We spend lots of time talking about individual and world problems, but rarely spend any time on solutions beyond general political ones that are not specific or likely.

I'd like to encourage more detailed solutions to any type of problem you see. We saw nice solutions to ant problems.

What problems do you see in your life, city or nation that deserve a more detailed solution?

What are possible solutions to the Israeli Palestinian situation? Are there ideas that are more than "one state" or "shutter Israel for good".

Can homelessness be reduced? How would you do it?

How about college tuition for those in debt now and those who want to attend in the future?

Weeds in your garden?

Moderator Action: Take any possible solutions to the Middle East conflict to the quarantine thread, please. Thank you. ~ Arakhor

I had slugs eating my tomatoes so I got some slug bait and that seems to have fixed it.

Actually I do have kind of a problem/maybe not so much. You know how every condiment you eat like ketchup, jam, queso, salad dressing, mayo, tomato sauce, anything that comes in a jar or can, it always has some residue stuck to the container that you just can't use? Like you can scrap out your mayo or peanut butter jar as much as possible but that's a giant pita, plus you probably can't get it 100%, and forget about ketchup or ranch bottles which have a tiny opening. So what do you do? Just toss it? Seems wasteful. Have you ever wondered how much the average person throws away in condiments just stuck to the containers in their lifetime? I totally have. On more than one occasion. Is there some bottle design we could switch to to eliminate this waste?

Containers like toothpaste that you can press, squeeze, and roll up until it's all gone.

Not sure peanut butter can be 'squeezed out' as easily as ketchup and mustard...

Won't work for those who like 'chunky' peanut butter. Edit: well I suppose it might if the opening was large enough.

The brand of ketchup I use, The bottles are fine (if you have patience). Its a flat cap so just leave it upside down and let gravity do the work. Those pointy caps on the mustard, however.....

I have solutions to all kinds of problems. Of course most of my solutions are usually panned as "morally bankrupt" and "crimes against humanity". Whatever those are supposed to mean...

Well, the big problem with peanut butter is that I cannot fit my hand into the jar. If there was some type vertical seam that I could tear it open, I could then wipe my bread along it to clean it out.

My brother taught me to put clean spaghetti into the sauce jar and swirl it around before pulling out the spaghetti to use with the meal. That cleans the jar some.

How about hormones in the water because of birth control?

The ants are back though....googling new strategies now. They have also found a way into my bathroom as well.

Does no one else use a spatula to get the last bit of peanut butter out of the jar? Also, peanut butter residue and similar residues pose a huge problem to recycling. China had facilities capable of cleaning the stuff out but now that they have stopped accepting American plastics, this means your local recycler is almost certainly throwing everything plastic away right now. American recycling is currently in crisis.

Have a problem with mice? Plug any holes you can find with soap-covered steel wool pads, the ones you'd normally use for scrubbing pots n' pans. A common brand name in the US is "S.O.S."

"I don't like the solutions people offer so they don't count"

Before you go on a trip, get a free, webmail email address, if you don't have one already. Yahoo or gmail, or whatever. Scan all of your documents, IDs, passport, credit cards, and emergency phone numbers (including the customer service numbers for your credit cards and bank cards) to .pdfs and save them to the "draft" folder in that address. If you lose your passport or your phone, or stuff gets stolen, you can look up the information from any computer in the world. Except North Korea. North Korea is the only country in the world that's not on the Web. Don't go to North Korea.

Why not use your usual email address?

Solution to everything. Put compassion first. Then logic. The planet is already wealthy enough to pull this off. Try not to move too fast. Except on climate control, when your house is burning you don't wait for action.

Just keep using your borax solution. You have a whole community to kill. Rome wasn't built or destroyed in a day. :)
