[R&F] Small things you have noticed on playing

Has anyone else got an industrial golden age as Korea and taken the heartbeat of steam dedication?

As if the seowon wasn't powerful enough. Add on a production bonus equal to the campus adjacency, plus natural philosophy youve got plus 8 production most likely in the majority of your cities, seems extremely powerful.

Yes, I have done this in my current game. I also have Kilwa Kisiwani and suzerainty over four industrial CS's - one of which is Brussels for the 15% wonder boost. I can build most wonders in 10 turns or less in my capital. :D

Scotland + Ecstatic City + all-Rainforest Hills city + Chitzen Itza + Kilwa Kiswani + 3 Industrial City States + Wonder Policy + IZs + all trade routes originating in the city + 2 Wonder-boosting Great Engineers = 4 Wonders in 5 Turns + 1 very irate Qin Shi Huang.

I can build most wonders in 1 turn if needed with Magnus.

I've been sending Magnus to each newly settled city to play catch up chopping districts/pops rather than keeping him back for wonders though, and it means I can keep pingala set up in my capital to stack his culture/science boost with Korea's LUA

A quick early loyaly write up at Loyalty and taking cities

chopping districts/pops
Chopping pops more important until have have 3 envoys in a district and better chops.... those chops double with magnus for each tech/civic so the longer you wait the more awesome... chopping in a granary before pop may be a good idea but keep an eye on amenities.

Should point cost of next great person always go up when you get current one? I thought yes, but it just happen to me that after buying great scientist (decided to rush since it was close call), next one costs less GP points and after clicking "next turn" and checking great people history there are not one, but two more great scientists grabbed by other nations, so 3 great scientists in total in single turn. I just send it to 2k as bug report but I'm not 100% sure if this is a bug. Never happen to me before but maybe I just didn't noticed.

Also on the topic of noticing small things:
- unit upgrade now is doing upgrade to most recent version of it in single turn even if it's multiple upgrades

1. I dont know if its related to R&F or not but I got and industrial era Indian artifact even though Gandhi got killed in the Classical game era. The new player era vs game era system is a bit screwy. I usually got only ancient era artifacts from land ruins and classical and up from sea stuff so something got changed at least for me.
2. The next turn after you accept an emergency with the liberate city state goal all members that acept go to war with the target without any warmonger penalty for the declaration itself(which makes sense) or for anything else you do to the target. I razed two of his cities and captured the rest after ive liberated Auckland and nobody gave a damn(no warmongering penalty). The free pass to cause mayhem should end after you get the reward at least which was 2 gold for every envoy and 5k or smth :) .
3. Ive also experienced being unable to get a friendship after being aggresive early on even though i had like +35 relation bonuses with only a -2 from different government or smth minor like that.

This might explain why in my game suddenly I was unable to continue my 3 alliances that were on their way to level 3. Before this happen I got a war actually triggered by one of those alliances (ally was attacked), and after this war was finished, I'm unable to get friendships with my former allies, where I have a lot positive bonuses with all of them. I even tried to not get any warmongering in this war. Did not occupy any cities, just fight his units.

It crashes for me all the time on exit since the RF patch (vanilla, dont have the expansion yet). A difference is that it used to freeze sometimes, and now it crashes with a dialog asking me to send report to Firaxis.

Maybe this is in my head, but I noticed the game used to freeze if I quit immediately after saving. I would basically need to save, close the menu, open it, then quit. But that could be in my head.

Anyway, I accidentally clicked Friendship instead of sending a delegation to Gilgamesh and he accepted the turn meeting him. Is this a bug? Because I'm testing things on Prince? Because he's Gilgamesh? It started me and I'll have to make sure I don't do that from now on.

The artefacts were changed 2 patches ago, sounds like you are getting the normal.

I think Gilgabro always does that. Or at least he does for me on King.

So it seems getting the government plaza and ancestral hall early is a strong way to start now. It does cost a district but it’s not expensive and the settler discount and the vitality of getting settler early just seems too hard to ignore.
What about first governor? Amani may seem a sensible option for an early +2 with a CS if you need it.

I like Magnus early...double powered chops in whatever new cities are very impressive. Then I'll usually upgrade Pingala so I can build my campus buildings faster. I haven't tried Liang or Victor or Moksha yet though.

Heartbeat of steam can be quite strong in the right circumstances.

Free cities can build airplanes.

Scottish Communism plus Magnus can turn a mediocre city into a powerhouse.

The best part about being allied with Alexander is that he stops calling you a coward every five turns.

Anybody else having trouble getting anybody to declare friendship with you? I just tried a peaceful korea game and had two other civs at +10 most of the game but could never get them to declare friendship.

It seems for me there might be something hidden that has quite a big impact on whether AI will accept friendship or not. In my first game as Dutch, I had 4 alliances for most part of the game. It reached level 2 alliance with all of them and I was on the way to level 3. It was renewed with all of them multiple times without issues. Suddenly at some point all AI decided that they no longer want friendship with me. It was mentioned in this thread earlier that someone had problem with friendship because of early aggression. In my case it might be something similar, because I had one war (not triggered by me) just before all this started to fall apart. But since you mention you had peaceful game, I assume there might be more triggers like that.

I noticed that if you have only one copy of strategic resource and no encampment in the city, then you can produce previous unit type which didn't need that resource. In cities with encampment you can produce newer bersion of unit type.

Before R&F that was working only if you had no specific strategic resource at all.
