Sid Game Tres

The AI isnt creative enough to attack just because of a warrior in a choke point. They were just going toward you city, and took it out cause it was in the way.
 
The RNG has been good to me [party] !!! And bad to me in a way, if that I get no promotions, but I guess promotions are obselete if you win every battle :lol: . Sorry I don't have a screenshot. The first attack by the jag was failed, and then I built a warrior in Kahnawake, and 2 came to reinforce. My status at Kahnawake is walls with 4 warriors. I had to join a worker to rush the walls. The prob is that jags usually retreat, so they'll just heal and attack later when the az have a bigger stack. I think only spears will save me, and maybe archers. Also, if I"m not killing anything, it will be less likely they'll talk. I might buy bronze from China, but it will cost 350 gold (before haggling). I know I was going to save my treasury this time, but this is an emergency.

Speaking of that, I have changes to my strategy changes this game.
- I will try SirPlebs trick of gifting the GL away. I didn't want to use that last time, as I wasn't gonna war until cavs, and I wouldn't be able to get it back. The only way to get it back is a early knight war with the aztecs to get armies so I can take it back when the AI gets industrial. I can probably steal to RP when it's needed.
- To do this requires monarchy. I won't go to republic again, since I'm not doing my own research.

About the Aztec war, at the beginning I'll be fighting their mega corrupt cities stupidly building a market or something with only 2-3 spears for defense. By the time I've gotten to corish cities, I'll have the armies needed to make an army wall, flat out attack, or create a kill zone (probably can't do that until gunpowder).

Edit: I wish I had settled 1 south. It would have allowed my second city to be on a river still with the cow. It then would be a 4-turn settler factory, not a 6 turn settler factory.
 
Another screenieless update, I apologize.

1 lone warrior defending Kahnawake with 2 hp kills 6 jags, generates a leader, then gets killed, and I lose Kahnawake. When I got that leader I was :rotfl: . But I got peace for a measly 180 gold!!!! Yay! [party] :band: :dance: :bounce: :) :D . The only loss in that war was 490 gold for buying BW (which I didn't need afterall) and peace. Kahnawake was lost too, but can be replaced. It might force me to let GLTown riot for a few turns while getting up to 24 cities, but that's cool. The GL is mine, and it's only a matter of time.
 
:bounce: YEEEEEHAAAAAA!!! Awesome! Well, Own has defeated the vile aztecs. Sorta. Anyway, good work. More of this game is looked forward to.

Did that last sentence make sense?

Sorry I haven't updated in a while, I've been playing, just nothing exiting enough worthy of an update has happened yet. I've almost got the GL, so I'll make the next update when that happens.

I'm still thinking either republic and self research towards miltrad, or monarchy and GL gifting trick. I'm afraid I'm not gonna be able to get it back, oh boy that would be a big suck :lol: .

I'm leaning towards republic. In my last game, research was very fast for sid huge, the combo that makes techs most expensive, and I was in monarchy. In republic, according to CAII I would be making 300 more beakers. Also less shield wastage in rep isn't to be sneezed at. Military police may be a problem, unless there are enough luxes to buy. No luxes in my land. Last time, relying on luxes killed me, and I don't want to make the same mistake. Monarchy will most likely need the slider too, and rep's commerce bonus will probably make 10% 3 more happy faces than monarchy 10%. That makes up for MP. War warniess issue: I think I may switch to monarchy right as I attack. Or maybe not. Maybe a GA lux slider can handle more than necessary. WW can get so bad that even 100% lux won't help. If I am forced to make a change during the war to monarchy, that's 8 turns of no GA.

:crazyeye: Before I think about this, I should think about who I should attack first. I don't think the Aztecs are up first. Even a choke point can't stop sid stacks if my attack fails. I need to have water defense, so probably a civ on another island. When I get armies from that war, I can then take on Aztecs and block the choke with an army if need be.
 
Oh, come on, get on with the aztecs, you know you can do it. And if the attack fails, you can beg for mercy (peace) :).
 
Thanks for beleiving in me, but on sid the numbers are pure insanity. You can't kill them all (unless your name is Bamspeedy, SirPleb or Moonsinger), so you have to use army walls and bait. Those are difficult with no armies, so I need to get some from China where I have water defense. I can't survive 2 turns with another civ on my landmass without armies.

Core cities should have about 100, no I'm not exaggerating, !)) (darn, you can't capitialize 100) of the most contemperorary defensive units.

Edit, more to add: About begging for peace, I probably won't even be able to talk for 10 turns if I'm getting killed, and by then I'm a gonner. I could sign an MA with China, as civs are more willing to talk/peace if you have an MA, but that would ruin my alliance rep, which is invaluable.


Btw, I've decided on republic. I lost last time so I don't know why I should do what I did before.
 
I think 12 per city and 24 overall, as well as the free units from their government type. The cost factory is 4, so spears cost 8 shields. They bankrupt themselves to support all those dudes, which is an advantage I guess. Their way outlier cities only have 2 defenders usually.

EDAGreen- Go for it, man. I suggest tiny or small unless you're planning an epic game, because the higher the difficulty, the slower the game (huge sid take FOREVER).

You are exaggering a bit.. if you find that amount of units in core cities you really need to put NoAIPatrol=0 in your ini file.. with that on I rarely find more than 4 defenders in core cities (a bit more in capital and wonder cities).

When I played on this map I rarely had to kill more than 40 units per turn, and then only the first few turns after starting the war.. building an army of 60-70 mounted warriors can easilly deal with that (upgrade to knights and cavs as needed).. also dont forget to ally AIs vs other AIs when you start war and they will burn units on eachother aswell.

Also when you kill this many units you reach a point where you feel mad when you dont get atleast 1 leader per turn of war. (dont forget to start a prebuild for heroic epic so you can switch to it and complete it first turn after you get the first army)
