Simple questions, simple answers

Does anyone know if there's a way to view which technologies the AI Civs have researched, or at least how many? I know you can get information on whether or not they have any tech to steal from a spy (after setting up surveillance), that you can get a basic Tech comparison by mousing over the scores in the diplomacy overview, and that you get very infrequent advisor pop-ups about how many Techs each Civ has, but is there a way to see this whenever you want it? Thanks very much for your help!

Such information would be cheating in a strategy game unless you have earned that information (which the Civ5 only provides when the Spy has gathered the information). There has to be risk/reward in the game. The best way is to use your analysis of their units. The AI generally does a good job of having the latest and greatest.

Your trade routes, either active or potential, will tell you how many techs the civ that you are trading with has that you don't and vice versa.

The trade route info just tells you how many techs the Ai has, not which ones. For that information, you have to use clues garnered from the map and AI behavior. If you have a spy in their city, you can see what they have built or are building, which is always useful. Even without a spy, there are clues galore. Do you see their Cavalry running around on the map? They have Military Science. you see they've built (or are building) Forbidden Palace? They have Banking. Can you see the shadow of the Great Wall being built? They have Engineering. If they found the World Congress, they have Printing Press. Etc., etc.

You can also take cue from their Unique Units. Most AIs will beeline techs that unlock their UUs (and UBs). So, if you see Austria with Lancers (Metallurgy), it's a safe bet that she's aiming for Military Science to get her Hussars.

There are lots of other ways to gather clues, but that's part of the fun.

Do you have open GW slots? If you have nowhere to house the GWs you cannot make them.

I have, this is different. Even if i didn't have space to house GW, the Great Artist/Musician/Writer had the option (although it wasn't highlighted) and they were unique (with names). In my case they were totally generic, with no name - just Great Artist and the normal ability (to start golden age etc)

It's possible you've run out of great works in game.

So you can actually run out of them? I mean is there a fixed amount of great works in the game to share among all civs?

Yes, and yes. Hasn't happened to me yet, but you should find a rant thread or two about this by searching the forums a bit. It's annoying, I bet.

Turn on Strategic View and turn off all icons except resource icons. Makes it very easy to spot specific resources.

Yes, I know that, but still you have ALL resources listed here. I suppose there isn't option to highlight only one particular resource, am I correct?

:(

How does the internal city flipping work? Are there two ways to do that, one by the Great Writer and another by opposing ideology?

Hello; i searched this thread and couldn't find it: are the AI bonuses from difficulty the same as G&K? Another thread someone said they increased?

Another thing: say i have a religion that allows Pagodas, and some AI has a religion with Mosques; he uses a great prophet to convert my city; if i purchase a Mosque there before removing his religion with a prophet of my own, will that mosque generate pressure for his religion, or will it just generate the generic faith resource?

Religious buildings don't generate pressure, apart from the Grand Temple, so go ahead and get that mosque.

What does ICS mean?

Infinite City Sprawl, the ages-old Civ strategy of just claiming as much land as you can by founding as many cities as you can. It was very strong in the earlier establishments of the series and the devs have attempted to nerf it more for each successive one, usually with little success.

New question: Must you be pro-actively aggressive to win an SV on Immortal in BNW?

Normally when I did SVs on Emperor (or any VC for that matter) in GnK, I only had to be aggressive if someone near to me expanded into what was clearly my territory, or took one of my only options for one of my four cities. I could get an SV without DoWing in general.

I just started my first Immortal game ever with BNW as Korea. I was able to get my four cities in my corner of the Pangaea, and it looks like a great position to turtle. I just don't know if turtling is that viable on immortal.

Justinian, I am playing an immortal game in which I was isolated with another civ on a small continent. I built my 4 cities, kept peace with my neighbor and I discovered everyone else around turn 185, I then got aggressive in techs, culture/tourism and WC because I was well behind. I'm still behind at turn 250, but everyone but the Huns are DoF with everyone else (kinda annoying), I can focus on those three areas and see where those take me. Who knows, maybe multi wars will start but so far, everyone is minding there own business. That's not what I expect at immortal but as to your question, there are a couple of civs that will bother you. If you don't have them in your game and if you don't start anything, they will leave you alone.

Isn't there supposed to be an updated version of the new world scenario with BNW?

Isn't there supposed to be an updated version of the conquest of the new world scenario with BNW?
If there is, where is it?

Does building a road make any difference when it comes to caravans/land trade routes?

It's also annoying that caravans are walking beneath my road/railroad and not on it :crazyeye:

Thanks for your help. I'll try and keep my hands clean as much as possible during the game. Should be interesting because my game includes Russia, Rome and the Huns, who are typically belligerent. Turtle power!

First of all, THANK YOU for this thread...

1. What is the significance of that portion of the population called the "Specialists"?
2. When do they become available to "make"?
3. How do you make them?
4. How do you know where to put them in which circles in a city to help make that city, say, Great Person, Cultural, Diplomatic, Science, etc., Focused. E.g. "I want to make this city Great Person focused, I need to place my Specialists in this circle and that circle..."

Regards,

Marc
