Ok I'm making a new mod/scenario and I need help to find some UU's for the following civs. The time period is ca. 800-1800.

Pagan - Kywan Worker
Pegu - Elite Musketman (need to find a better name)
Khmer - Pha'ak Man
Siam - Ayutthaya Soldier (could use a better name too)
Chiang Mai(Lanna)
Laos
Vietnam - Au Lac
Champa

I have all the city lists, leaders etc. worked out, but I can't really find any good UU's, except maybe the Pha'ak man for the Khmer and some sort of Pikeman/Spearman for Siam.

None of the SE Asian entities are really military powerhouses - so you might want to go with non-military UUs...

For the Vietnamese, probably some kind of guerilla medieval infantry (quick movement, light infantry) - they're very good at it (just ask the Chinese :ack: ).

Off the bat I can think of only 2 bad ass military units for the region:

Vietnam's dreaded Black Pajamas (that's what the Americans called then during the Vietnam War) - lightly armed, very fast guerillas that strike where you least expect them to, and then dissolve seamlessly into the civilian population when you turn around and look for them. :D These guys are so fanatical they'd strap themselves to trees to hold up the enemy while the rest of their buddies flee with the cargo.

Muslim Philippine's (the south) own Juramentado - basically a semi-naked drugged up swordsman with cloth bindings on strategic parts of his body (including his nuts) limiting circulation. Able to withstand multiple gun and arrow wounds and still get to close and engage in melee combat. Only after extreme loss of blood will this guy go down, and by the time it happens the other side probably lost several men already. The .45 automatic pistol was developed partly to counter this guy. It's powerful enough to knock a juramentado down, and this guy's weakness is that once he's knocked off his feet, he can't get up again!

Unfortunately the time periods these 2 existed were not "golden ages" for their respective civs. The ones with a golden age - Khmer, Siam, Pagan, etc. were using mainly spearmen class, swordsmen class, and some war elephants. The terrain was too uneven and jungle for cavalry, and the climate too hot for heavy armor. In fact the most they used was a sort of rattan armor.

Ok I've got some units for Vietnam and and Pagan, but still need for the other civs too.

Dann- the time period is from 800-1800;)

No ideas for Siam/Laos/Khmer etc.?

Ancient Southeast Asians did not leave too many records behind. Our understanding of them is very limited and archaeologists are still piecing together new information all the time. Not much information can be found for their military units I'm afraid. :(

I did find something however after sifting through Encarta. Apparently the Toungoo kingdom in 17th century Myanmar had elite units armed with Portuguese guns. :)

Thanks then I could use some sort of "Elite Musketman" type unit for Pegu:D
