We have changed our nation's name from Mexico to La República Socialista de Méxica (or Méxica Socialist Republic for short).

Breaking News: Victory against Imperials creates Cultural Renascence

After the Méxica-American forces drove out the imperials an unexpected surge of interest in Precolonial Indigenous Culture and History has occurred. One random citizen was asked about the changes and what they thought caused it.

“I'm certain that defeating foreign powers trying to occupy our nation kind of reminds us of our heritage. Like it has made people think about what it even means to be Méxica.”

This resurgence interest in Precolonial Indigenous Culture and History was initially just a trend within the military. Some military commanders and captains started to wear a Maquahuitl along with a scabbard around their belt. Also members of the military also started to get tattoos depicting Ancient Aztec or Mayan Symbols.

Soon the practice of captains wearing Maquahuitl and scabbard became official military law. It was a way in which one could distinguish their higher rank over regular soldiers.

When soldiers started to come home, this interest in Precolonial Indigenous Culture and History soon spread like a wildfire among the general population. People started giving their children Aztec and Mayan Names instead of names based in Spanish.

It wasn't long before the government itself started to take note of these trends. Raphael Espinoza, being eager to consolidate power and legitimacy among the people even changed the nation's name to República Socialista de Méxica. (Note: Méxica is what the Aztecs called themselves).

People were hired to create outdoor paintings and murals depicting Aztec Mythology and Historical Events. Also larger cities started to create pitz (Mayan Basketball) courts and teams. Many of the newer buildings found to be covering old ruins were destroyed. The ruins were then repaired and retored to be functional again.

This surge of interest has also left the religious community split over these changes. Certain members of clergy were worried about the changes and were afraid it would lead people away from Christ.
“We are heading down a slippery slope and moving away from the teachings of the curch and Jesus himself,” said Archdiocese Emanuel Gonzales.

However, other members of the clergy felt that there wasn't anything wrong with these changes. “As long as people don't lose touch with Christ, I don't see what the problem is with trying to discover one's own heritage,” said Priest Jose Ferdinand. He then continued, “Plus the Spanish might have brought Christianity over to our people but they certainly didn't follow the Bible or Christ's teachings either. So this might provide all of us an opportunity to reflect and improve upon ourselves in ways which we wouldn't be able to do otherwise.”

Oddly enough, the church itself is playing a pivotal role in this cultural resurgence. Many of the schools and universities owned by the church are teaching students how to speak and read Nahuatl. Along with teaching about Aztec Literature and Poetry.

So while there are some people against and scared of this cultural revival, the majority of people don't care or are actively interested in learning about their past. Cultural Minster Alphonso Rodriges said, “We can't blame the people about wanting to learn about their past. Learning about one's heritage is critical in putting events both now and the future in perspective.”
