SonIOT I: For All the Marbles

Alright, that makes sense.

I don't suppose that the Panama and Suez are actual canals that could be used for trade just yet? But as something of note, the ancient Egyptians did have a sorta canal between the Nile and Red Sea.

Panama? No. Suez? I'm allowing trade routes up to moderate through it so that'd help a bit for nations who sign a trade agreement but are across the Suez from one another.

Is there anyone I can trade with?

A quick look at wikipedia has told me the Thames empties into a sea body. So, I think I can stretch out a trade route between you, the Basque, and Wertania next turn (but not Wertania to Basque).

The Bering Tribe

20 LP to improve København
8 LP to improve Sitka (Hmm... Apperently I forgot to name it in the edit :P, rename possible? Or should I just live with that name? :P)

Great, could I rename Sitka to Aarhus? :D

Sonereal's World Report I

Preface

The commentary I put in each update does little to connect the dots to look at the overarching situation. Since I just took this little class called International Relationships last year, I've grown to love the giant PDFs I would have to find and research for a debate. I figure I'd do a report based on the orders and RP in this thread only (PMs and chat would naturally not count since an observer wouldn't really have access to that information). Because of this, the look isn't fully complete but I hope it's detailed and interesting for the information maniacs out there (like me).

This report will be divided into several sections.

Economic
This section will detail the domestic economic growth or decline since each culture was created.

Political
This section will detail the political makeup of each nation. Given how young civilization is still, this section will be very small.

Foreign Relations and Military
This section will detail each culture's relationships with other cultures. This will also give a quick overview over military strength.

Science and Technology
This will detail and scientific growth cultures have had since the beginning of civilization, though it may still be too early for this section to matter.

Ongoing Issues
This section will go into detail over current and possible flashpoints across the globe that may result in military conflict.
---------
Economic

Spoiler :
At the dawn of civilization, most people farmed or hunt. This all changed when several of the world's first cities were created. For the first time, populations started to urbanize, some quicker than others. On the other side of the coin, more cultures attempted to grow more food or simply grow countryside economies to increase economic power.

The State of Iraf
The State of Iraf was one of many civilizations founded near the dawn of civilization. Iraf is also one of the civilizations that turned to the countryside for the answers. Because of this, Iraf ties with the British for having the strongest countryside economy on earth. Recently, the State of Iraf created a city on the Persian Gulf called Iraf and established minor trade with the Somaliland Empire.

United Federation of Snapir
Snapir is another of the first civilizations and also one of the first to create a city (Wertania). Tellingly, Snapir has a slightly below-average economy compared to the rest of the world. Nonetheless, Wertania is one of the world's most productive cities and trade with London may soon pull Snapir to head of the pack.

Holy Tribe of Israel
Israel is another of the first civilizations and first to create a city. Jerusalem today is the world's wealthiest cities, having recently stolen the title from a Bering city. Jerusalem's local economy combined with the amount of money it brings in through trade totals 21 LPs, making this single city as powerful as the entire Somaliland Empire economy. Israel itself has the world's most powerful economy and trades extensively with the Targaryen cities of Dragonstone and King's Landing.

The Kasanazi Culture
The Kasanazi Culture boasts the strongest economy is the Far East. Though it founded it's capital city later than Huaxia, the city is also the wealthiest in the region. Okasina performs minor trade with Shou Qiu.

The Bering Tribe
The Bering Tribe ties with Israel in terms of city production and wealth on paper. København was once the world's wealthiest cities until recently. Kobenhavn and Aarhus tie Jerusalem in city worth but fall far behind in terms of trade due to outside trade partners.

Huaxia

Huaxia started off promising economically. Shou Qiu was established with the stated goal of being a rich, beautiful city. However, several wars to expand Huaxia's borders has drained the treasury of what is needed to expand Shou Qiu and the countryside. Recently, Huaxia's Emperor established a new agriculture improvement program in the countryside. Still, Huaxia's economy is slightly behind its militaristic neighbor across the sea.

British
The British tie Iraf in terms of countryside economy and city wealth, only falling slightly behind due to the lack of trade partners for London. However, traders are starting to arrive from Wertania and Bilbo so this problem may soon correct itself.

Targaryen Empire
Targaryen and Bering are the only two cultures on the planet with two cities. Dragonstone, King's Landing, and Jerusalem are all part of a powerful trade network in the Easter Mediterranean. Thanks to two points of the three point triangle being Targaryen has the largest trade empire on earth, followed closely by Jerusalem.

Euskaldunak
Euskaldunak has a slightly above-average economy and one city, Bilbo.

Colombo
Colombo has a below average economy, no cities, and no possible trade partners at the moment. Still, this is alleviated by the lack of potential invaders nearby.

Cherokee

The Cherokee are the newest civilization to rise and has the weakest economy in the world. However, with five free expansion and ten LP, it may be able to quickly catch up with the others with the right investments.

Somaliland Empire

Somaliland is ranked with Huaxia and Snapir and has one city which trade with Iraf.

Angolan Tribe
Another late-comer with a Snapir-strength economy and one city.

Mauryan Dynasty

Same as the above only that it's city may soon start trading with Iraf and Berbera which would create a new trade network.

---------
Political

Spoiler :
Politically, most of the cultures are tribal. As such, the only cultures listed here will be ones of note.

The Kasanazi Culture
Kyroke, the chieftain of the Hakisho on the Nagora Islands unified the Kasanazi after surviving a mortal blow and coming back, claiming he was divine. From his position of power, he founded the fortress city of Okasina on Tegota (island south of Nagora) and quickly brought several more tribes under his rule. One of the tribes, the Renato, fled to the Kotana Peninsula.

Huaxia
Huaxia is undeniably the first culture to be organized and centralized around a single ruler, the Yellow Emperor. Like the Kasanazi later, Huaxia greatly expanded their territorial empire across China and has the largest empire on the planet so far. Shou Qiu is the earliest city to act as an administration center.

Euskaldunak
Euskaldunak looks largely decentralized and very tribal but Bilbo is acting as a limited administration center for the entire tribe so who knows?

The Angolan Tribe

Unlike some of the other tribes, the Angolan Tribe looks as if it will be centralizing slowly, but peacefully.

Targaryen Empire
King Aegon rules Targaryen and this is all that needs to be said. Targaryen follows closely behind Huaxia in terms of power centralization. Recently, the threat of barbarians raiding King's Landing has prompted the government to expand its territory in northern Egypt.

---------
Foreign Relations and Military

Spoiler :
Before the rise of cities, manpower was the sole determinant in who had the strongest military. With the rise of cities and expendable populations from those cities, having the most powerful cities also doubles as having the most powerful military. While manpower and military power can be derived from the countryside for a short while, cultures must be careful in not draining the countryside's manpower and worth faster than it can be repaired.

This section will contain notable foreign relations and then a military summary of notables.

The Holy Tribe of Israel and the Targaryen Empire
Israel and Targaryen have strong trade ties. Recently, the two have agreed that the Targaryen Empire has rights over Egypt.

Military Summaries

The State of Iraf
Iraf is relatively isolated and most of the population is focused in the countryside. Militarily, it isn't special but it doesn't need to be for now.

United Federation Snapir

Snapir is vastly stronger than many other cultures militarily but there has been little need to use the full-blunt of the military against anyone yet. Not in least because of the lack of neighbors.

The Holy Tribe of Israel

The Holy Tribe of Israel ties with Bering for most powerful military. However, whether it would want to go to war is a different question. The Targaryens and Israel are close neighbors and going to war with Targaryen would see Israel lose 20% of it's economic worth overnight, proving that trade is becoming a larger geopolitical concern in the world.

The Kasanazi Culture

The Kasanazi have an experienced military borne from years of warfare on Nagora. (See Ongoing Issues for More)

Bering Tribe
Powerful military, little ways to use it. That's a good thing though, right?

Huaxia
Huaxia has the most experienced military on the planet, having seen several campaigns to bring large swathes of China under its rule. Regionally, it's weaker than the Kasanazis and much of the rest of the world's for good reason. The campaigns were against disorganized tribes, not actual civilizations.

British
The British have one of the weakest militaries but its isolated position means this isn't a problem.

Targaryen Empire
The Targaryen Empire has the third most powerful military in the world and trades extensively when the culture that ties for first.

Euskaldunak
Another weak military but this one is the most bloodthirsty in early civilization, having depopulated a part of North Africa in a war.

Colombo and Cherokee
Most of Colombo and the Cherokee's military would have to be drawn from the countryside in a times of crisis, limiting their effectiveness.

Somaliland Empire, Mauryan Dynasty, Angolan Tribe

Small militaries.

Science and Technology

Spoiler :
Everyone is in the Stone Age and hasn't funded any LPs towards advancement.

---------
Ongoing/International Issues

Spoiler :
Far East Tension
The two major powers of the Far East, the Kasanazi and Huaxia, are militaristic powers which view each other with distrust of the other.

Marokon Genocide Crisis

Euskaldunak's genocide against the Marokon's is pushing thousands of Marokon's out of their native lands to lands to the east. What this means is unknown for the time being.

OOC: The House of Maurya rules the Maurya dynasty. It's an imperial system, with an all powerful Emperor.

Jerusalem was a shining gem of the world, one place that showed the might of the Tribes of Israel. But, that made it treasured by the nomads, and the raiders of the desert. They launched frequent raids, but even though the tribes of Israel had one of the largest militarises in the world, without unification they could not work together to defend Israel as a whole. Several representatives from various tribes met in Jerusalem, to discuss how the tribes could one day unite. They decided, after long talks, that they shall establish the Kingdom of Israel, to serve under God himself. They elected a man by the name of Saul as the first King.

King Saul

The Maurya Dynasty has grown much over the years. The most noble Emperor, Chandragupta Maurya, leads his people to greatness. Strength through Unity. Unity is the Empire. This is his personal motto he leads his people by. All the way from the highest levels and lowest levels of society. Every man has a part to make the Empire strong.

King Saul was appointed by Samuel the first king of Israel, and the voice of God on Earth. He chose a man by the name of David as his heir, and gave him command of Israel's armies. Using those men, he annexed minor tribes around them, bringing them in the Kingdom. The Philistines, men who occupied Northern Arabia bordering Israel declared war on the Israelis. David marched down to fight them, in what would go down in history, as David versus Goliath.

David, a small man in his twenties arrived at the Philistine camp at the border. They knew he was coming, and the commander of them, Goliath issued a challenged to David, a duel. Goliath was a giant, around 7 feet, taller than any man in the Israeli or Philistine armies. They were to fight in front of their armies, to show who is the strongest. Goliath rushed at David with his spear, intending to end this quickly. David took his sling, and struck a rock against the giant's head, the giant falling down flat. He raised his sword to the giant's neck and said “This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down, and cut off your head; and I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that God saves not with sword and spear; for the battle is God’s, and he will give you into our hand." and then cut off Goliath's head. Stunned at their leader's death the soldiers turn and ran.

Trade Routes Opening this Turn

Bilbo->London
Wertania->London

Targaryen and Israel with Iraf, Somalia, and India.

Suez Note

The Suez is open to a limited degree. Trade routes through it can only be Minor (overland routes have no such problems but no one connects that way yet). Militarily, you can only move 10 LPs through it at a time for attacks.

10 LP into increasing London's LP
20 LP into devloping London into a trade center along the Bilbo-London-Wartania Route

Euskaldunak villagers fled in sheer panic. A foreign ship had been sighted off Bilbo. Bands of Euskaldunak warriors prepared to fight the invaders.

When the foreigners landed, they were about to be attacked until it was discovered they were only very lightly armed. They had evidently to trade.

A Euskaldunak axe was traded for some fish, before the boat was forced to depart.

This frightened many, who had wanted to sink the boats and kill their crews, as they were clearly not Euskaldunak.
