So how is your current game going?

Had a pangea game where ZERO AIs went authority.
It was by far my easiest game on this patch.
Im more and more concerned with authority scaling, a bit as human but even more so in the hands of the AI, something seems off but my samples arent that much so ...

What do you mean - that authority is too strong or too weak?

Authority AI on this patch have been more effective at war.

I was thinking authority in general but AI in particular but next game I get monster progress china and what looks like, the religious pressure bug.

I just finished a joyride game as Authority Assyria on King Standard speed standard size Communitas 2.0 , Raging Barbs, no Events, 4UC.

Finally got the settings to make Communitas working as Continents (no rift, low sea level) but even with strategic balance sometimes Iron and Coal are just too far. With Authority is not a problem going wide but Tradition and Progress struggle a lot.

All AI's but one (Persia) went Tradition, basically a death wish.

Vassalized India early just Austria put up some resistance and managed to banish my Silver and Gold monopoly, sanction me and with Inca took all CS. No matter. Assyrian armies exterminated Austria in early Industrial.

With the fall of Inca capital and Inca as vassal I won a DV in 22 turns about 410 turn. Morocco was under invasion and already lost Fez and Marrakesh. Even with the banning of nuclear weapon I assembled enough artillery and GDR to non stop conquering.

I went full Authority/Fealty (even if found last with leftover beliefs)/Imperialism and Autocracy. Happiness went from 20 % to 44 % max through the whole game and I had like 11 luxuries always in my pocket.

In this patch DV and SV are the way to win on my difficult settings (could win a domination game on Authority but still having hard time with Tradition and Progress). Domination is just too long even on standard map and DV/SV are both is faster. I do not think a scenario to achieve CV.

Now, waiting for the incoming new version, I fired up another game. Same settings as before but with Arabia and added More Wonders from adan_eslavo (0.9 just came out). This one and 4UC add so much flavor that even if balancing will be dreadful I think I'm keeping them on.

Really want to try Tradition so settled on a (very probably) Copper monopoly and discovered 4 CS near me, Germania (Progress), Netherland (Progress), Assyria (Authority) and already plagued from Iron scarcity (2 Iron in half a continent). Built Skara Brae and Pyramids, AI got Karnak, Stonehenge and Kuk. New requirements for Stonehenge tricked me but fine. My fault not reading the new requirements from the More Wonders mod.

The barbs are giving hell to German and Netherland.

I did not encountered any CTD so far, Religious pressure was fine (very weak over water). Very stable version.

My notes are on:

_ Happiness. Still the requirements should be toned down a bit, only wide warmongering is possible at the moment imho. Wide progress is just shooting in the foot.

_ Skirmishers line is still very weak. I need a massive effort to use them, building roads and railroads in advance, tear down forests and Jungle.

_ Mid to late game CS influence are unwinnable. The solution is puppetting them.

I'll add some more notes later.

Just try More Wonders ! It's a masterpiece.

Enjoying a Immortal domi game as Celts standard at epic speed.
Rhiannon is really busted with the right start, cant wait to try out the new morrigan and cennarous pantheon adjustments!
I always think its funny when Russia tries to tie your hands with red tape political trappings by making you promise to not go to war when shes ready for you regardless.
>implying I wasnt gonna eat everyone as well.
Should have enough time to unlock vassalage by the time i move to the inca. then off across the ocean to find where the other 4 are hiding.
Idk if its intended but great generals are honestly just wonder bombs for me right now. I use them when i start building one in the capital and boom 3 turn roman forums on epic speed.

Byzantium One-City Challenge, Immortal, standard.

I accidentally left Terra start on with communitu map, I first thought it would be a disadvantage, then realized we were so packed in a tiny continent that OCC would give me a head start. It also meant I had my salt monopoly within capital borders, no need for mass citadels or statecraft to get one. So I went classic tradition-artistry-rationalism and I'm starting Freedom, aiming CV.

I was surrounded by early founders so I designed a religion suited for OCC but with limited or attritious spreading:
Earth mother (thought I wound found earlier than goddess of beauty but probably a mistake on the long run).
Apostolic tradition, I had a rather production-focused start and needed to grow my only city, and good for religious attrition where cities flip several times.
Divine inheritance, synergy with apostolic holy sites, and just good for OCC.
Mastery and mandirs, again golden age and food.
Prophecy, I first thought I wanted max yields on holy sites. I then thought it was a mistake, as I had limited space to bulb them (and would lose the pantheon on mines) and should have focused on great people enhancers. Now I think it might help to pass world religion.
Inspired works, faith-popping archeologists with so many other things to build, and so much unsettled land is priceless! + moar yields on gpti

I led on science and culture until renaissance, went nuts on wonders (the most essential being porcelain and brandeburg, actually!) and grabbed many ruins in the new land before anyone landed, a real sense of wonder and discovery. Both Ethiopia (for religious rivalry) and Songhai (because Songhai) attacked me, but Songhai couldn't resist and attacked Ethiopia at the same time, meaning I could fend them off both. Once Songhai annexed Ethiopia it was non-stop war, but I managed to hold, as the time of mandelakus was over and the time of cataphracts began. My other powerful neighbor is Indonesia, who doesn't like my insane wonder hoarding but seems to hate Songhai more and adopted my religion, so I walk that very fine line as I can't afford to figth them both. Both of them are now catching up with me as they start colonizing.

I got many new world CS alliances that I didn't expect to maintain, but it was Indonesia who grabbed them, which is an opportunity to pass world religion with his help. I hope to liberate one ethiopian city as buffer, ally, and convert him too. I don't know if I will keep up with the huge empires that are being built. No coal (and no river for slater mill) is going to be rough, as I can't defend any coal city state. Gonna need some very subtle politics to win!

Decided to up my game and play on King difficulty as the Songhai, going for an Authority, warmonger game. Noticably harder than the Warlord I'm used to, but I'm managing thus far. Just over 100 turns in and took my first capital against Hiawatha, who was already starting to get a big lead. I wanted to sort him out sooner rather than later.

Had a few setbacks early on; my scout was cornered and killed by barbarians so my scouting suffered. Hiawatha settled a spot I had my eye on with Akwesasme and the natural wonder, but I took it easily enough in the war. Onandanga was a different matter. He had all the iron, I had spears. He doesn't even need iron for his special unit, which was absolutely destroying my spearmen. Once I took Aswesasme I could get iron hooked up and some swordsmen out, which I then rushed to his capital. He is now (hopefully) out of the game and will only be a minor power from now on. In my last game The Iroqouis became a massive threat; glad I neutered them nice and early here.

Next steps: patch up my economy, spread my religion (Hero worship for faster military units and scholarship to boost my flagging science), modernise my army with swords, composite bows and catapults, then turn my gaze to Shaka...

@salty mud
Why settle Jenne like that? You are competing with a ton of tiles with the capital and miss out on 2 fish (and potentially oils) as well as a coastal city if you settled 1 or 2 tiles south. Only reason I can think is defending from enemy ships?

Yeah, probably not the best spot in hindsight. I was rushing to get some cities out and wanted to take advantage of the river area without noticing the fish as I hadn't then researched fishing. Hopefully not too impactful in the long run, though.

Fish get revealed on pottery though, no? Is your version up to date? I think you just didn't explore the sea there, I like to take my scout for a stroll around the coast to see if there's any sea resources that make locations for good coastal cities

Fun start ye?
You can expect bison on the plains tiles and deer in the forests. I think you should settle west for immediate access to 2 salts and at least one of deer/bison, as well as preserving one farm triangle.

I just started a new Byzantium game and got this start.

Very heavy food start, but also decent production. Very good Tradition start. Makes it a bit hard to pick a pantheon, with so many options. To the north of me is a lot of mountains, but also Netherlands and Austria, so it is heavily contested territory, and I don't want to overly help them by going the mountain pantheon. There was a decent amount of sea resources, but in more distant locations, and I have a few good inland spots.

Also, a super long canal effectively, since I will settle a city on the other side of the lake on either the mine resource or the wheat.

Diplomatic Victory about turn 350 (354 I think I miss 8 turns to Global egemony vote) with my Rome game. King/Frontier/Standard. More wonders/4UC.

I expected an easy game and it was. Maybe i'll post later a couple of screenshots: got an amazing silver monopoly/tundra start not much italian landscape but cannot pass on silver. Game was rock solid stability wise. Next game i'm planning adding more mods: better lakes, EAW and ENW and going for my preferred difficulty: Emperor. Probably will pick another warlike Civ that I love to play (Ottomans) and will put in the game Zulu, Askia and Rome to fight with. Going epic pace and testing the tactical side.

Strategic wise the Authority/Fealty/Imperialism/Autocracy Rome domination is decided on late Classical on Ballistas/Legions power spike. As soon you start expanding and with Colosseums constructed you'll get an increased golden age frequency that boost culture.

As i predicted Diplo victory comes a lot faster than Domination: with 4-5 vassals you have total control of the United Nations. Statecraft AIs change from being a nuisance to powerful and rich vassals to exploit.

Very good version. I noticed an increase in turism, maybe there is a chance to get a CV in this version but I found those kind of game difficult. Map resources play a big role: with few land you could critical miss some vital resources like Iron/Coal and Alluminum.

I like the new tundra pantheon and i thunk it's powerful but i would not even bother playing on a start like this lol.
This particular start gave me an opportunity to test many different things so I took it, will probably post feedback on the relevant threads later. To be fair I would 100% reroll the start if I missed the pantheon (but can't miss the pantheon as Theodora) It ended up carrying my early game HARD.
Spoiler early pantheon yields :

In Industrial I am starting to feel the restrictions but I'm running a really decentralised state so I hope that Industry Order will come online.
The plan was to run Sacred Sites with 3 religious buildings + Fealty on extreme wide game. And starting on tundra gave me a lot of space, the civs on the populated continent on the other hand are close together. Immortal difficulty is making it hard and I don't know if I'll be able to win, 5 city Pedro on his own continent doing his thing is BRUTAL.
Spoiler Late Renaissance :

MANY more cities are coming now that I got spare happiness

You were right about the camps, this is why on these kinds of starts I like to get trapping first, with consideration on my early tech progression, of course. I did not consider moving my settler at all, although it seems like a decent option with what you see there. But I am personally very reluctant to move settlers, firstly because losing turns can be very bad in this difficulty, and, also, you run a risk of settling on resources such as the iron here (I don't think you ever get resource spawns on your starting tile). In retrospect there was no reason to move here.

I just started a new Byzantium game and got this start.

And found a Mongolia to the south of me. Who despite having nobody to fight or conquer, got ahead of me in tech, despite building a carpet of ships and units. Fighting Black Tugs (Knights) with Spearman is just a nope.

It's my main complaint with AI tech progress.

Against Progress and Tradition AIs as Authority you need to play disruptive and dirty from Ancient era: snipe a worker, pillage a tile, steal a trading route, anything that can delay them. Try to found on chokepoint and deny them land.

With Rome I'll pick their workers early on but when I got at least 2 Ballistae and 2 Legions along with archers (composite maybe) and spearmen 2/3 turns before Courthouses I'm declaring to take a satellite city (not a capital).

With Authority you need just a break event: one vassal. Even with only 2 cities. If you find yourself 8 or more tech behind the median (not the runaway) by early industrial it's time to restart: their chain DPs will lock you down.
