SLYNES - Swirly Lights Yonder, a Never Ending Story

Thought I'd do a bit of artistic work showing a typical scene in Sahlo.

That rocks. The hive just makes a buzzing sound.... all the damned time.

Weird... I can't upload stuff on Youtube. Does anyone think I could send them the file of the video I made for the Hletho Theme so they could upload it?

So anyway, I finally got those exploration results sent earlier today. I'll continue to accept orders until Tuesday night, and work on the update starting Wednesday.

Thanks Daft! If I were to change a bit I'd zoom out a bit more on the spaceships so the transition didn't cut off the ends.

Guys, this really adds another dimension to the character of these species. I'm going to try to find some very simple music that gives me the feel of the Disopterans.

So, Daft brought up an interesting thing the other day about planetary defenses. Originally, I had thought to leave it simple, with fleets defending space and armies defending the ground. But how could defensive systems be implemented into that? It would be nice to have an alternative to leaving fleets sitting around, but in the end, what would they really be but immobile fleets? So I was thinking that maybe they'd be treated as just that: fleets, but they can't move, and are twice as powerful. It might make space-based warfare a pain, but I think it already will be (somewhat) anyway. I had the idle thought a few weeks ago to give each fleet a set of statistics that could be modified or increase on their own as time went on, but I wasn't sure if that would become too rule-heavy. It might be interesting, though, and it would be an easy way to have space-based planetary defenses. If you built a fleet that had no movement and a higher defense rating, it effectively would be just that. Using this idea, you could alternatively shift your fleet(s) toward more exploratory capabilities and add increased speed for a reduced combat ability. It would be neat, I think, especially if the "stock" fleets were each based on the race that built them, so Hlethan "fleets" would be fast, frail and weaponless, while Geskani fleets would perhaps be slower, but better armed, and Satellian fleets would be slower, light on armaments, but tough as hell. It might be weird to add this in now, but I wouldn't mind if you guys didn't, and of course it needs a lot more fleshing out before it's able to be implemented, if you guys even want it to begin with.

Alternatively, if anyone has any other ideas, let me know!

Also, only two orders so far :( I know I was a little late getting those exploration results out, but that should have only affected a couple of people. I think a lot of the players have dropped out, or are dropping out for the time being, which stinks. So, for a while anyway, it's going to be a Geskani/Hletho/Satellian/NPC-dominated game. I'm keeping my inbox open until about noon EST tomorrow (Wednesday), at which point I'll be starting the update. I also am very much hoping that I can get it done tomorrow, too!

I like the aspect of fleets being different for each race. You could pass it off as fleets becoming more specialised as technology in the galaxy allows for it or something. I'd like to know that a Geskani War Fleet wouldn't be outgunned by the average Hletho fleet, but also that it wouldnt be able to catch up to it.

Also, I apologise for not writing anything lately. I was on a camp for a few days, and have spent the last couple of days finishing off all my schoolwork. I'll try and finish the story soon.

I assume that the frailty is due to the fact that our 'fleets' currently consist of a single vessel, which places all of our vulnerabilities into a single spot.

I am working on a creature now and I hope to have you something before your deadline. Pending work and stuff.

I'm still just trying to figure out how to describe the creature I drew.

3rd eyestalk not drawn to keep image cleaner. Grasping part is only on one side. Body leathery-slug-like but not mucusy. Strong muscles and no large structural parts (bones/exoskeleton), low grav, strong muscles, and maybe some minor cartledge-like structure in certain areas. Dark area under eyes is mouth area.
