SKNES: Architecture of Aggression

Religious War Part Three
After a month of fighting, the four factions finally had a lull in fighting and a rudimentary map was drawn of generalized borders.

But then, the fighting picked up again.
Forn Sidr, now in control of nearly three quarters of the navy, attacked the Catholics((Light Blue)) who were led by Brenin Julio.

Julio Brenin sat in his castle as the long ships of Araullt landed troops and began to act like the Norse raiders. Raids were conducted all along the Catholic coastline and still Julio sat in his castle. So, Araullt sent troops further inland to draw Julio out of his castle. Eventually, this tactic succeeded when Julio became aggravated by all the complaints of "Brythonian raiders". Julio came out of his castle with his forces and Araullt ambushed his army when it neared the coast.

During this time, Brenin Pysgod attacked the Druids. After several days of fighting, both sides had beaten their borders to a pulp. Eventually though, the Druids began to give ground to the onslaught.

If anyone wants details, just say so and I'll write where you want me to add detail. :)

I would love to know what the colors stood for.
Light Blue = Catholic, Dark Green = Druidic, Red = Celto-Coptic, Orange = Forn Sidr.
Anyways, to give people an idea of how much I possibly could write on this:
Spoiler :
Note: Each image is the borders at the beginning of each month.

From the Holy Roman Empire
To the Vandals

Cease your raids on my domains at once.

To: Clovis I, Holy Roman Emperor
From: Gundomar I, Sultan of Carthage, King of the Vandals

Hand over to the Vandalic Sultanate the remainder of the island of Corsica, and raids upon your realms will cease.

To: Members of Muslim Defensive Alliance
From: Sultanate of Castile

The Holy Roman Empire has formed. Do not be afraid. Allah will protect us. Join the resistance. Check our council (social group).
Allah bless us all.

To: The Emperor of the Romans
From: Balghichi, Duke of Taman

If I may, I request free trade and travel through your great city of Constantinople.

OOC: Geez, so much is happening now.

Nothing is free in this world. Your merchants will not have preferred status in my cities, and will pay less dues therein.

To:Venice
From:Byzantium

Fire your minister of diplomacy. He is obviously on the Pope's payroll. He advocates only papal policies, and cares nothing for the the prestige of Venice.

OOC: If you look at your diplomacy, Sniped, you will see a hilarious trend that makes as much sense as the Papal diplomacy... Which is laughable at best. You do whatever the pope does, but with a different voice, hahaha.

OOC: At the moment, I am trying to protect Italy and survive at the same time. That's relatively hard for a small nation. Also, this is my first NES, and although I do play IOTs, I try to stay out of diplomacy, for one misplaced word can make life for your nation suck :p

A Brief History of Castile Part Three
The Passing of the Sultan
760 A.D. - 851 A.D.

Behold my beloved country! A page from the History of Castile and even the copy of the Scroll of Castile!

The Story
Spoiler :
Ubair Mikaeel al-Rashied was born on 14 August 760 A.D. in Burgos, the Holy Capital of Castile. Thrust upon the throne at the young age of 21, Ubair had the difficult task of converting the Religious Minorities and settling down Epir. The very first thing he did when he was appointed Sultan was to sign the Scroll of Castile.
The Scroll of Castile states that the Sultan will do everything for his people first, and then bring personal wishes next. Every Sultan has to sign this Scroll, and the Sultan has no power without signing it. It is made from the finest papyrus in the world. It is so sacred that the Sultan himself may only touch with the ink pen that he uses to sign it. Peasants aren’t even allowed to look at it. It is the most sacred piece of paper in Castile, behind the Quran.

Once a Sultan dies, his heir uses a special type of ink that washes away the signature of his predecessor. The Sultan then signs the scroll himself, says the oath of Sultans, and never sees the Scroll again.
One man managed to paint a copy of the Scroll of Castile, and is kept in the Castilian Museum.

Ubair managed to convert the minorities after 20 years, and only 10% of the population follows another religion. Many acclaimed his success to his funding, but it was the control of Epir that also made the heathens believe that Islam is the true religion.
However Epir was short lived. A month after they annexed the land, Byzantines army swept the land and without an army to defend, Epir was lost within a week. Ubair was angry, but blamed himself. He then got his finest troops and formed the Royal Castilian Swordsman, an elite type of infantry capable of over-taking even mounted units.

Ubair died of old age, his age being 91 years old, the second oldest man in the history of Castile. The oldest was Muhammed Sheik, who lived until 92 years. Ubair was buried in Rankton, the same place as his father. Aqeel Ubair al-Rashied is his heir.

The Scroll
Spoiler :
I The Sultan of Castile, hereby swear to always protect Castile
To do what's right, and to make sure my people prosper
Because I am the Sultan and that is a Sultan's duty
And the Sultan shall do his duty and do what is right
For he must please his people, his country, and Allah
For Honour, For Glory, For Allah
The Sultanate of Castile

OOC: Um, can anyone give me a list of what the hoot just freaking happened?? My head hurts very much right now...

If I'm not mistaken this is what happened.
Franks ask for forgiveness from the Pope.
Pope accepts
Pope wants to unite Catholics.
They form the Holy Roman Empire
They now threaten to take over the world
Some nations formed an alliance to resist the HRE
Everyones sh****** in their pants scared of the HRE

The holy roman empire never threatened to take over the world or anything similar.

OOC: Long story short, after potential destruction of Europe and everyone's sanity, the Castilians appear to have backed off after the Holy Roman Empire was formed, and that Empire is a combination of the Papal States, Venice, Naples, Aquitaine, and the Franks.

The holy roman empire never threatened to take over the world or anything similar.

All the non-HRE nations think otherwise.
Whether it's true or not, they all are sh****** in their pants.

Here's another view on what happened

Franks: Me :king::king:
Pope: :nono::nono:
Franks: :aargh::aargh:
Pope: :spank::spank:
Franks: :bowdown::bowdown:
Pope: I am :king:
Pope: :band:
HRE: :agree:
Pope: :lol:
Non HRE: :dubious::scared:
Non HRE: :hide:

Temporary fortifications
The Venetians borrowed their construction style from the Romans, although in their military they employed different tactics, especially their fortifications. When the Venetians needed to quickly defend an area of land, they would start by digging a trench 5 to 10 feet deep depending how large the wall was planned to be (larger wall=deeper support trench). Then, the soldiers would cut down local trees 10 or so feet high or bring them in with boats, and put them in place vertically on both sides of the trench. Then, the trench would be filled in with dirt and stones up to five feet from the top with the dirt from the original trench plus two or three trenches plus various holes on the attacker's side. Using ladders to get around, the soldiers would then compact the dirt and stones in the wall, followed by making sure there were slits in the wall te archers could use to fire from. Finally, in each of the trenches and holes on the attacker's side, they would make traps and pitfalls with older trees and sharpened branches, along with making obstructions around the wall. If the enemy manages to reach the wall, the archers will focus their fire and annihilate the enemy. These walls were effective when defending borders or cities, and could be made in days with the right resources, at most 2 months if the resources needed to be shipped in.

In other news, Venice has adopted an official flag, which hangs outside all government and military buildings.

Just because you are frightened because we are stronger doesn't mean we threatened anyone. Leave it to a Muslim to make obvious mistakes.

Ooc: lol that laughing icon is true. Think the star wars emperor. That's my role model.

It is clear to me that I do not have the time to dedicate to what is quickly becoming a functioning, interesting, NES. At best, I hope I have put the Abbasids in such a position that any successor can make use of what I did positively. :(

Ok, that's fine. Sorry to see you go.

Nothing is free in this world. Your merchants will not have preferred status in my cities, and will pay less dues therein.

I... um... think you misunderstood my request. I simply wish for ships under my control to be able to have free access to the Aegean and thus the Mediterranean.

It isn't only the Muslims who are scared.
Keep your enemies close and your friends closer
:backstab:
Fear for the heretics and heathens is good. I hope the Emperor will use such currency well. Luckily for all of you, I, pope Benedict, have no intention for calling crusades or sending more Catholics to war. Peace must reign in my time.
Also, I am keeping my enemies very close ;)
