Simple questions, simple answers

You say that after playing one game? I really hope this isn't true or Liberty is a dead tree.

By the way, in every lets play I've seen so far, tech costs increased by 3% for each city (not 5%). Maybe different game settings?

It depends on map size.

By the way, I set the cost increase to 25% from 5%. Now, before you faint and call me crazy, let me tell you, a rival 6-city (5 are puppets) Venice with pop (36, 31, 30, 25, 8, 7) is the Tech Leader and techs FASTER than my 3-city Portugal (all core cities) with pop (48, 49, 31). Those aren't new puppets either, Venice's had them for a while. There's a Public School in every city. Venice is 6 techs ahead of me. On Prince. I was Tech Leader until Venice manned up and conquered those cities, then his tech surpassed mine. Remember, NumCitiesTechCostMod is set to 25. You should try it sometimes. :) I find that it has a nice balance between wide and tall empires.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but can someone explain what the point of trading great works with other civilizations is? They all seem to have the same yield.

Certain combinations will have a "theming bonus" which grants better yields

For example, the Louvre requires that you have great works from different eras and civilizations. You could slot all of your own works in the Louvre, but you get no bonus so you have to trade

Great Works can be moved between buildings or cities as desired, and they can be traded with other civilizations. When similarly-themed Great Works are grouped together in the same building, it's possible to get an additional bonus. Different building will have different requirements to get a Theme Bonus: a regular Museum gets a +2 bonus for similar works from a similar period, but the Louvre requires a diversity of works from different civilizations and periods to earn a bonus.

In a nutshell that's what I know because I'm still getting my feet wet. If someone else knows something else please let me know as well

You can find artifacts in dig sites. They share the same icon as art pieces, but they're different. You can trade them too, although AI tends to not have any early on. In a Museum you can either have 2 art pieces, or 2 artifacts for the theme bonus. In my game I built way too many archeologists. I ended up having so many artifacts that there's no more room in my cities to fill them...

1)I have no idea who gets Homeland Guardian. I know that it's not the Shoshone UA--that one is Pride of the Ancestors.

Figured this one out—it's the Berber Cavalry. Their friendly-territory bonus and desert combat bonus are separate, so they get a whopping +75% on Moroccan desert tiles (making them as strong as a Landship). Upgraded to Modern Armor, they'll even be able to stomp on GDRs under the right circumstances!

Still wrestling with the first game, but two questions which are probably pretty easy for more experienced players to answer:

1. Ideology: After you choose your first tenet (s) do you then have to expend culture to get more at the expense of social policies?

2. Nil tourism from buildings purchased with faith. What exactly are buildings purchased with faith- are they pagodas etc?

Does any one know if antiquity sites can pop-up on tiles that already have improvements? For example, once I get Archeology, will I see an antiquity site show up on a tile that has a farm?

Yeah, they'll pop up over normal improvements. Making an actual dig will wipe out whatever improvement was under it to start with, which is probably why they don't show up over GP improvements. If you don't make a landmark out of the site, you'll have to rebuild your improvement after you haul off the relic.

If you conquer an Indonesian city that has Nutmeg will you get it, or does it nullify like Porcelain and jewelry?

Thankyou! Now I want to know what the combinations are... the Civilopedia mentions this, but doesn't specify others.

The combinations are defined in the tooltips if you hover over the slots in the culture window.

Is there a way to see where sites of antiquity are, like other resources? Or is it just a case of being eagle-eyed?
They are revealed upon discovery of archeology. You won't miss them ;) Some will remain hidden until you decide to complete Exploration policy tree.

My question is:
Can I track progress of world projects (olympic games and the fair)?

Yes, you can track progress. If you are building it in one or more cities, just hover the cursor over the project icon on the city info bar. The tooltip will show the relevant data.
