Could Internet be considered a place of social interaction?

It can, for sure. But dont you interact socially with people all day, without touching them? How about your friends when youre hanging out, you guys touch alot?:hmm:

No. Social interaction is the ability to touch, tone of voice, facial expression, stance, eyes etc.. A combination, which I lazily label as touch.

Yes and No

Yes because it's SORTA like a social interaction.
No because it is not exactly a social interaction and it lacks that smthing that you get from social interactions.

It's still intresting to talk with ppl from far far away on teh internetz. :)

No kidding! It still trips me out that I can talk with people from wherever on earth.

In turn, it must trip all of you out that you can talk with someone from Oregon. "Oregon, where the hell is that?"

...

To the OP,

I'd take up the sport. Or at least find one that you'd like better. Sports are a schweet way to meet people, in addition to getting in good shape and working off the stresses of the day.

If you don't like athletics, maybe you could follow in the steps of one of these dudes!

Yes, the internet is social interaction. But you need a lot less social skills for it. Consequently, it's not really going to help you get real friends later in life.

You're dad's right: it's important to have real friends who are your age.

The point was than I'm an athlete, yet I'm not an idiot.

What qualifies someone as an athlete?

Then I would think almost everyone his age is an athlete.

Well for the purpose of school kids it would be someone who partakes in sports outside the confines of PE class.

So communication by telephone is not social interaction?

Definitely not. There is no substitute for talking to someone standing infront of you. That is what I believe is social interaction.

The internet is not really a place of social interaction. Even though you talk to others online you generally dont make friends with them or talk with them the same way you would socialize in real life.

So i wouldnt even count it as experience.

I can't make friends because I don't want to.

Socializing, however, can be done easily and painfree on the internet.
