we'll have to run a bizarre specialist economy. I thought about starting us off in environmentalism so that preserves actually produce commerce but wasn't sure.

So that's the gory detail for option 3. Either that (not sure what level - probably monarch-emperor) or monarch AW.

Don't they produce happiness as well? In that case we could use that to our advantage.

So is option 3 AW as well? When you say no roads allowed, I presumed it is no roads allowed in forests (not sure why though). Or is it no roads allowed on all tiles to encourage forest growth? Then it should be no improvements allowed (as oppose to roads only). That would be difficult. Very difficult.

How abt jungles? Are they choppable?

And why specialist economy? Preserve only help one city in that sense, and it is way too late in the game (biology) to make a difference.

Yay, monarch! Now that's a level I can handle.
How about one of the new BTS leaders?

Hammurabi sounds fun to me..
