Update 1 2006 Year of Peace? I think not.
All is quiet in the US as the government concentrates of economic growth and projects more than anything else. The USA has also created the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which includes all of North and Central America along with Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, and Paraguay. However this has been looked upon as a direct threat by Argentina and Chile and they will certainly not react well to this.
The rest of North America is similarly quiet with both the Canadian and Quebecois carrying out numerous projects and furthering economic growth. And of course Mexico does similar.
However the situation in Europe is quite different.
In Austria the people have revolted! The Austrian people who resented Hungarian rule have risen up at the encouraging of the Germans however their population support was slightly lower then expected because of a propaganda campaign launched by the Hungarians urging the people to remain part of the Empire.
(-5 Hungarian divisions) (-3 Austrian Rebel divisions)
In addition to this the Germans took direct action against the Hungarians! The entire Luftwaffe flew in and proceeded to engage the Hungarian Imperial Air Force. Fierce dogfights took place for control of the skies above Austria and the Hungarians battled valiantly against the Germans but in the end German numerical superiority won out and facing destruction the Hungarian Air Force retreated.
(-10 Hungarian air wings) (-6 German air wings)
Having gained air superiority German forces utilized it well bombing the unprotected Hungarian forces on the ground. The air strikes and rebel attacks overwhelmed the Hungarians and the rebels have taken much of Austria including the capital Vienna.
(-2 Hungarian divisions) (-1 Austrian Rebel division)
The Hungarians now control only the south of the country and that too looks as if it will not last.
South of these explosive events more explosive events are taking place! Yugoslavia has invaded Greece! Half the Yugoslavian army invaded using pincer tactics to attempt trap Greek forces.
However the Yugoslavs were not as successful as they hoped as Greek forces were already on the border in case of attack and well prepared and well organized.
The I Greek Corps were eventually overrun by the sheer weight of number of the Yugoslav forces however not without inflicting heavy casualties of their own.
(-1 Greek Corps {5 divisions}) (-8 Yugoslav divisions)
The Yugoslavians managed to advance but were quickly halted by Greek Reserve Corps III.
(-1 Greek divisions) (-2 Yugoslav division)
The Yugoslav Air Force flew south and proceeded to annihilate the entire Greek air force in dogfights with minimal casualties.
(-5 Greek air wings) (-2 Yugoslav air wings)
Then having gained air superiority the Greek ground forces came under the full fury of the Yugoslav air force. Attempts to damage Greek economy failed however.
(-1 Greek divisions)
Currently things look bad for the Greeks as their skies are completely controlled by the Yugoslavs and their army has suffered heavy casualties. This war will likely be decided by next year.
In Western Europe France and Britain are surprisingly quiet. It seems they are doing the same as the nations of North America.
In Russia surprising events have happened.
The Russian government in a previous agreement with the Finns and Persians has granted them independence!
Russia has pulled completely out of Persia after the rebels led by Ayatollah Khomeni threatened violent revolt. Immediately after the Russians pulled out Khomeni declared the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He has large-scale support in the east and south of the country meanwhile the former Russian backed Shah of the Persian autonomous area has power in the north of the country.
Khomeni has demanded that the Shah surrender to him and has threatened to march on Tehran. The Shah responded by calling on the Russians for help.
So far fighting has not broken out between the two factions but it is yet to be seen weather it will remain so.
In Finland it was far more peaceful. The Russian granted Finland independence but were allowed to keep bases and station troops there and it is predicted that Finland will be a good ally.
Meanwhile Russia introduced a language reform which allowed minority groups to study in their own language but only if they learn Russian as well.
The minorities are pretty divided over this as some like that they are being allowed to study in their own language while others dislike the fact they have to learn Russian.
Perhaps thats what the Russians intended?
In the Far East Russia mobilized a massive amount of its forces and prepared them for attack from China. Fortunately it was an attack that never came as the Chinese and Russian forces just stared at each other across the border then went home.
However China did suffer disturbances in the Western areas of the countries. Muslims in Xijiang and Tibetans revolted demanding independence
Parts of the countryside and Lhasa have been taken. This is expected to provoke a harsh Chinese response.
(-5 divisions)
In Japan a military buildup has started as the Japanese are arming up. For what nobody knows
.
In the Indochinese Federation the government oddly decided to change the name to the Pacific Federation for what reason is unsure. It has also enslaved criminals and has forced them to work as slave labor. This has increased the economy but it has caused discontent among the people as the Pacific Federation is a Democracy and the people do not take kindly to this sort of thing.
(+1 economy) (-1 confidence)
Then Pacific forces fortified the northern border with China an odd move considering the two nations are traditionally allies.
The vast oil resources of the Pacific Federation, which lie off, its shore has begun to be developed. Once it is fully developed it is sure to boost the nations economy!
Finally in the Middle East in the Secular Federation of Judea-Palestine. Yasser Ben-Gurion has become the ruler. They SFJP are also seeking to create a Federal Identity among its people along with other reforms.
And that is not the only reform happening in the Middle East. In Egypt for the first time ever a woman has taken high office and become Minister of Internal Affairs breaking the stereotypical image of the Muslim woman. This has inspired many other women to follow her example.
(+1 Confidence)
The economy of Egypt is doing well due to increased tourism through aggressive advertising in many countries. People from all over are coming to see the Lands of the Pharaohs.
(+1 economy)
And as a final act Egypt has constructed 10 new mosques in 10 farming villages making the people of the villages feel that the government is in touch with their lives
(+1 Confidence)
Egypt is truly the Progressive Center of the Muslim World.
And thus ends 2006 a year of peace, war, independence, and reform.
