So you want to see gameplay, huh?

The more Elizabeth flirts, or should I say allows it, the better the sales! We all know how men think! I'd just like to thank her for blessing us with her time. Hint hint free deluxe edition please!

While you were busy with the fly, Monty casually walks in and took all the beers from the fridge.:mischief:
I hope the A.I. is more opportunistic.

Please, I've seen that guy's Civ5 animation. He doesn't casually do anything :p

I know I for one would buy the game a lot sooner if I heard more of Elizabeth's voice [as she gave a definitive answer as to whether or not Babylon will ever be available to people who buy the standard version] >.>

But seriously, she's a class act and I'm sure the guys trying to flirt with her still respect the work she does.

Of course I repect all the work she has done. That is why I waited so long to have fun. Wasn't the proper time. Thought it was time to have some fun now. ;)

I missed it, what is that definitive answer on Babylon?

^There wasn't one. that's why I said I'd buy sooner if I were to hear... Because I'm not buying the game until I get that answer.

You said "as she gave a definitive answer as to whether or not Babylon will ever be available to people who buy the standard version" which does actually mean "because she gave a definitive answer as to whether or not Babylon will ever be available to people who buy the standard version" which, well, it means she already answered it.

But I can see how you meant to say the other thing. :)

would buy, if I heard her voice as she gave an answer. I think that's clear enough, but we can agree to disagree.

EDIT: I think I see where you got that though, my brackets probably made that part look more separate than it should. I didn't mean for that to make it separate, just to show it was kinda under my breath >.>

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Elizabeth is cool.

I see. Well then, Elizabeth, will Babylon be available for purchase separate from the deluxe edition?

The fact that they are so secretive about DLCs worries me too.

You probably will not get an official answer due to legal constraints on the "exclusive" distribution for Babylon. In all likelihood after a month, maybe more, the exclusive period will expire on all the pre-order DLC and it will go on sale for everyone.

Ah, good clarification.

One reason it was confusing (aside from the brackets) is you used the past tense when I think the future subjunctive would be correct. E.g.:

I know I for one would buy the game a lot sooner if I were to hear more of Elizabeth's voice [as she gives a definitive answer as to whether or not Babylon will ever be available to people who buy the standard version]

Replacing "as" with "while" would also clear things up.

;)

This. I don't think they can answer for now. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't made available within 3 months of release though (That's been the case with other steam games with pre-order DLC).

Back on topic:

I'm pretty sure if Babylon was exclusive to the CE they would announce that. That would get more people to buy the CE, right?

On the other hand, if it will be available later, they have incentive to not tell us yet, so we buy the CE. Of course it might be several months for this.

If they told you that you can get Babylon a few weeks after release, would you by the deluxe edition with that civ in it now or wait till the DLC becomes available? If you wait and buy the DLC instead, then D2D or whoever is selling the deluxe ed. lost a potential customer. The distribution partner with that edition probably doesn't want 2k to say that it will be available later.

I think no mention of DLC is because if they ever mention a DLC, then the next question is, How much, then the next question is, when it will be released, then the next question will be, why so soon? Why so later?

So the best way is not to mentionn it at all so there is no need to answer further questions.

we already know all the map pack's cradle of civilization, which are exclusive depending where you pre-order from, can all be brought as DLC at a later date, its fairly safe to assume the same will be true with the bablyon Civ. If not because of this precendent then because doing so will generate extra revenue.

Well I think we will know about dlc by Tuesday. Once the preorder bonuses are gone I think those map packs will be up for sale the same day. If they continue to sell the deluxe edition for a while longer, then Babylon will have to wait for some. I still can't ever imagine they won't be selling it standalone though, or maybe combined with something else as a deal.

Just so I'm sure we're on the same page here -- all this excitement about Babylon is about something that, if I still can read, costs exactly five (in numbers: 5) euros more on Steam?

Let's put this into perspective. I pay more every time I go to McDonald's. I've had parking fees that are higher. The crazy people at the movie theatre want me to pay 12 euros for Resident Evil (still not sure about that; I hate 3D anyway). This is a game that, if the first four incarnations are any guide, I'll be playing hundreds and hundreds of hours of -- I wouldn't surprised at all if I've clocked over 1,000 with Civ IV alone. Five euros spread out per hour of gameplay is simply irrelevant. In fact, I'll probably save money because if it keeps me sitting at my desk, I won't go to certain places until it is really, really bad and will therefore have a lower water bill. My mobile phone bill will drop. I'll try to remember to shower :) ...

Back to the OP: Thanks again to 2K Elizabeth and the crew, you did great work. Coming out and playing the game for two hours live was an impressive marketing strategy that demonstrated supreme confidence in the product -- if this game had been trash (little chance of that, of course), you would have killed sales dead right then and there. I have since pre-ordered, yes, the Babylon version.

Of course, we're going to expect this from every game from now on. The rest of the industry is going to hate you :).
